I need help on my AlienFX lights. The lights are working and all lights are on but it seems I cannot change the color of the lights in the command Center. I tried unsintall/ reinstall the Alienware Command Center but still no go. Is this a hardware issue? Any solutions?

I got the same problem on the lights but mine is luminous uneven, have you tried to reinstall just the Alienfx software? or update it?
-
Did you install the correct command center?
-
Yes I did. Still won't change color

My original unit's lighting would periodically stop working entirely. I would have to reflash bios every time it messed up. Repairing and reinstalling command center didn't help. Much better luck with my replacement.

Hi, got the same issue, i tried everything i've read on the internet and nothing worked. Is there another solution ?
Update : I managed to solve the issue. How ? Uptaded the bios, i was in 1.0.8 and now 1.0.9. Not sure if it'll last longer but yeah, give it a try if this issue happens to you.Last edited: Jan 19, 2017 -

The RGB lights seem to be nonvolatile-persistent (I made that term up). Meaning the lights do that last thing they were told to do (no deadman's switch there) and they will do that forever unless given new instructions by Alienware Command Center.
For example, I can reboot into a different OS (like Arch Linux or TrueOS (FreeBSD)) and the lights will still come on based on the last user's settings from Windows. You can test this for yourself in Windows by using two user accounts and switching color themes for each user. At login the RGB lights will still hold the settings from the last user until AWCC loads (in the background) only then do the colors change. That's probably explains why your lights are on but (to use the old saying) no one is home.
But it's not "you" who's not home it's the AWCC and .NET Framework, most likely. I would do this: Uninstall AWCC. Uninstall *all* of your dotNET Frameworks (whatever versions you have). I don't have Windows 10 handy, but this is how I reinstall dotNET Framework under Windows 8.1 Pro x64:
(from an elevated command prompt, Where Drive E my Windows 8.1 USB install disk
DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 /All /LimitAccess /Source:E:\sources\sxs
Download from Microsoft (.NET 3 patch):
Windows8.1-KB2898868-x64.msu
Download from Microsoft (dotNET 4.5 needed for AWCC 4.0):
NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe
Sometimes from time to time the latest .NET Update (often 4.6.2, or similar) will b0rk your runtimes, so you need to repair them. Modern DLL hell, I tell you! -
Fresh install of C-Update from Microsoft ISO database, installed AlienFX on it and everything is working good. So must be something that happens in the update with the driver or along that lines. But a full fresh install of C-Update Windows 10 seems to work fine
Alienware 17 R4 -
So its best to install win 8?

Follow @Aroc steps as above, in addition to that perform these 2 steps as well.
- cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319
- ngen update /silent /nologo
- cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319
- ngen update /silent /nologo

I tested Framework with a test and its : success
But alien fx says it cant connect to computer
-
Iv fixed it

Used the driver from windows 7 on my windows 10 and then it work -
And i installed
Net framework 3.5 and 4.6 -
Had a similar problem with my R4. The macro keys would not work as in I couldn't program them or change their color. As soon as I tried to configure them at all CC would crash with an error message. I still don't know what was screwing it up but a fresh install of Windows for the second time seems to have fixed it and they are working properly now.
If anyone finds software that is breaking AlienFx please let us know. -
I've had this happen to me twice so far, both times after closing the lid, and possibly related to Tobii's settings for turning off the lights when you're not looking at the laptop since the lid is closed. Both times I found in Device Manager that the device controlling the lighting was reporting that there was a mismatch of device IDs, I think. My solution was to uninstall the device completely, reboot, and then it would reinstall after reboot. However, I could not apply my original lighting profile in AlienFX but had to create a new one.
I do not recall having the error occur since installing the Creators Update and Tobii 2.8. Tobii may not be a factor in this, but it was interesting that it seemed to be tied in to Tobii's power management features. Hope this helps. -
