only the AGA lid doesn't close
-
So I can use any graphics cards I'd like to but maybe can't close the lid? That's OK for me... So I need to correct the lid a bit
-
You must get it if You plan VR gaming..

Hi,
Can anyone advice will this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-GeForce-Cooling-Express-Graphics/dp/B01GBX86U0/- EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming with ACX 3.0 Cooling 8 GB GDDR5X PCI Express 3 Graphics Card - Black
Fit in the AGA?
Work with the AGA?
Thanks in advance. -
yeap you can
-
Work but won't close
-
I believe the Normal ACX 3.0, Founders or http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-5180-KR will close. The FTW seems to be about .5 -1 Inch higher in their stock pics. Does that sound about right @dannycao2412
-
Can anyone please confirm this? And as already asked: would anyone be so kind to measure the exact limits of the graphics card size?
Or is there something like the "best custom 1080" right now?Last edited: Jun 15, 2016 -
Can we say that as a rule of thumb, any graphics card with height not level with the L of the front plate (where the display connectors are) will not fit the AGA?
-
my MSI GTX 1080 FE just arrived at work
any suggestions on best setup ? I have an alienware 15R2 with 970m and GA. Have already latest Nvidia drivers installed -

Dumb question, it's been awhile since I had to do this. Which driver do you install when using the 970m + amp -- is it the mobile driver, or the desktop one?
-
I used to install the 970 desktop version as had a GTX 970

ok just opened my MSI GTX 1080 to install on the GFA but I notice that it has 8 pin connection. Which of the cables inside the GFA should I connect as they are pair of a 6 connector and pair of 2 connector
-
You just use a 6+2 pin connector (all the pins of ta single connector). 6+2 pin connector is another way of making an 8-pin connector.

@Game7a1 You hear anything yet on 1070 validation? My amp and 1070 are sitting here as paperweights
-
Not yet.
-
good or bad ?

@godwisper That's pretty bad. Check this out:

Yes, every card which the pcb is not higher than the L shaped thing will fit. I drawn a line in the picture bellow.
-
what do you think is my problem ? I am on latest bios 1.2.14
-
Flash 1.2.2 or 1.2.8 BIOS. That should fix the performance problem.

yeap all the cards after founders is too tall for the AGA
-
Game7a1 is absolutely right with the bios version. I'd recommend the 1.2.8 as my AGA has troubles with the "USB power-thru" (is it called like that?) when the laptop is turned off when I'm using the 1.2.2

tried with 1.2.8 and got only 14037

there are 2 which could cause the low scores... why do you have only 1000MHz core clock for the 1080? It should be way higher... If it is a Founders Edition somewhere around 1800 or 1900 MHz without any overclocking.
And why isn't your CPU overclocked? Try enabling it in BIOS... turbo clocks should be higher for the 6700hq, with the "stock" alienware OC when the AGA is connected.godwisper likes this. -
sorry don`t know how to setup oc in bios for the cpu and strange its showing 1000Mhz for the 1080

Are you using an external monitor (from the GTX 1080) or the laptop's panel?
Also, monitor your GPU usage through GPU-Z. -
For those who are wondering, the Evga 1080 SC fits perfectly in the GA.

You dont need to setup oc in the bios. Your turbo clock is only hitting 3.1 when it should be 3.6 on stock. You could try using throttlestop to control your clocks. There is a huge forum on this site dedicated to it. Your clock on the 1080 is also way too low which is also why your graphics score is low. The reason for that I don't really know but at least you know the problem. You have a little troubleshooting to do to get things rightgodwisper likes this.

You guys know if it's okay to use a 4-pin connector from each PSU cable grouping to plug into a card in the GA? Or is it better to just use one 6+2?

If you mean to power through an 8-pin port, then use a 6+2.

So I'm having an issue with the GA that I'm hoping people can assist with here. I have a 4k 17 R3, the GA, a GTX 970, and an Acer 27" XB270HU, which is 2560 x 1440/144hz. The GA is working in that I'm using it right now as I type this and I am able to set it to the proper resolution/hz, but everything in windows (excluding the mouse cursor,) feels like it has some lag to it. When I move windows, scroll in a browser, etc. It's just obviously there and I'm not sure what the deal/solution is. I am using the newest M driver series from nvidia....any suggestions?
-
can you link me to the forum ? So do I have something wrong with my alienware to get these clock speeds ? Maybe need a format ?
-
Thanks.
Another FYI for anyone interested, I seemed to have run into an issue running Evga Precision X with an Evga 1080 SC in the amplifier. Could have just been a coincidence but both times I tried it the screen went blank. I did not make any changes to the settings. Just had it running. Could also be because I was fiddling with some cables, so I'm not sure. Is the amplifier cable very sensitive to being touched? I'm not very keen on trying the Evga software again as I had to cold power off both times. I did appreciate seeing the stats though. -

is there a way of avoiding this by restoring my system ? Moreover what is the problem with my new GPU that shows a clock of 1000.

1070 seems to work great!
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/12509975 -
did you oc the 1070 ? My 1080 clock is 1000MHz and Memory bus clock 1251MHz which is weird :S
Guys are you doing some extra settings ? On my alienware 15r2 all I did was to change the bios from 1.2.14 to 1.2.8 and did a clean install of latest nvidia driver. I use mainly my GTX1080 for my HTC Vive -

what do you do for nvidia gtx 750 ti driver install for windows 10?
-
Good to know it works. What did you do to have it run?
-
TheSandman2236 Notebook Consultant
Newest current bios and updated drivers -- not sure which fixed it...I'd just do both. -
I used 1.2.14 bios yesterday but someone told me to try 1.2.8 ....so is latest bios working for you ? I just did reset my alienware and will try again tomorrow
-
TheSandman2236 Notebook Consultant
1.2.14 bios and the newest drivers from Nvidia. -
I said before that the 980 prices would drop as soon as the 1080 was available and here's the deal. Handy if anyone is thinking about buying an AGA but can't run to the cost of a 1080 as well.
NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970, GTX 980, and GTX 980 Ti prices drop

If you are using the internal display, that score seems about right.
