So I searched and didn't see anything here for it. I personally think this is a MUST-DO modification. The touchpad is okay in its stock form but it certainly does not have the accuracy, nor display the capability, of newer laptops like the XPS 15, Lenovo Thinkpad laptops, or Macbooks. For those of you that have replaced your drivers, you know what I mean.
Microsoft's Precision Drivers really do make the world of a difference.
You can watch the YouTube video here on Windows Central that explains how to do it but essentially this is it:
Step 1: Identify which driver you have (Alienware 15 R3, we have Synaptics and the 17 R4 should have it as well)
Step 2: Download the Windows Precision Driver from Lenovo here
Step 3: Go to your device manager (right click on windows)
Step 4: Go to Mouse and other pointing devices
Step 5: Select Synaptics Pointing Device
Step 6: Right-Click and select Update Driver
Step 7: Select Browse my Computer for Software
Step 8: Select Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer
Step 9: Select Synaptics HID and then have disk
Step 10: Locate your .inf file

Step 10: Let it go through the process and when you restart, you'll have gestures that are similar to the Macbook Pro, and a much more accurate touchpad. Here are the gestures you'll have access to:

Hope this helps some people out there that haven't done so yet. Some issues that one person on Reddit has reported was that their touchpad no longer lit up and couldn't change the colour in AlienFX. That was a one-off though and I haven't had any issues. Love this new setup. Enjoy!

Alienware touchpad have i2c or HID driver that is needed for AFX Light to work. If you unpack dell drivers, be sure to install that Hid mini driver filter or i2c infto get AFX back.

Here is a link to the latest drivers:
https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1mgx30w.exe
That is version 19.3.4.201, dated 01/05/2018. Just run the setup, choose a desitnation directory to have it unpack the drivers. Choose not to run the installer at the last step and manually install as above.
I will also add, I do believe the touchpad lighting issue is because the user did not install the AW Synaptics driver first. If you do that and then upgrade to the Lenovo UltraNav driver (that is what the Precision driver is now called, UltraNav) manually for only the trackpad HID you won't have any AFX issues. -
For the ones who did this, how many extra tabs do you guys have in Mouse Properties (ThinkPad, Synaptics, etc)?

Did anyone try this on the 17R4? I remember seeing this guide on Reddit months ago and tried it out but the touchpad went squirrely after I did the modification. The pointer was all over the place and I had little control. For the amount I ever use the touchpad the stock driver worked for me....I am on an external mouse 99% of the time anyways.

Did you try Synaptics 19.7x driver from dell. It fixed most issues for me i had on my pc.

I never had much in terms of problems with any of their Synaptics drivers TBH. I tried the precision ones expecting angels to come down from the heavens and show me the error of my ways but that didn't happen haha.

Yeah. I was having problems with inconsistent scrolling on two finger scrolling. Then I started using AW Mouse and trackpad usage for longer time is major strain on my arm.
