    What game were you playing?

    The witcher 3 i get over 80º with the 1070 and i76700HQ.

Does someone got a guide for undervolting the cpu?

    Thanks!

Is that high or low 80?
Because to me those temps are fine.
As for undervolting this guide is pretty good just remember doing this has its own risks....

    Good Morning guys,

I have done some test on my new machine, on battery and plugged in,

I have played MGS V for 1h20 on battery (from 100% to 8% battery). The fan was running low and very quiet. Here is what I get on battery:

I had an hour break with the laptop then I plugged the power in and played around 1h30 the same game, the fans runs at max, very noisy and the temps are higher, here is what I get:

I don't realy get the difference, the perfs are the same, the game runs on ultra high FPS on both battery and power.

FYI I got this 15r3 3 days ago and I have only done an undervolt of -175Mv

I am interested in the R3's 120hz 400 nits panel
Is there any way to find the Dell Part Number for this? Also; does anyone know if the 120ghz panel on the r3 uses the same 30 pin connector as the 1080p panel on the R2?

battery allows the cpu to boost and remain to a higher power state even with low cpu loads, this create extra heat sometimes but your cpu is more responsive as it is ready to handle high loads without needing to spool up

I'm not sure on DP/N, but the cable is the same as 4K and FHD

Is anyone experiencing heating issues on the left side of the laptop (on left of the tactical keys, above usb)? I'm noticing very warm temperatures even when I'm working on it (Coding - not expensive CPU usage operations)

Sorry unfortunately there are no guarantees. It depends on the severity of the issue. For instance I sent mine in for presumably a dead mobo. It was recieved and I Was slated to recieve it in a few days from when I sent it off, eventually I got a 'parts hold' for about three weeks, part came in, repair resumed. out of no where they just contacted me on saturday saying that they want to request a full replacement of the machine so at this point it'll probably be a month and a half before I get a working machine. No rush on my end since the machine was a spare but if its your main rig then thats too long of a time. Again it all depends on the severity of the issue and if the parts are in stock.

Oooooh yea...lots... we have so many stories with picture and video evidence that we haven't released yet or made public. Hard core evidence. X-Files level stuff that will blow your mind and if made public could do a lot of damage. Just saying... we're not about that, because Dell is really trying so lets give them a chance and we are.

The culprit now are the monkey's at the factory.

Dell's outsourced cheapo home tech is not any better. The easiest way to remove thermal paste is a screwdriver. Some better? He lost his job after this :) Turn your eyes away for a second and the damage is already done!!

Thats partly dells fault though. They outsource it to companies that handle repairs for pretty much every laptop manufacturer out there. The more obscure your laptop, the higher the chance it will go wrong

You're welcome! If anything, it was more noticeable after repasting, as the heatsink was more effective at removing heat from the processor without ramping up the fans, which caused that section to be warmer than before.

Are you saying it was warmer after repaste ??

I am tempted to repaste, I'm a tootal newbie in laptop but with video and the dell diasemble guide it doesn't look so difficult. I don't have differential core temps but it is running a bit warm and the fans are very noisy at max all the time. After 2 hours of MGS V I get max temps 80 - 81 - 81 - 80.

I am scared if I repaste to make things worst or to get differential core temps after a mistake in disassemble the laptop...

The body of the laptop on the left side above the usb port was warmer, not the gpu / cpu. Its not too difficult. Just be patient and don't try to rush, after repasting, my temps are within 5ish degrees of each other and I max out at 71C.

There is a huge problem with people placing orders for 15 R3s with 1070s and instead getting 1060s. I am one of these people, but I figured that I might as well do some benchmarks on the computer. The following is a snapshot of temperatures of a 15 R3 with a 6700HQ undervolted by 150mV and a GTX 1060 after one hour of simultaneous OCCT and Unigine Heaven 4.0. CPU Temperatures averaged around 70 C:

The only game I tested was Witcher 3, where CPU temps stayed at around 65 C. If I had ordered the GTX 1060, this would have been a keeper with its insignificant light bleed and lack of keyboard or speaker issues.

I had a Dell In-home tech coming over a few hours after I saw this. I was pretty worried lol. He did however fully tighten screws instead of at least half turns... I usually do about 1/4 turns.

Just wondering, has anyone overclocked/changed timings on RAM using Intel XTU? I usually use the BIOS to change RAM timings and clocks but we can't do that on this laptop, so if I make changes to my aftermarket RAM, can they be reversed? Or is it permanently set in the software?

Supposedly yes and from the looks of it we're seeing the changes made to the thermal pads and real thermal paste on the CPU. However, there still seems to be some QC issues that need to be ironed out, which is at the fault of the monkey's at the zoo (factory) rather than Dell themselves here in the US.

We've submitted this issue so as soon as we hear back we'll let it be known. - Team LHz

No. I am a firm believer that this should not have to be done. I didn't buy a kit. I spent over $2000 for a product that should be 100% working out of the box.

    I got a 6700.

While I agree; I have never seen a good factory paste job from any manufacturer (Razer and Aorus are competent in application but still use garbage paste). Don't know why manufacturers can't program a machine to leave a measured amount of paste on the dies; we do this with a grease machine at work, and you ever seen the miniature chocolate chips? each one is almost the exact same size from a machine, that would be the perfect size for the GPU too. Most consumer laptops can get away with bad paste because they have low end CPUs and GPUs (if any at all) and they tend to be thicker unless they are a "ulrabook" (aka ULV).

So unless you are buying from a clevo/msi/gigabyte re-seller, who all apply their own thermal paste for $20 - 50, you really should repaste your $2000 laptop to get the most out of it.

We will have to agree to disagree then. I can see doing it maybe down the road but what they are doing here isn't rocket science. If you want to get the most with overclocking and messing with voltages, etc. go for it. I just want to get the laptop power it up and play a few games with good frame rates with no worries besides the occasional instability of windows. For me playing a game at 60fps with a good resolution is good enough. No need to push it to 70. If dell isn't up to the task, then they should get out of the business or send me the parts disassembled so I can do the whole darn thing myself.

People keep misreading. I AGREED with the post I responded to. That said you shouldn't have to

What I said: you shouldn't have to... but you should anyways (because its the industry norm to do either **** paste job or just use **** paste). Even if it works out of the box the stuff they use will dry in a year.

    Hi All,

I finally bit the bullet and ordered an R3 with a 1070 and FHD screen, I was wondering whether anyone knows whether a Samsung 850 EVO 2TB 2.5 inch SSD drive will fit in the laptop.
I am thinking of leaving the 250 boot SSD in there alongside the 1TB HDD and fitting the 850 Evo in alongside the other drives so that I don't lose any storage, I don't know whether I will need to remove one of them.

    Thinking -
    Samsung 850 EVO for games
250GB SSD for operating system (Already comes with laptop)
1TB HDD for photos etc (Already comes with laptop)

    Thanks,

You will have to use either the 850 evo or the 1tb 7200rpm hdd as there is only 1 2.5in slot and 3 m.2 slots.

Thanks, I really appreciate the reply, I will look at the M.2 SSD's, the Crucial MX300 1TB M.2 looks pretty good and should do nicely for the games.

    Cheers,
