Well here's how the story goes, I went over to China for a 10 day study exchange trip and left the laptop on ever since I set it up. When I came back to Singapore, I realized the battery wasn't charging anymore and was stuck at 53% (plugged in, not charging). I then shut down the laptop and tried to boot it with out the AC plugged in and it just simply didn't boot. Few days later I decided to contact Alienware Tech Support on Twitter and followed their instructions to remove the bottom panel, unplug the battery from the mobo, press and hold the power button for a min, put it all back and try to boot it. However when I tired to do so after pressing F1 to continue pass the your battery has experienced permanent failure screen, it then tells me that I have no bootable devices. Any help?

I apologise for sounding stupid but how do I do that? Is that in the BIOS?

Ya, I was just going to say that. Interesting that this keeps happening. Its not the power system its the "bandaid" hybrid bios.

Did you use it on battery often?

But the other symptoms though seems like there are more issues.

Not really, I use it plugged in most of the time. I remember the settings saying it's on desktop mode or something, can't remember the exact words.

Im seeing a pattern here with the 17R2 and 15R1. It seems about 12 - 15 months the batteries are failing.
One can assume its the hybrid bios as its uses the battery for extra power current. The interesting thing is that its happening even on systems with the 240w PSU.
One would think that it shouldnt use the battery if it has enough power but perhaps designing a BIOS to do this is not exactly a perfect science.
I know that I have my boss and my mom who has had an Alienware 14 for 3 or 4 years now and they have the same battery and they use the systems every day and leave it plugged in often.
All of my previous AW systems battery would last like 3 - 5 years before it degraded to the point of needing a new one.
Too many failures to be coincidental.

Well I have no clue on what to do now tbh, my warranty is over and I'm a full time student. This laptop is my only PC that I use for almost everything.

I havent seen a lot fail yet? The problem seems the combination of large amount of cycles and quick charging enabled. Quick charging should not cut the battery life that fast. But it seems that it does.

I've tried it, doesn't work. The laptop still says no bootable devices. And I've also tried reinserting the ssd on all 4 slots. Could the laptop have killed the ssd?

Warranty is probably over for my laptop unfortunately, however I did see something interesting. When I press F5 for onboard diagnostics it does show me the OS drive but it doesn't in the BIOS.
