1m, about 40-50% depending on game, and it be about 50-60% improvement on 970m

Strange to be torn between 2 completely diff segments... Why not AW 15?
Anyway portability and size factors aside. They should have 45% between the 1060 and 1070.
Other intangible performance would be the OLED display. 1m response time, but also a completely diff experience in image quality. 10000000:1 contrast ratio. Also touchscreen if you want.
Should be noted that if you are super competitive in FPS games. That contrast ratio is not for you. (A lot harder to see enemies hidden in the shadows and whatnot) -
Sadness, 6 reps, and the lowest price they would quote me for a LP of $1875 (i7, OLED, Win Pro, Killer 15xx) is $1788. (Less than 5% discount). Not getting anywhere near 20%.

Thank you for that, on the refresh rate question I mean to ask whether its a 60hz display or 120 hz?
-
I have a rep that works with me and gets me mad discounts, I can put her in touch with her, she can get you close to 20% off
-
PM'ed. Thanks!!!

My recent order info shows delivery date of 11/27/16, but order details shows 11/28/16-12/6/16
Its 99.999% 60hz. If it was any higher it would have been advertised quite a bit. -
Mannnnnn that sucks :/ -
Thank you,
Yes, I am still torn actually since I learned that they might release the 1080 videocard soon, I cancelled my order for my alienware 17 with 1070 because of this..... then they release the alienware 13 with OLED
.........what to do. I also like the fact that the 17" laptop has a screen with 120hz rate. Still trying to decide
-
Don't know of any OLED screen that is higher than 60hz and only a handful of laptops even have more than 60hz. I'll take a good OLED screen and even IPS over 120+hz any day. There are more than just FPS games out there...
-
I guess we cant have everything huh.... man im so torn between both sides
-
oh. im not sure about that, but my money is on 60hz because if it had 120hz more people would be talking about the aw13. page would literall be on page 30 by now
-
-
If it were 120Hz, the website would most certainly say so.
By the way, where's the owner's manual for this thing?Last edited: Nov 2, 2016 -
It took a day for my order to get confirmation and the ETA also got pushed a day to December 15.
I can't complain though since other parts of the world can't even place an order yet.
I wonder how popular the OLED model is and if there will be shortages. -
Ok figured it ok. Got a week left to wait before can order
And I'm laptopless as off tonight.
My iPhone needs to step up. Final fantasy 9 will continue again 33hrs in.

Do you guys think the OLED is worth it? Interested in this laptop but not sure if I would rather save the money and not worry about burn in?
-
I think its worth it. Plus, its only a $250 upgrade and along with OLED you get higher res, brighter screen, and touch. Thats one of the more reasonable upgrades i've seen in awhile.
-
Is that another week until we see prices and we can order in the uk?
I asked on their Facebook page when they will be available and they said soon
come on give me a date ffs
-
Hi DevilDoc17,
After reading this thread and seeing your message I decided to create an account after a long time of just reading threads. Would you be able to put me in contact with your rep friend? I couldn't seem to locate the PM function on this site -_- -
The word "soon" is a relative term. So what might be soon for them might be ages for you. A week isn't that long. But it's long enough for us cos that's 9 days longer.
The night before it was released I had a feeling it was only going to be USA that gets to order and it dawned on me. and I've come to terms with what I thought on the wait although didn't expect it to be in a separate week. The AW15 and 17 came in shorter time to the uk when it 1st came to USA.
Anyway I read it on a tech article. It said 10th for most of Europe and the 18th for china.

New video from HotHardware where they take a closer look at the internals.
-
I just confirmed with Dell that the OLED screen is indeed 120 HZ with a 1 ms latency.
This laptop may really be a perfect 10/10 -
Confirmed with who? If it's a sales rep, then they're not telling you the truth.
Some reps don't know what they're talking about. -
It was from a sales rep, but don't spoil it lol, I want to believe!
-
They could probably tell he wanted it to be 120hz and wanted the sale.
It be better to actually ask the YouTube bloggers whose actually got one rather a sales/customer advisor

I can wait for ordering but I just want to see the prices
-
The only 120Hz QHD screen they offer is on the AW 17.
-
-
Hello, I sent you a PM
-
That would be awesome!! Someone needs to chime in and confirm this ;/
-
is that uk discount
-
ot is a joke isnt it not asking for much
-
Anyone have any recommendations on a case for this? Something low-profile. Traditional 13" sleeves won't fit.
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Will fit in 14" sleeves fine. Anything for the Aorus X3 would be best. Or Razer Blade.
I bought a Waterfield waxed canvas sleeve for my R2 and love it: https://www.sfbags.com/collections/laptop-sleeves
They custom fit for $69 -
Even though it's for my 13 R2 and was for my old m14xR2 and 13 R1, I used the m14x Alienware laptop sleeve. Leaves enough space for a charger, mouse, and headphones.
Considering the 13 R3's size, I don't think you'll be able to fit the charger in there. But something of similar dimensions and without the branding should work. -
Ditto. But USA never got a sniff before. It was just like BAM!!! "Surprise! I'm here ready to order now. You know you want me!"
We will get the same. But I think the pricing will be as close you see the price in USA as it is without converting it. So if it's $1249. It's £1249. Just look at the current AW15 and 17 prices in USA and compare to U.K. Model prices. You will get a rough idea from that for 13

i forget how much cheaper this stuff is in US... christ.
-
Incomes are also much lower (unless you're in a special field). I told my friend in Sweden what our minimum wage is, and he laughed.
-
Lol. Anyway what's Brazil and argentinas excuse cos they price laptops at double the rest of the world and it's not as if they all have wages like messi and neymar.

That is due to supply and demand. It plays a role in all regions.
EDIT: Supply and demand is also affected by income.Last edited: Nov 4, 2016 -

@sev7en,
Congratulations. That's pretty expensive, though. The RAM and SSD are cheaper aftermarket. Did you not use any coupons? -
This new Alienware 13 is so tempting but it's heavier and 14 inches seems like a small enough screen size as it is with the Blade but if I have any issues with this laptop I will probably return it and instantly order an OLED AW.
-
The weight is just a consequence of top of the line build quality/materials as well as optimal cooling. I was inbetween the Razer and AW 13 but ended up going with the AW because I've heard too much about the throttling and QC issues with the Razer.

I'm going to wait for Volta and HBM. This is a good notebook, but the Pascal release overall has been disappointing, with GPUs that run too hot, exactly the same IPC counts as Maxwell, the case of the missing HBM2, and the severely under-powered mid-range GPUs. As I've said before - this release is analogous to Intel's die shrinks of its CPUs, i.e. Sandy -> Ivy, Haswell -> Broadwell, etc.
Enjoy your purchases, gents. I'll hang around, answer questions, ask some of my own... And I shall see Maxwell 1 'till its death in 2018. -
So far it seems like I have a good Blade without any issues but as I do more with it I guess time will tell, I have 30 days to return to the Microsoft store should I have any issues, so if I do run into any I will definitely be considering the AW before the Blade again. Hoping some reviews and benchmarks and in game performance stuff will start popping up for the AW13 before it's too late for me to return should there be better performance out of one unit vs another.

I was going to ride it out. Volta is what it's about. If it wasn't going to be so good. The next generation as normal would put the next 1160 around level of 1070 (50% increase) but cos of Volta I'm expecting it to be 1080 performance LOL. 1080 will probably be the only laptop to use hbm2 as the first introduction But I think the 1160 will use gddr5x and 1170 just to narrow the performance gap.
For now I've had my laptop for 1yr 4mths and I dont want to rock my 960m for another year as it's not enough plus the notebook itself is not attractive enough to warrant that. Maybe the p34w I had would of been or if I had a p640re, which l gotta say is why I didn't order anything sooner. Was looking at the refresh hopefully. But I am laptopless now and the AW13 is next week to order. I'll ride that out till Volta since 1060 is JUST enough for me.

Nice. I haven't got the money, nor the time, nor even the interest to get a new laptop. New games are coming out, but somehow I'm not interested in them. Also, my 860M (however OCed) is practically low-end now, I wouldn't be surprised if the 1040 used GM107.
Besides, I'll enter university in 2018, I want a brand spanking new notebook to go with it. For now... I want to put aside gaming and any high-performance stuff - do something more productive with my notebook, like development, learning LaTeX, writing personal statements, photography, etc... Give that 860M a well-deserved break. It's been running at 120% its rated speed for two and a half years straight...
As for your predictions regarding HBM availability... They make sense. Which is why by mid-2018 I expect most new GPUs to come with HBM2, but not necessarily next year.
