I'm sorry if this has been posted and/or discussed elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the release of the GTX 1080 with the AW 17. I read somewhere that it's supposed to come out today (November 19) but I don't see any signs of it anywhere.
Thanks!

You can configure it with the 1080 now, but it keeps on giving me a compatibility error for the CPU.
If I select the1080 gpu it tells me it is incompatible with the 6700hq CPU and there are no options to change the CPU to a 6820hk -
No option to configure on my end, perhaps I'm not on the right page? But glad to see we might be finally getting our beast!

Just ordered mine! Hopefully no issues with it!

Congratz! That's a heck of a beast!
I am really contemplating whether to return mine(1070) and get the 1080 instead and it will be cheaper but the 1440p screen really worries me. Besides the fact that my 4k screen is perfect with little to no light bleed. Hmmm....... -
What was the damage if you don't mind me asking? What was the out of the door price?
-
I got it for about $2,813 (tax included). That's after a student discount and not including the 10% back that you get in a Dell gift card. The unit price, with the discount, was $2,637.17 and I will receive a gift card for $263.
@SWADE8800: Do you think I should get the 4k panel, instead? I just really wanted g-sync and 120Hzdaveh98 likes this. -
Nice, that's about what I got discount wise as well. My system price was cheaper with taxes but I didn't get as much ram and SDD space and went barebones in that area and will upgrade or swap from another system I have. I think these are good deals given it's such new technology. Maybe prices go a bit lower by Black Friday but maybe they don't. I think after BF, the deals will be harder to come by and people will have to wait for the big coupons and I don't like playing that waiting game
As for the 4K screen, I wouldn't change for it. I have read about people's issue with the screen but it appears to be hit or miss and after watching some youtubers, it appears that many aren't affected by the issue as it's almost impossible to notice. The 4K screen has benefits and many of them are better in the here and now but not tomorrow. On these type of screens, when you change a resolution to scale a more demanding game, you will sacrifice a lot of image quality. I think a single 1080 is just not sufficient to power many games at the right FPS. I think the 1440p screen is the perfect compromise but then again I am biased as it's the screen I chose to go with! Congrats on your purchase; hopefully we get our systems quickly!stefan1126- likes this. -
Unfortunately right now you can not get the 1080 equipped with 4k. So I bit the bullet and settled with the 1440p. Paying $2500 after discount is such a good deal that I couldn't pass. Will be returning my 1070 that I actually paid more for.
4k- Better color, sharper image, better viewing angle.
1440p- 120hz, faster refresh rate, but the color is not as good and the main issue is the gray banding issues that people are seeing. My eyes are picky so I hope this won't be an issue.stefan1126- likes this. -
Congrats what are your new final specs? I think you made the right decision going with the new 1080 at 1440p. I have a discerning eye and have had NUMEROUS screen related issues with AW over the years. Ironically I learned to live with some level of unhappiness awhile ago as each screen was so bad I had to settle with the best of the bad so to speak. I had my whole system replaced early this year and it came with the best screen I had with zero pixels and practically no screen bleeding. My PLAN, is to not overly research the monitor issue unless my eye really does find issue with the gray banding. We will see. Congrats again!SUADE8880 likes this.

Thank you!! I have to learn to live that nothing is perfect
. As long that nothing is a glaring issue then don't go out of your way to find it.

Has anyone's order shipped yet? I placed mine the day the 1080 was released with a delivery estimate of today, but it hasn't even shipped yet. :/
-
Mine hasn't either. I did call Dell and they said a huge batch is being shipped out tomorrow for a delivery before Dec.1st. And also mentioned that they no longer have the 1080 in stock.stefan1126- likes this.
-
I called in and she told me December 1 at the latest, too. She said mine was already shipped out, but I don't know if she was confused because there's no tracking number anywhere.
-
Very frustrating. I ordered 11/21 with a delivery date of today and I just ask how can they not have any in stock when no one on this forum has even gotten their system? Did they not even have the cards when they took the orders?
-
I think what they meant was that their intinitial batch of 1080 stock has already been fulfilled. That batch will be distributing out starting tomorrow. They don't have any left to be sold for new orders hence the website no longer list it. I'm pretty sure you will get yours since you placed the order on the 21st which was the same time I did.Last edited: Nov 29, 2016MogRules likes this.

The order page is working again and it still shows no tracking information... Has yours shipped yet @SUADE8880?
-
Mine has not yet but I won't know until tonight when they update with tracking. Whats really concerning me now is that my order status went from "custom built complete" back to "confirmed". Has anyone having the same issue?
-
Can you explain why the US order status page only has confirmed/shipped/delivered? The international pages also include pre-production and production statuses. It doesn't make sense that the US doesn't have these.
-
That's all I get... And @Maineiac12, the US page used to have all that info, it seems they decided to downgrade it, for some reason...
Edit: I also get this:

I don't have any of that yet, just confirmed. My EDD is 12/1 and I'm assuming this means it will be late. It was estimated to be 5-7 days when I ordered on 11/23 but if you order today the estimate is now 15-17 days so they're probably running low on parts now.
-
I messaged dell earlier about mine to get an idea of when its shipping. My order date was 11/24 and it says confirmed with custom item complete on my order page. Along with my estimated arrival date being 12/1.
According to dell though its still in production and they have my arrival date being the 6th. So ive given up hope of it showing up on the 1st now which sucks because i really wanted to play around with it this weekend. -
You guys can stop holding your breath. We won't get ours until next week now if we are lucky
-
Mine got updated to 12/5/2016... Starting to get rather upset... :/
-
Heh...low on parts? I'd understand that if people were getting these systems and posting all over the forums from the US. I haven't heard of one single order getting into anyone's hands. They had no parts and took orders ASAP and used the "Holiday Frenzy" of buying and thinking it's a crazy deal and time of year to buy to get many people to order. Whatever, I'm in no rush but don't like their lack of transparency.Neal0790 and andyman404 like this.

Hey you guys I'm new here and I just bought one as well. I purchased mine on the 25th and it saying estimated delivery between 11/30 and 12/7. But im kinda like you guys wondering if they posted them up for sale based on projected arrival of parts. Hmmm...
-
I agree they used black friday as a way to sell them. I honestly understand them doing it, since it makes sense from a buisness standpoint. The only problem i have with it, is they should have informed buyers they werent shipping out till later on the product page before they ordered. At the very least they should have sent out a email a few days ago saying they were delayed. The lack of communication just aggravates me a bit because there really is no need for it. I shouldnt have to message chat to figure out where my $3K order is. They should be keeping there customers wll informed the whole time.Johnni3 likes this.

I completely agree... I'm very frustrated...
If anyone's order ships, could you update us? I'll be sure to update you all when mine ships. By the way, I ordered mine on the 21st and my delivery estimate is for 12/5, for now... -
One of the reps said that mine will ship on the 5th as well. But the weird thing is I ordered mine on the 25th. If these ship dates are accurate then it is definitely parts availability that is the hold up I would think. I cound be wrong though.

There is one guy in the other thread that has one that has shipped

My Alienware 17 R4 with Nvidia GTX1080 just shipped as well. I ordered on Nov 21st within the first 3 hours of it being available. According to FedEx tracking, it will be delivered on Friday Dec 2. It shipped from Hawthorne, California.
Edit: The shipping weight, according to Fedex, was only 11 lbs / 4.99 kgs. I remember reading that someone's was 18 lbs though.
I'm just cringing at what kind of birth defects this big baby will come with. Unfortunately, my Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste and Fujipoly pads won't arrive until next next week though. -
If you guys got fujipoly pads which ones did u order? Extreme or ultra extreme? Or if other pads which ones? I don't know a whole lot so please excuse if I sound like noob becuase I am
-
Ya, mine is showing as 18 lbs, and its coming from Tennessee. Are you sure that is not something else? ;phmscott likes this.
-
Yeah I sure hope they didn't mess my order up. 11 lbs looked too light to me, especially considering that the laptop + power brick are probably 12 lbs alone without the packaging. Hmm. Maybe they don't pack it the same in California's location as the Tennessee location or it's different for FedEx Priority Overnight? The dimensions for the package on the Fedex tracking seem like the right dimensions based on the unboxing videos I've seen: 18x4x14 in. I'll know by Friday night here in Hawaii...
@Johnni3: Check this post here, and the ones that follow after that regarding the pads (Ultra Extreme). There are some links to the pads on Amazon. I bought the 1mm Ultra Extreme pads, but it might be that we need 2 thicknesses of pads.hmscott likes this. -
Thank you so much I appreciate that!
Hmm... 11lbs... yeah hopefully it's just different packing. Ur in Hawaii? I used to live on wheeler on Oahu when I was kid back in the early to mid 90's.

I received my Alienware 17 R4 w/ Nvidia GTX1080, 1440p display today, Dec 2, 2016. I ordered it on Nov 21. It was packed in a very thin cardboard paper layer over the black cardboard/foam Alienware box.
Screen: I don't see any light bleed whatsoever on this TN display when I set the screen background to black on full brightness. I think I do see the scan lines sometimes, but only when I'm really close to the screen. The screen does make fonts for certain apps look fuzzy though - but I think that maybe that has more to do with Windows scaling at 150%; it looks sharp but way too small when I change the scaling to just 100%. (I'm coming from a Macbook Pro, and using Windows 10 for the first time).
Heat: Using the factory settings and drivers for the laptop, I ran the Prime95 stress test and then OCCT CPU test. I did turn Gsync off - but that shouldn't affect these CPU benchmarks. The keyboard does get warm to the touch, but it is totally bearable.
Idle: cores at: 47C, 48C, 48C, 48C
Prime95: cores at 78C 68C 74C 66C after about 15 minutes in a hot room that is 29C ambient (I'm in Hawaii). When I first started the test, the cores were 10C hotter then the numbers above - the fans were slow to kick in. The fans were surprisingly nice sounding - not whiny jet engine; it's more of a whooshing brown noise sound.
OCCT: cores at around 74C, 66C, 65C, 68C after 20 minutes in the same hot room.
It looks like the 10-12C core differential is here on the GTX1080 version too. Should be ok after some repasting next next week.
Benchmarks: Firestrike: 14585 Timespy: 5971 (all settings are just out of the box, except for gsync turned off)
Other findings:
AlienFX didn't work initially - the lights just wouldn't change colors. It worked after a restart.
Tobii eye tracking had a really tough time tracking my eyes with glasses on.
The power brick is damned heavy - like a real building brick. Combined with the massive weight of the laptop, I doubt I'm going to be taking this out of the house often.judal57, CrazyHoover, hmscott and 2 others like this. -
You just made me a happy man tonight! Those are some good temps man. Some of the other guys who received theirs today saw some pretty high temps. Push come to shove Im still down to do a re-paste as well when mine gets here.Congratulations!hmscott and andyman404 like this.
