I received my new 17 r4 yesterday.
7820 hk
1080 gtx
1440p 120hz
32 gb of Hyper X 2667 - just put in
960 pro 512gb - just put in
1535 Killer card
I purchased a intel 8625 because I had issues with my 13 r3 dropping connection mid game. First thing I did was install fresh 1535 drivers... Mid game my network round trip time would spike up to 1000ms and freeze the game for a second. Also I would drop in frame rate down to zero then back up to 120 fps.
Is this a network card issue or is this a gpu issue?
On my desktop I do not have these issues. Game - Overwatch.
Thanks for the help.

Try these tweaks mentioned in the post. Killer vs. Intel network cards performance
-
Tried those first no luck.. I just put in the intel 8265 card. Updating drives going to try it out on a game see what happens.
I have a Asus RT-AC5300 Router. I see the intel cards tend to preform better with this type of router at least that is what the notes say in the thread you linked. -
So just tested it is still doing it in overwatch the network round trip time jumps and the thing freezes up.. strange.

Not sure if that link works for anyone but last 10 seconds you can see the fps drops to zero and RTT jumps to 500

Worth checking your PCH temp, if its above 85C you will see similar issues. Any background app could be causing it, even WU could be the culprit
-
How would I check my PCH temperature?
-
strange is my alienware 13r3 doesn't do this, nor does my desktop. Has to be something specific to the 17 r4
-
Temps look normal.
Reinstalled the game.
Reinstalled drivers
Installed new 8265 intel wifi card.
Same issues.... Maybe its the gpu?
Temps below.

On my 17 R4 , im using the stock Windows Drivers with the Killer 1535 and its working great with Mikrotik HAP AC router. Im just going to quote what posted in another thread. This is not as simple as getting new NIC, the router matters as well -
Also i would check your DPC latency using a tool like Latency Mon. That will probably tell you whats causing those spikes.Vasudev likes this. -
seems unlikely to be the internet. Since my Alienware 13r3 doesn't do it or my desktop?
-
Then it could be the NIC or some driver / app causing the issue.
-
I replaced the NIC from Killer 1535 to Intel 8265.. uninstalled all old drivers.
-
Check the DPC latency.
-
Not issues all in green or yellow around 1000
-
PCH never got hotter then 70
-
That isnt all that low either. Mine hovers around 300-500 at most.
Try to monitor it when the spikes happen.
Weird question, do you by any chance have the Autodesk Application manager installed?Vasudev likes this. -
No I don't I've had this laptop maybe 10 hours total.
doing Factory reset and trying over again. -
Spent 2 hours on the phone with Alienware tech support. They can't figure out the issue either. I think maybe fresh reset, disable the Killer stuff immediately since I am running the 8265 now and try with a fresh gpu driver install on a new system.
If that isn't it I will be returning this thing and making them send another one out. -
Why do you have the Killer Suite/Drivers installed when you are running the Intel 8265?
If you have the Killer LAN Ethernet, then all you need to do is point it to the appropriate folder to install the drivers manually. That way you avoid any sort of killer bloat on the system. -
It's uninstalled.

Just did a fresh install. Now installing the game.
Uninstalled killer since using 8265. Not touching geforce drivers until I know the game runs without these glitches. -
How can I change the title to this thread. It appears to no longer be a network issue but another issue entirely.
New 17 r4 - 1535 network issue?
