    I'm g
I'm getting the same temps, hopefully my replacement will be cooler too. Have you got the 6820hk? I'm thinking its maybe a bios problem, because my fans don't seem to be ramping up as much as they should (considering the temperature).

Dell prefer such fan profiles in their gaming laptops. Quiet as possible but really really hot... Dell is not going to change the fan profile in their Aw models to the better. Dell is neither interested in making a manual fan control app in their software as all other laptop OEMs already use.

Guys could you tell me after last windows 10 builds and after new driver updates how is alienware 15 r1 980m gtx 4k touchscreen doing? I want to buy one unit and upgrade it to Windows 10.

Is the touchscreen ok? How about games performance?

I read there were sound issues and a lot of bugs in Windows 10 caused by bad drivers. Is the situation solved with last builds upgrades of windows 10?

Is it safe to update the graphics card driver on an A15 R1 970M directly from Nvidia?

Just scored a nice AW 15 R2 on the Dell outlet for my friend, the GPU wasnt listed but the PSU wattage was, 240 watts.

    I figured for $863, it was an excellent deal (i7, 8gb, 1 tb 7200 rpm, 1080p, 980m?)

So, do they only ship the 240 adapter with the 980m models? If its 970m thats OK too but im hoping its the 980m.

Hello all, I ended up purchasing a 15 R2(specs below) and I was just wanting to see what the first things I should do when I get the machine, uninstall/install, update drivers, etc? Also I purchased the 1TB storage version for the sake of it been a little cheaper.. and I was wanting to purchase m.2 SSD: possibly a SAMSUNG EVO/Pro, any suggestions? And what would be the easiest way to transition to the m.2 when it arrives?

And another concern, while running some simple benchmarks(passmark) my fans went off like normal and a really kind of high pitch sound occurred..(only when the fans were going..), ill try to add the recording to this post. Hopefully it isnt anything to serious but it was rather annoying.

    Alienware 15 R2:
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M with 3GB GDDR5
    Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
    Windows 10 Home 64bit English
    15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 220-nits Display
    8GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 21"
    33MHz (4GBx2)
    1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

For those who are curious, I've calibrated my alienware 15 r2 skylate late December 2015 with Spyder5Pro.
The 15.6" UHD IGZO anti glare panel (SHP1450-LQ156D1) shows 97 %sRGB, 73% NTSC, and 77 % AdobeRGB gamut. Color reproduction looks more accurate after calibration.

I am hoping so as well that 240w adapter means the 980. I went ahead and snagged one as well to see if that is the case. Ended up paying 1200 for mine but it had 2 year complete care included.

I am new to the Alienware line - much more familiar with the pricing for the precision/latitude series. I was curious on what would be a good price at the outlet on the following:

    Alienware 15r2
    i7 6700HQ,
    nvidia 965m
1 TB HAD (will do the ssd upgrade myself)
8 gb ram ( will upgrade myself)
    1920x1080

    Thanks in advance.

I confirmed with a dell sales guy through chat yesterday that it was a 980m!

It came in today and was in immaculate shape. Incredible deal.

From what I have seen in the outlet, the i5 units usually have the 965m.

That said, I did see a scratch and dent i5 unit for $900 once, and you could take another 22% off ordering through chat.

My friend got the config you listed but with a 970m for $1079 - 20% coupon - 2% for order over chat so $841.62

Wow - solid deal! I got the same specs but with a 970 for $750ish after coupon. Was also able to get %6 back through ebates so that will bring it to around $710 or so.

Basically the same tactic used to buy a latitude e7450 with an nvivida 840m gpu - look for the units with the 90 watt adapter instead of the 65 watt. It is frustrating the Dell is not putting the which GPUs are on the outlet units. I had to place my order and then call in to verify the specs.

I feel like you're not trying AT ALL. First off, the r1 is out of production. Secondly, you're asking about a specific city. Call around. Do some leg work.

that's just a crazy price. I'm buying in the UK.. We don't really have much choice there although I am in the USA until Jan 5.. How long did it take you from ordering to receiving the machine? The price difference is mind blowing at nearly 2,000 usd although you're not getting the UHD / 8gb ram / 6820/ pciessd /8gb 980m., even so that's max 950$ of upgrades so you're still saving 1100$..

The fact that you guys are getting such low prices is concerning for me for resale value and I think I'll try to return this unit. I should be able to reorder new at 15% off.. Without the overpriced 500$ UHD screen upgrade and 350$ pcie SSD I could get 850$ back there and go with a fhd screen. Thanks for sharing.

Just got my 15r2 with 6820 UHD 980 8GB and screen seems a little dim.

Anyone got a calibrated file they would care to share?

I may be calling for them to replace it. Its not to bad but still a bit weak, I have played with gamma and it just makes the screen washed out.

    Thanks.

I'm not really happy with the UHD screen myself. I am thinking I may save the 300£, return this and reorder with the 1080p screen.

The colors and brightness on the UHD are just garbage.

I have had really good experiences at the business outlet. Most of the machines I have purchased have been just like new. Even the scratch and dent ones look brand new for the most part. The 15 r2 that I purchased also came with a year of premium support with 1 year onsite service included in the price.

Yes, but weren't you talking about resale and holding value? These aren't units up for sale by private owners. Dell slashes the prices like they do on the outlet to sell units that they legally can't resell as new. As l9ng as they cover parts and labor on the end, they're happy.

If you look on ebay you'll get a better idea of what the units resell for.

got you. Just wondering if I can't find a better deal because the price differential is just huge. I don't like being this kind of customer but the UHD screen I've decided is definately not worth 300£, and the SSD upgrade is likewise disappointing. I think I'll return my UHD unit because they screwed up on my 8gb 980m, and purchase a fhd unit with no SSD. This should get me closer to the 2,000$ mark..

uhhh they arnt always at $1700.....(obviously prices change..) Like I said, a few days ago they dumped huge amount of units for between $900 and $1250. But at any given time you cant expect there to be hot deals on Dell outlet, the prices change, greatly at times.

Some were even Dell Outlet New, not refurbed.

Just keep an eye on the outlet when the coupons are released and check multiple times per day, I happened to be looking at the outlet when these dropped so I just picked the cheapest 240 watt one.

The one in my sig is new and only cost me $842 on account of a bad scratch and dent I got from the outlet, exchanged the scratch and dent and got this in return.

Just gotta know how Dell works.

Warranty is only 10 months by the time you will receive it. If you have any issues you will not be able to return it to Dell under the 30 day return policy as this has already passed; you will need to rely on the warranty service. The seller does not state if the warranty is onsite or not - you might be stuck with dealing with sending it into the depot. The seller does mention the warranty and has a good rep so you should not have issue with the warranty transfer to your name. If you are patient, you will find some good deals at the outlet over the next month or so with the holiday returns.

It's not bad. I'm also not a heavy gamer so I may not know better. I will say that trying to play in my friends well lit multiple glass doored living room at noon was very difficult to play falout during night scenes. I had to move into a darker room. This was an extreme example of sunlight, although not direct. Otherwise, I'm generally fine. In a room with a bright lamp behind me the dark scenes can also be a little difficult but far from bad. Honestly, 8f i had a choice for a screen with a higher nits, I'd get it. However, if the uhd 300 is really like 400 dollars nore, I'd say it's not worth it.

I'm sorry! I'm new to this site and my alienware but I have a problem.. When I got my alienware 15 R2 (late 2015) The bottom cover wasn't completely sealed (the bottom cover with the two screws that when removed, give access to the SSD, HDD, Ram, etc..) and I tried to force it closed and it cracked. I can't seem to get any support from Dell for a replacement part and I can't find it on ebay or amazon and anywhere for that matter. I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can find this cover? It's really bothering me as the laptop is fairly new

they are going to replace my panel. however the panel and motherboards are out of stock, said it would be around 2 weeks.

So anyone who orders a 15 with the 980 8gb or a 15 UHD is going to be held up a little longer it seems?

So I ordered a Samsung M.2 SSD and a Samsung M.2 PRO SSD, I was seeing if the PRO is really worth it-- I plan on keeping the games on the 1TB HDD.

Also, how do I go about moving my content to the M.2 SSD(copying the HD content and moving or just starting from scratch)? What do you guys recommend, any guides on switching over from the HD to the M.2?

Hey guy, just wanted to ask if how good is the battery life with the aw15?
How long will it last in continuous video playback before it needs charging?

Ye I thought about that also, so I bought a new spyder5elite arrives today and will see if it helps.

They also notified me yesterday the new panel has shipped so either way I will keep the spyder as I see it could be useful later on.

    Thanks again for you help.
