Well a lint free cloth and just a little water on it may do the trick. But on all seriousness i owned an alienware with soft touch since the M14x R1 and now the 15 and i'm not really sure about the grease magnet thing, mine stay clean just like my deathadder and sabertooth.

    Hey guys,

I will be receiving my Alienware 15 soon and I am planning to add M.2 as my primary hd.
Now, what is the best way for me to install windows on my new M.2 ssd using windows that is preinstalled on 1k tb hd?

    Thanks!

    has anyone had this

when i move my laptop a bit or press higher up on the keyboard, i get static lines on the screen and then the laptop turns itself off and on.
a little bit of movement easily stops the charging too and i have to wiggle the charging cable

    Hey guys,

I have a few questions. Would it be better to simply install the SSD and then re spawn or do a fresh installation? I have heard if you don't do a fresh install the OS wont be optimized. Also, how do I go about doing a fresh install on a new SSD?

    Thanks in advance!

That really is a personal preference, but I always do fresh installations. You can do a fresh install via external dvd drive or usb drive in the bootup. If you have never done this before, you should look it up and learn about it before moving onto it. It's simple.

Hi guys. I already ordered the 970m version. Will the 180w supply do or do i have to ask for the 240w?

You don't need a 180W PSU if you have the 970m version. It's only for people with the more powerful 980m.

    Just a note:
As for the suggestion to skip LITEONIT L8T-256L9G-11 (MLC based by the way) SSD option in the first message, unless there is a high price mark up from Alienware, don't think that there is any reason to do so, esp. when one could accidentally get TLC based drive instead :)
Liteons are basically Plextor drives and are quite reliable, speeds are also totally adequate.

I am going to buy an Alienware (it will be my first one) at the Dell Website in the United States, but I don't live there. Could you help me with some questions?
Q1 - Could I have any problems because I don't live in the USA? I pretend to pay with a international debit card (Visa or Master).
Q2 - Is it possible to change the region of the warranty? (since I don't live in the USA)
Q3 - I will buy one Alienware 15 (i7 4710HQ+980M) in the USA, but I will be there for just 10 days. I want to know the time to the laptop arrive in my home, could someone answer this?
Q4 - My Laptop will come with just one HDD 1TB 7200RPM, could I add one Samsung 850 EVO 500GB M.2 to it?? ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TGIW1XG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) Is it too dificult?? How could I transfer the content(OS,etc) from the HDD to the SSD?? Would I need to first install the SSD and take out HDD to make it functional and after it working, replace the HDD?
Q5 - And about the DDR3L, I am going to pick the version with 8GB(2x4GB) but i pretend to buy this Corsair Vengeance Performance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3L 1600MHz PC3 12800 ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER#Ask) and change it. Is it easy to do? This Corsair memos would fit this laptop?
Q6 - About the screws to put the M2 SSD, Do Alienware could send it to me if I ask for it?
Q7 - About the PSU, Should I try to have the 240W chatting with the Alienware support since I will get the model with the 980M?
Q8 - Can I use Geforce Experience to install new drivers for the Alienware GPU or I need to install the drivers from the Dell webpage?
Q9 - Could someone help me to find discount coupouns? I really want to pay a little less for it. haha

Q1 - Yes, you probably can pay with international cards.
Q2 - Yes, you can change the warranty location if Dell has a Service Center in your country.
Q3 - That would be a problem, they never say the specific date to you to receive the system.
    Q4 - Yes, the Alienware 15 has 2 M.2 ports and a 2.5 HDD or SSD entry.
Q7 - Yes, talk to them after you made the order to receive asap as you will be here only for 10 days.
Q8 - GeForce experience is fine
Q9 - Check Microsoft Store today, they have some models of the Alienware 15 discounted today

I dont think you can. I think they have the same policy as xoticpc. the billing address of your credit card should be a place inside the united states. I had the same problem but since i had an aunt staying in the US i had my billing address changed to a US address just for a month. try calling your credit card company though for advice

The Alienware 15 with the 970m seems ok for games now, but next year when I want to play Oculus Rift games on ultra in 2K with +60fps, I'll want to use a desktop GPU in the Amplifier. Now, my question is, will the PCI x4 be a bottleneck? That's literally the only reason I'm holding off this purchase.

I see some test in internet to compare 16x PCI, its ok but some performance lose on this. Now depend to gpu its like 20+ fps.

Weird, I just called dell to help me revert and theyre are saying that a04 should be kept.... and they cant revert to a00, the 240 watt psu will suffice... So... what do I do? Stay with 240PSU + a04 or go to 240PSU + a00???

Is there any benchmarks with 14900 Memory 1866Mhz vs the 1600Mhz? I was just looking on crucial to make the jump to 16GB, up from the 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz currently. I saw the 1866Mhz option, didn't know if it was worth the extra cash.

Also, how does one go about getting the free 240 PSU? Thanks Gents.

Alright guys! I'm having some serious problems with my new Alienware 15.

Playing games on it is bad. Divinity original sins can only play it in very low settings, just downloads Lego worlds and its same agin, only runs on low settings.

It's connected to its power supply and the Radeon r9 is the dedicated graphics card.

Maybe I've done something wrong but I'm seriously struggling with the laptop and regretting even getting it now.

Maybe someone will be able to help, my set up:

    I7-4710HQ
(1920x1080) ips panel anti glare 300
    Radeon R9 M295x
    8gb Ram

Go to the battery icon make sure you are using the highperformance profile. Or right click the game click run with graphics processor. If all else fails i guess you got a defective gpu

Also, make sure you're using the dedicaded AMD graphics card and not the integrated Intel graphics. Sometimes this doesn't happen automatically.

Maybe you could check the connection between the speakers and the motherboard connector. Otherwise, could anything have happened to the speakers that could have damaged them? I'm guessing this wasn't an issue before.
