Its useless junk which destroys battery. Just use the battery normally. Make sure the temps of battery is under 60C otherwise you will have greater wear and tear. Don't game on battery for longer duration.

i want to add : limiting charge level on lithium batteries also increases it lifetime. i think that modding the bios can bypass the charge rate (watts) to reduce the charging stress and the charge percentage to limit it , but how to mod it is the question ¿.

@Vasudev @Papusan i need to replace my 15 r2 screen, the current crappy LG panel broke, im trying to find LG WF6 SPA 1 or SPB1.. or AUO HANO 4.2, but im not able to find it anywhere, asked more thn 10 sellers on ebay, they all say we will send u compatible ones, vasudev if u find any good link send me, im checking for WF7 series as well, sadly india Ebay is ripoff 10K for a LCD screen.. or i need some good 1080p screen with right side connector with good color gamut / nits..

thank you.. will check with them

I emailed them beforehand and they delivered what they promised. Still ahve that screen in a box. Removed it from my old AW15R2 after i had it sent back. I had the LG56WF1 glossy version.

Hopefully they might be able to do something for you. Those ebay sellers are imo a scam. Pretending thsy offer it but you will receive the lowest quality possible that just "fits".
-
Yeah i saw that.. the way they replied.. we dont have.. but we give u compatible ones, i asked which model, they whichever they have in rotation stock.. ill wait for mail from this site.. hopefully they can ship it.. thanks anyways..rinneh likes this.

Lord Zog posted long time ago... He debugged Dell's firmware. And pointed out what has to be changed. Dell didn't like it and instead almost trow their lawyers on him.
Put it like this... Asus, Clevo, Msi, Acer continue design or better say prefer bigger chassis (I talk about 17,3 inches size here). Alienware go alone and rather shrink the thickness. I talk about the bigger OEM's products. And Intel doesn't design Dell's notebook models. + Dell put in own oc profiles. Higher than what the other OEM's do. They already put in specs in firmware who is long way outside Intels own specs sheet. Of course you have to put a big part of the blame on Dell as well. What do you think will happen with cooling capacity if Dell next time aka next refresh continue shink another extra 5mm for better looking design, and on top will be the biggest boy in class and put highest possible oc profiles? The cooling won't be any better for sure. Have you seen the other OEM's who claim or advertice 5.0GHz? Yeah, outside Intels specs. And Dell is big in this game... They have own (thermal) engineers who is able to calculate needed cooling for all their products. Put the blame on Intel will only help Dell to come out of this mess.Last edited: Jun 1, 2018Vasudev and VICKYGAMEBOY like this. -
Asus was one of the first to claim the 5GHz OC with their latest, not sure about MSI. Havent seen it yet. But yet each and every model out there now has thermal issues. The Alienware 15 and 17's are more than capable to cool the 125~150watt Nvidia GPU's around a nice and cool 70~80c even with the hot VRM's next to it unlike the Intel CPU;s which apart from the i9's arent surpassing 100watts. A large cause for this, is that Intel is stacking the design to make the die smaller instead of more wide which is far easier to cool. The chip is also only cooled from the top so the layers on the bottom from the CPU are heavily heating up the top. Its just a **** design which now is very difficult to cool. It doesnt matter that the Alienwares are thinner, the heatsink is still on the backside of the laptop which is thicker. The Super thick MSI and Asus laptops cannot do it either. I have no other reason to blame intel for this. Also they have sold terrible binned chips to oem's which should be flagged as faulty.Vasudev and VICKYGAMEBOY like this.

Hey guys, my laptop screen died on me about a year ago, (I just leave my laptop plugged into my 65" 4K OLED TV now so things could be worse). When not connected to the TV the screen will still turn on but cycle through red, green, and blue screens. My laptop originally came with a 1080p screen but I bought a 4K screen and cable from Dell and installed it myself (where it worked for over a year until I went on vacation and either being lugged around in a backpack or 106 degree Las Vegas heat killed the screen).
Anyone have any idea what could be the culprit given that the screen still powers on and displays colored screens? Worst case scenario would be the motherboard right? Would a broken cable or screen give me these symptoms? -
hey.
I am looking for hdmi cable. I've noticed there are many versions of hdmi cable such as 1.3, 1.4, 2.0 and etc. Which cable should I buy for AW 15 r2 4k gtx 980? -
-
They pulled it for me too, coincidentally just after I flashed it and reported a bunch of USB-related issues on here..
-
there are lots of issues, not only usb, they need to update intel RST ROM. VBios, GOP, and offcourse to new power management system.. wish they release a good final BIOS with all the missed out stuffs and may be a new command center.. btw do anyone of u guys have PM951 SSD from samsung ? if yes have u tried the latest samsung 3.0 driver
-
I never updated to 1.4.4. Bios.
Old aw center is working fine after i installed some netfx sdks. It's fast now.

there is another way to make sure the command starts faster, is to block the .exe in outbound / inbound firewall rules.. usually it check for update before.. and forever loading times like 6-10 seconds. now its just 4 seconds.. btw which .net SDK u talking about.. i dint know u were on older bios.. i thot u upgraded to 1.4.4 also which INTEL RST rom ur on ??

It was posted the day Win 10 released the ucode update to all system called build 112.
I added new IRST module 15.7, GOP,ucode preview C6 but secure failed failed so it didn't flash. Otherwise the BIOS update would have been a success. -
how u updated ISRT module ? is there a way to do it inside windows or linux ??
-
windows and UEFI BIOS updater. I might try it today and if it works I'll let you know.
Personally I still feel 1.3.9/1.3.10 was the best BIOS. -
Yes just let me know after updating, ill also revert back to older bios from scratch. have to start from A00 revision or A02Vasudev likes this.

is there any 3000mhz ram compatible for the 15R2?
I want 16gb (8x2) -
Rather turn it around... Will bios support it? Nope.Vasudev and VICKYGAMEBOY like this.
-
even some 2666 ram with lower timing have issues, hyperx works fine, not sure about ripjaws or vengeance..
-
Look at hyperX impact 2400MHz. But, 15r2/17r3 supports only 2133MHz. Hyperx imapact has lower clocks for 2400MHz.
Only Kinston hyperx has same JEDEC and XMP timings which is a boon for locked BIOS.Papusan likes this. -
so bad that platform supports higher speed ram, but the OEM chooses not to use it.. a.k.a lock them all... and here ram prices are so high, specially the laptop kits..Vasudev likes this.

Hi guys
What app do I use to OC gpu? trixx and msi afterburner just goes back to default each time.
Specs are in my sig. -
You need Prema vBIOS to OC your GPU. Its unavailable at the moment.
-
So I keep fighting for my right. Nearly a year now and Dell came up with idea of "game compatible
" which made the cpu throttle when gaming. And then ignored the question when they were asked about official documents and evidence for that b*llsh*t excuse

So the tech from last time or before that scew up and forget to swap the cmos from the old motherboard to the new one so now they refuse to provide any more support.
Never buy anything from Dell againPapusan likes this. -
Buy a CMOS battery from Watch repair shop. Tape it and use the wire contacts. Or else look at ebay/local shop/old laptop.tungd678 likes this.

They contacted me back and apologized for the their mistake. They wil place other order and continue provide support.

I made a factory image on a usb stick when i bought my 15r2, i want to use it to go back to original state before my warranty expires. How do i initiate this and will it go back to original bios as well? Im on 1.4.4
-
1.4.4 is pulled by dell and 1.6.x is out.
You don't need factory image to claim warranty repairs. OS version is unneeded these days. -
I realize 1.6 is out im not refreshing to send the laptop in i want to clean out my laptop and use my usb stick. How do i start it and will it apply the original bios or not?
-
You can clean it yourself. Test every hardware using ePSA and test RAM sticks one at a time whilst swapping the same RAM on different module(s).
-
I am wanting to reset my computer using the factory image that i put on a usb stick. Will this revert my bios and everything back like it was new?
-
The answer is NO.. A bios update is different from just a OS image or backup.. Starting from bios 1.4.4 to the newest is locked meaning you cant roll back the typical way.. As what Vasudev said claiming for repair wont need any OS input.. Should be hardware.. You can do a clean install OS instead of the original image from dell but thats your choice.. Again the answer to your question is NO.. hope this helps..Vasudev likes this.
-
So guys, is the jury out about whether the new bios is good or bad ? Anybody has issues with the current 1.6.1 ?
-
We don't know how the BIOS works since its been couple of weeks and majority of issues pop up after a month or two. Basically everyone had exhausted their warranty so I'm afraid to test it.
-
So I got another replacement and this time they gave me 4720HQ+970M. This is the best motherboard so far as no throttle when running FireStrike. CPU runs stable at turbo clock after 1 hour playing Battlefield 4 (medium setting + 60fps lock). PCH temp is a bit high at 85°C. I has ordered some arctic pad and if I stack 2 1mm pad, will it help lower pch temp?
Vasudev likes this. -
Not really. Thermal pads are not heatsinks. They transfer heat but are terrible for dispersing heat into the air. There are pretty much only ment as filler and nothing else.
-

It will still help. If he puts enough thermal pads to reach the bottom base it will work. I've tested this. Might lower his temps by 5c depending on what temp it's hitting.tungd678 likes this. -
You add pressure on a chipnthat shouldnt be pressure by the bottom base. The solder balls underneath are already under stress from thermal expansion and contraction. You add extra physical stress by handling the laptop when handling it.
Pch flip chips arent the modt durable to begin with. -
propeldragon Notebook Evangelist
It will safe. Thermal pads compress. Unless he carelessly threw a massive stack of thermal that he jammed in there somehow and the screws were bulging out. There a lot of people who use metal heatsinks on there pch. It would be extremely unlucky to hit it in that precise spot. Like slamming it on a corner of a table? It would have to go through that aluminum base which is pretty strong. -
yes it helps a little bit .... you can cut with a dremel just abothe the pch, so you can add more pads like a sandwich or a copper hetsink
