Hello guys,
Almost same as this guy issue ( https://na.alienwarearena.com/ucf/s...-support-1/ForumPost/alienware-15-r3-freezing)
In my situation it freezes and nothing works and laptop turns on all vents on maximum ( i can tell that by noise).
Its starts overheat in idle mode ( GPU and CPU works on 100% i guess?) ~ by touching front panel i can fell that its really hot ( Its not so hot even when i play games like PUBG, GTA 5 ).
All USB ports turns off ( when i unplug/plug back mouse/ headset lights isn't working ( Thats why i think all ports are suddenly off).
In short: Its freezes turns on all vents ,GPU ,CPU on 100% and turns off all ports. ( For restart i need to hold on/off button for at least 10 sec ).
This type of freeze only happens when its idle (none near laptop), or when doing casual things (working in word, surfing internet...) never happened while i was in game.
Anyone had same issue? Any fixes?
Specs:
i7 - 6700HQ
GTX 1060
RAM - 16 GB (Dual)
HDD - HGST HTS721010A9E630
SSD - SK hynix SC308 SATA 128GB - SYSTEM

Check temps using HWINFO. I think your SSD is hitting throttling temps.
-
I checked all temps after playing PUBG for while maximum what they GPU - 57 C , CPU - 81 C.
SSD - maximum 39 C.
When its freezes in idle its starts to overheat way more...
It might be broken ssd itself? -
Put up HWiNFO64 as the pict. Then take a screenshoot with your phone when it happen on idle speed. See if the different values change when the freezes going on.

There were several FW updates for SK Hynix SSD, you might run it. I think it speeds up performance and other enhancements.
PCIe hynix http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=6P63Y
SATA hynix http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=PJDRD -
Thanks will see if that help.
Found person with almost same issue, (we both have same Alienware model and ssd mark) so i suppose its faulty ssd or somewhere wires/connections with mother board are faulty, in result system starts acting weird.Vasudev likes this. -
Can’t see one of the pictures. What I meant... Use your smartphone regarding take a screenshot while temp is high (freezing). I know you can’t take screenshots if you encounter freezing
And I can see a huge drop in your SSDs Drive remaining life.
Edit. Could you try run maxed fan speed with Hwinfo fan control over a longer period and see if you run into same freezes? You won’t kill your fans by doing this for your testing.Last edited: Feb 26, 2018Vasudev likes this. -
Will using Optimise Function in MS defrag too bring some health back? Since W10 never TRIMs SSD even after missed schedule.

I would be sure to have backup.
And there is proper tools for optimize it on the web.
Se also my Edit.Vasudev likes this. -
I feel Uninstalling this supportAssist will get rid off most errors and speedup your PC. Dell only checks ePSA results for diagnostics.
Also briefly stop dell vault services in services.msc, I think its better to put those service to manual instead of automatic.
Install Dism++ and check mark PDB and NET Assembly/Symbol thing and clean them up. Afterwards, run these commands in powershell or cmd prompt as admin:
It will cleanup older assembly files and create updated assemblies optimised for your PC. I think AFXcontroller error should be fixed after this.Code:cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\ ngen update cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ ngen update
Otherwise check AlienFX keyboard cable and also macro key cable as well.superhat likes this. -
Just make it easy. @superhat can uncheck the bloatware in Autoruns.exe. Then test as usual. And he can check for flaws in the Reliability List instead for the Dell junk if needed. As well use WhoCrashed to see if the loog contain any info about his problems. No need to take all steps in one gap. Need to find the culprit.

Is it safe to remove almost all installed Alienware / Dell softwares? ( i have 200+ active running processes ).
I checked all logs, there are no info about crash.
Here's how these freeze looks not mine video ( https://streamable.com/q4e74 ) - in my case they are same, no clue why its also starts burning GPU, CPU and fans while freezed.
Here Reliability Monitor:

Yeah, it’s safe run without Dells proprietary software. With Autoruns.exe you can simply check or uncheck boxes for most software/services for your testing. Uncheck boxes means the task won’t start. Or simply uninstall software and rule out which one is the problem. A reinstall of OS or software (as well drivers) can fix many problems.

You can keep AW command center, AGA graphics SW, OSD.

Did anyone ever resolve this problem? Im getting the same thing with an 18 month old 15 R3.
The problems started maybe 2 months ago and are getting worse, going from 1 lockup a day to 6 an hour.
Always seems to happen on idle/light load. Just as the video above, it freezes totally and needs a power button hold to restart.
CPU temps at the time are all about 46c or so, SSD temp about 36c, GPU temps low and processors under near or no load.
Ive tried using the integrated only and dedicated GPU only reboot flags and same event.
Its identical symptoms to those mentioned, everything freezes, all fans go onto full, the area around the power button above keyboard get really hot and it sits there until powered off.
Reliability monitor shows nothing at all other than "windows was not shut down correctly" after the reboot.
Its a stock install of Windows 10 without the Dell/AW bloat.
Alienware 15 R3 randomly freezes
