its kinda weird that my frying pan HP from 2011 is running at the same temp/cooler than aw15... why do you think the cooling is so poor?

Are all you with BIOS a02 installed? This BIOS seems to put temps much higher than original BIOS a00 (10 celsius degree of diff)

I dont know if its a good idea..but yesterday i revert from a02 to a00 and it went well. But my aw15 was shipped with BIOS a00 as default and i have upgraded it to a02 manually before going back to a00

I dont think its a good Idea reverting the BIOS, since upgrading to A02 I have noticed better performance especially with MMO gaming

I think that if your laptop has the A02 bios as default maybe it could be a risk to revert the bios.
I suggest you to wait for A03 bios that maybe could resolve temps issues. (I read they are working on that)

Also mine was with a01 BIOS as default... but i didnt found it on dell website so I thought wrongly that it was shipped with a00.
Anyway now i have the a00 installed (maybe I'm lucky to have installed it without brick my laptop i dont know) and temps are much lower than before (honestly i dont remember with a01 BIOS)

I don't notice a lot of heat when playing LoL, but make sure you do the bios update to A002 as I found the system was bogging down before I upgraded it. also CS go is very lightweight on ur GPU.

another note, LOL does not scale well on 4k, run it in 1920x1080 :)

A laptop with such a powerful GPU and components in such a small enclosure will get quite hot, that's inevitable.

I just received my laptop yesterday, I'm really happy with it, I don't have time to try everything yet, overall hardware cosmetic looks great but I miss old alienware keyboard. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

No excuse for a high quality laptop to get toasting hot while doing moderate activities. I was literally just downloading drivers and it got toasty. Especially on the bottom and middle. Maybe I'm a fool for thinking IC diamond would improve any cooling.

A classic keyboard on a modern laptop... I thought I would never see this again in my life.

Thank God for Alienware, I don't have to use these horrible "chiclets" keyboards.

Thank God for a traditional trackpad too with real buttons, I hate that every laptop is trying to become a clone of the Macbook, which includes the once venerable ThinkPad line.

I was ready to pay $2500 for a laptop just to avoid that trash.

just noticed something VERY annoying about my alienware 15.
Just like a TV, when there are too many black/dark colored items on the screen, the brightness of the screen is lowered to gain a "better" black level. I cannot find a way to turn this off, and this is very annoying, since the switch from that low brightness to higher brightness takes a couple seconds, which makes it VERY noticeable.

I checked online and people stated that it's a dynamic contrast feature that cannot be disabled. Wanted to confirm, anyone knows this issue?

    1) Right-click on the desktop, select "Graphics Properties..."
    2) Choose "Advanced Mode" and click OK
    3) Click "Power"
    4) Pull down the "Power Source" drop down in the upper left corner and switch it to "On battery" (even though you might be on the power adapter, I got affected)
    5) Uncheck "Display Power Saving Technology"
    6) Click "OK"

I got the 980M, what is this that I read about a 240W power supply? Can I contact Dell Canada and ask for one? Or can this be bought from another source?

Don't buy it, contact Dell they have to give it to you for free.
Basically your laptop with everything uses more power than what the 180W can give you.

I've currently got the AW15 (970M/4K/16GB) and the Razer Blade 14 2015 (970M/3K/16GB) and I am comparing the two to see which I want to keep. On the AW15 Has anyone figured out a fix for the touchpad issues in Chrome? I have set the reverse scrolling to off, which works in everything except Chrome. I've checked online and it appears to a widespread issue, so i'm curious if anyone else is having the same problems. The Blade does not seem to have the same issues with the touchpad in Chrome, and though it's not a deal breaker it really is annoying. That and battery life are making me seriously lean towards the Blade.

    Hello everyone.
I ' m thinking of selling my Asus G751JT as it is very large and heavy , and yesterday since I ordered AW15 and is Already in production .

I ve been read the review of notebookcheck and I fear the noise generated by fans (especially if I compare With G751 )
Notebookcheck says the AW15 has maximum of 52dB . Is that true ?
    It is as noisy as a MSI GT60 / GT70 ??

What about CPU temps under load in a demanding game like BF4 ?
Thanks and sorry my bad english.

this noise is not from hdd (i've ssd) but from cpu fan..it's the same sound it does when you power on the laptop. Is the fan that starts to rotate from idle. I think it's normal..

I don't know why..mine starts not every minute, it depends on how many times the cpu temperature increase from idle 50-55 °C to higher value.

Will it hurt the longevity of hardware being that it gets this hot so often? its a bummer... I thought cooling was going to be top notch. I don't mind heat while gaming, but it shouldn't be getting hot when just surfing

It shouldnt hurt the longevity, but its still annoying, they made it thinner but its not like the Razer, i was expecting a lot better as well, meybe they will fux it a bit with updates even if i doubt.

Should I be considering returning this? my only problem is that it would cost a restock fee ($150) ... plus there isn't really a on par 15.6 laptop with 970m right now (pls don't suggest Sager). I'd rather not with 17 inches due to weight tho. I had an AW17 r1 and it just felt way too huge and hefty. This laptop is almost perfect but heat/ fan clacking makes it far from it :(
