I am finding my Alienware M17x R3 (latest version which ever R that is) is loosing its overclock when being resumed from sleep.
For example the bios is set to a 4Ghz overclock, but when resuming windows from power off i only get 3.5Ghz. As the multiplier is lower. If i restart computer its no problem. Any one else found this?
Also not getting full performance from my NVME drive in terms of write speed. Did a clone of old drive, would a fresh install help ?

A fresh install could help. Did you try both ports by any chance?
About the overclocking, try loading the newest BIOS.PHILIP1193 likes this. -
How ironic, I've just noticed this as well coming out of sleep...OC'ed to 4.1, but after sleep it goes down to 3.6 across all the multipliers...(Note: It does not go to stock / default, but down to just 3.6 x4)
Hmmm.....I'm on 1.2.2 ....definitely not going to "downgrade" the BIOS to 1.2.13 though....it's a fire hazard, literally. Such rubbish of an update. -
I'm on the bios 1.2.12. Is bios 1.2.2 newer than mine?
I've just shutdown and boot up my computer now due to downclocking issue. Its about 5 seconds slower than the resume which isn't massive and atleast this way i guarentee the overclock.
With regards to the NVME speed, what is everyone elses computer showing in device manage for the NVME drive? I have run the Samsung exe driver and its installed but windows is still using the microsoft driver (see attached film).
Definitely in the 4x slot as samsung magician confirms this.Attached Files:

Im on the latest bios 1.2.14 for the Alienware 17 R3 and also getting the problem coming out of sleep lose my overclock and clock speeds are set to 3.6ghz across all cores. Only thing that brings overclock back is a restart. @Alienware-L_Porras could you pass this to your point of contacts regarding this issue; it is still a problem with the latest bios lose overclock after sleep.

Im on 1.2.14 and same issue clocks down to 3.6ghz after sleep and requires reboot.
P.S. you might want to change your signature you have been outranked for intel XTU 6820HK benchmark

Hence the (AW17R3).

Did you try troubleshooting packs in control panel. Try running hardware troubleshooting pack and let windows fix the issues for you, if any.

Issue seems to be another bug with bios when coming out of sleep to get stuck with a clock of 3.6Ghz. Downloaded Throttlestop ( thanks @unclewebb ) 8.10 beta 2 and checked set multiplier and in FIVR menu enabled overclock to match what was set in bios (4.0Ghz on all multiplier). Also tested unlocking voltage and adjusting offsets that works also with an adaptive voltage setting. I am able to hit 4.0ghz with stock voltage settings. Currently in process of adding throttlestop to windows startup folder, wish there was an option to start with windows in the program though

there is another bug on latest BIOS with NVMe drivers, I'm using the standard PM951 ssd which came with my alienware 15 R2, with BIOS above 1.2.7, there is constant read rates reported on NVMe ssd even when its idle, due to driver conflict.. when I switched back to 1.2.2 the problem was gone, alternate solution on latest bios I tried installing Samsung 950 Pro NVMe Controller Driver, issue fixed but everytime I reboot I get this "media disk not found", on next restart it works fine, I would like to see a BIOS update soon with NVMe, sleep bug, along with latest EC firmware, UEFI VBIOS update..

Soon will new Aw models be released and the previous models will be forgotten as always. Why spend money on older tech? The engineers working fully days on newer machines before releasing now!!
-
so 1 year is exactly their support period.. hope the technology update take place every 2 Year Min, Same Goes for Desktop GPU.. totally a mess these days.. but there is nothing wrong in providing updates on BIOS even if its 3 years old.. hardly takes 10-20 people to work around BIOS/Driver Updates..

If you see all ****ed up bios versions from early 2013, you probably know that this isn't on the priority list for son obsolete machines. The same with the socket machines, and now the ECHO models. Better with every dime to the shareholders than fixing problems for their valuable previous customers machines. Don't expect too much!!
Dell don't use own engineers for firmvare. They hires for the job. = cheaper!!
