Yes. It's called "ghosting".
Alienware is looking into the problem.
-
i noticed this as well but only when using the nvidia card, especially when playing warframe. if i put the game in windowed mode it does not happen, only when in full screen mode
I have the lastest drivers installed. not sure what the issue is -
Dell just released first Alienware 13 configuration with 960M. Strangely at this stage it is model with i5. The 960M is described as: "Custom-built NVIDIA® GeForce® GPU with 2GB GDDR5". Custom build?
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-13/pd?oc=dkcwe04sc&model_id=alienware-13 -
It's a placeholder that used to describe the GPU in the Alpha.
Strange, Nvidia hasn't said anything about the 960m yet. Wonder why Alienware just went ahead and made a config fo the 13 with it already. -
Competition, I guess, Alienware does not want to be seen as slower to adopt the latest. Clevo announced a new 13in W230SD in Nov 2014 (not released yet) with: "the NVIDIA latest graphics card", most likely the 960M, Lenovo 'leaked' a month ago: "Lenovo Y50 with GeForce GTX 960M coming in March" and so it goes.
-
I would say that you're right, but as of now, no one but Alienware is selling a laptop with the GTX 960m.
Actually, no, you're pretty much right. Getting ahead of the competition could be seen as a wise tactic. -
Hi Gents. Well its been awhile since I posted on here and I have for the past 14 months been over to the dark side with a Clevo W230st. But my addiction to all things Alienware and a GA has brought me back. I have to say bang for buck the clevo was hard to beat, but sitting here typing on my lap without excessive heat or fan noise is nice plus the build quality of Alienware is great no flex anywhere. Just need an SSD upgrade and the 13 sorted. Not Since the M11x has Alienware made a portable gaming laptop the 13 is definitely in this category.
-
They also changed the processor to the i5-5200u.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-13/pd?ref=PD_OC
The lik you gave now just has the GTX 860m.
EDIT: They took down the GTX 960m configs. Early leaking being fixed once again.Last edited: Mar 11, 2015 -
anyone here try playing cities skylines on the 13" mine is not playable at all.
-
dang had one in my cart lol

I want to thank you for this post Game7a1. Got a bit stuck for a while but it ended up working fantastically. I'll make some clarifications in case others get stuck where I did.
This is basically copying the contents of nvdm.inf file from the 347.25 (on dell's website filename Video_Driver_4VD2P_WN32_9.18.13.4725_A02.exe) I had to redownload and extract the driver as I couldn't find the nvdm.inf file.
Pasting those contents into the 347.52 nvcvi.inf file (Extracted from Nvidia's site filename 347.52-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe)
Then you have to disable the driver enforcement
by shift clicking restart-->Troubleshooting-->Advanced Options-->Startup Settings-->Restart-->7
Run setup.exe from the 347.52 extracted drivers -
GTX 960m system with i5-5200U is back at Dell evalue code DKCWE04SC (can enter in the search) and QHD upgrade is only $50.
I have a 16% off coupon at Dell EPP I will PM you . Final price of $1150 + taxes
Pretty good deal if you ask me.Last edited: Mar 11, 2015 -
Still 860m for me.
And now it's back to 960m.
Now back to 860m.
And back to 960m.
And when I view in the cart, it's back to 860m.
Dell's website has gone insane.Last edited: Mar 11, 2015 -
5TH GEN i5 AVAILABLE.
Has anyone ordered the i5-5200 yet? We need comparison to the i7. -
-
Looks like their including the 960m on just the i5-5200.
-
Nah. Dell must be doing some testing with the configurations. AW13 with i5-5200u have already been sold in other parts of the world with the GTX 860m through Dell.
-
Dell ebay store is selling the i5-5200U as well.
-
Yep and some third party sellers as well.
Like this one. -
This time I have a gtx 960m in my cart lol $1150 with QHD after coupon...tempted to pull the trigger and see what the outcome is since its back to 860m
-
It says GTX 960m and i5-5200u in the "details view" of the cart?
-
Which coupon are you using?
-
It did, went to checkout then went back to apply dell advantage and it says not avialable
-
I'm stuck at a constant -18,382mW discharge rate.
Anyone know how to get it unstuck?
Multiple reboots haven't helped. -
@Egnix
try manually switching to integrated graphics via the nvidia control panel ,the 860m(or 960m) in mine was always kinda on in balanced mode giving me bad battery -
Anyone have updated news regarding SSD compatibility issue?
We can't just use crucial or intel?
Is Toshiba or Seagate working with AW13?
It's shame that Dell still hasn't released fixed BIOS yet! -
I don't think anyone has tested Seagate or Toshiba's 2.5" SSDs. Maybe the same goes for Transcend, Mushkin, Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, PNY, ADATA, Sandisk, AMD (yes, they make SSDs), Plextor, VisionTek, and probably some other brands I haven't mentioned 2.5" SSDs.

AW13 with 960m. -
Are we still waiting to see if the 860m in the broadwell models are in fact 960ms?
-
There's no waiting. The only thing that is different is the vBIOS, and that's it. The OEM 860m (the one in the broadwell 13) and 960m are of the same GPU variant. A vBIOS flash would do the trick, but then again, that applies to any GTX 860m.
-
For SSD users: I've got a Sandisk Extreme II 512GB in my Alienware 13: works very well...

Thanks! I will gather all information!

The model with the gtx 960m and the broadwell i7 is now available:

I switched between Balanced, Power Saver and my own custom power saver (which should save more power than the default power saver plan) multiple times to no effect. After I posted my previous message, I shut it down, left for 10 mintues, turned it back on and it was at a more normal ~-8,000mW.
If it happens again, I'll try the control panel thing.
Thanks! -
Hmm..what's so custom built about it? Isnt it the same 960m used by MSI. GE62...
-
It's just a plain GTX 960m, that's all.
That means Nvidia has announced them (silently).
It seems as if Alienware is now removing Haswell 13 and GTX 860m stock. The i5-5200u is now up. -
Wow. I just received my AW13 w/ i7 5500U + 860m yesterday....... and its already outdated. What are my options here? Is it worth the hassle of returning it and reordering it + all the damn waiting time?
-
The GTX 960m is just an overclocked GTX 860m (by 63 MHz). If you want that little boost, then you can return your current 13 and get the one with the 960m. The one thing the 960m has over the 860m is a bigger boost. It also doesn't seem to have any of the extra features the 965m and better have.

In other news, the i7-5500u is a $100 upgrade from the i5-5200u, which is a $50 upgrade from the i5-4210u.Last edited: Mar 12, 2015 -
Well, considering this would only be for a ~4-5% performance bump, I think I'll just stick with my current config. If I'm gonna wait for anything else, it's surely gonna be the AGA which could net waaaaaaay more than ~4-5%.
-
Now if only I could get the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia to cooperate and install GeForce Experience for my SHIELD Tablet I'd be happy. Tempted to try the method where I would disable driver verification would be possible without the AGA.

Awesome. Thanks!
Don't suppose you also know of anyway to make scrolling & zooming work in other browsers other than IE do you? These are my only 2 qualms with this notebook. -
Well there is a default zoom option in Chrome (settings -> advanced settings -> zoom -> select your percentage), but in Firefox, I only know that you have to zoom for every new website (zoom setting should stick to each website).
As for scrolling, I got nothing. Are you talking about scrolling with the touchpad or touchscreen? -
Mousepad/trackpad. Can't help but notice the desired behavior is flawless in IE. Not so much in Chrome or FF.
-
Well if anyone's curious Nvidia officially announced the 960M.... and AnandTech noted that the 96oM has a 67mhz gpu core overclock over the 860m but nothing else
-
Seems that Hearthstone hates using the 860m and crashes(freeze that requires reboot) no matter what driver I use. I changed to integrated graphics and it works fine and looks fantastic.
-
Did you whitelist the game?
Look through the forums to see what troubleshooting ideas they have for Optimus-enabled laptops? -
I have a GeChic ON-LAP 2501C monitor which I used a lot with my m11x with no issues. Trying to use it for the first time with my 13... When I first plugged it in it looked like it was working fine, but the 13 was in "duplicate display" mode which is pointless for me. I set it to "extend display" and lost the picture. Every time I try a new setting (even going back to "duplicate display") the screen briefly shows my wallpaper then goes blank. It's like it's receiving a screen mode it doesn't support or something.
Any thoughts? I've tried different resolutions and frequencies but no luck.
