I installed it, there seems to be a small adjustment to the fan curve but other then that I don't see any noticeable diff, other then the support they added for new hardware.
Fixes & Enhancements
1. Alienware Dominator application support.
2. Nvidia MaxQ Graphic support.
-
Lol, I missed the post, sorry for the double one, if a mod wants he can merge or delete it. -
I think we are all excited about getting a new bios.
-
I just wish they would add more parameters to freaking adjust in the Bios like undervolting. Would make life 10x easier.
-
I am excited about the OC built into the Command Center if it turns out to actually be decent. From what I saw on the twitch stream it looks like you can undervolt from that app and hopefully it will save it etc.
-
Which stream?
-
The E3 stream they did where they officially announced all the new peripherals and showed some of the new OC tool in CC.
-
And have Dell finally put in a fan control app in ACC? Or same as usual?
-
if "alienware dominator" is just an XTU overlay, remind me to never install it
-
I mean several ODM's use XTU overlay. And a Hell lot of it is pure Crap!! Expect Alienware will follow the sheep. Only later to the party. I can't imagine Dell can create a OC tool by themselves. They have always pushed their customers over on 3rd party software like Hwinfo.
-
If it was it would not need a BIOS firmware update to the system. Something tells me it goes a little deeper but we will see.
-
Yoo can implement bios features with Xtu services and proprietary Dell software like ACC.
-
it's probably to add the functionality / option to enable-disable XTU access to bios
but with that said, it's still possible to use XTU with the old bios (1.0.9 kbl), so I'm not sure why (if dominator is an XTU overlay) would it need a new bios
have you flash to yours? I'm hoping for the XMP option to get unlocked just like the skl models got them -
I don't remember seeing fan controllers but maybe I missed it? We will find out July 6th as that is the supposed release date.alexnvidia likes this.

Is the latest 17R4 BIOS 1.1.7 or 1.1.6?
-
I fix it for yoo. K stand for Kaby lake. And S stand for...
-
Has anybody done any benchmarking with the new bios and is it stable?
-
Got it. The Dell support technician thought 1.1.7 was the latest version for my system.

still on 1.0.9, will test and tell you later
-
I installed the latest bios and now I'm setting TDP throttling. I don't get to 90c anymore, but my CPU MHz gets limited around 3.2 on 4 cores. Any thoughts?

Don't do it for me, was just wondering what the general feedback has been since the update?
-
Still running S1.0.8 on my A15R3. Is this better or another BIOS version is recommended or still with what I have?
-
Running the new bios on mine without any problems. Have not done and benchmarks though so I can't tell you if that has changed. Temp wise everything is where it was prior to the update so there was no change there for me. I updated mainly to get my hands on the new Dominator software due out soon.

I installed 1.1.6 on my 7820HK/1080 and my CPU temps are slightly lower after running a stress test.

Based on other threads it looks like the newest bios is severely limiting TDP so people stop reporting that the laptops are getting too hot.
-
Any more updates on this Bios?
-
Tried it. As always +12°C average for both PCH and SSDs... No change for CPU / GPU.
Rolled back to 1.0.8, where my PCH is in the high 40's and SSD around 40°C.
-
I only updated it so that the Graphics Amplifier has best chance of working (haven't had much luck these past two nights). Let's see.
-
Damn. Dells Bios update history doesn't look promising at this rate. Hope they release a proper fix.
-
New bios updates if they come with improvement will normally have side effects. Aka breaking other features. A never ending story. + Intel's new bug for Skylake/Kaby lake has to be fixed. Expect new side effects when the updates come

Damn. It does seem like 1.0.8 is the best so far. All the others just have the fans kicking in early, or coil whine, or in the case of 1.0.9 failing to recognize a closed lid and draining the battery, or even adding the boot drive as a removable drive which you can unmount.
Yeah, I'm sticking with 1.0.8 until they get their **** right. -
Public Service announcement; Disable overclocking features before upgrading to the latest... I bricked my 2day old AW17r4 like this.
Still waiting on a replacement motherboard.
Why's there no dual BIOS in these laptops?!
