Can anyone give me some dimensions information please?
I need the box dimensions and weight for the 15 R3, I mean the box/package it's mailed in, and its total weight, thanks !

Also, do the new Vindicator 15 backpacks fit the 15 R3 nicely?

Not sure box dimensions but the backpack fits nice. The computer fits in the pocket just perfect no extra room to slide around. The front main pocket is a bit narrow but I can fit the psu and a binder and have room for some other stuff on top or below the psu. I can also fit headphones in the front pocket with all that in too.

I took some pics too because why not.

I can stuff the power supply pouch down a bit more if I need to but I usually don't do it just sits there.

I'm considering buying the Orion one for flying since it scans flat and has a bigger main pouch though.

    Cheers man! Who's awesome? You're awesome! :D

That looks stellar. I was thinking about getting the Vindicator 17 just for the extra space but I think that 15 v2.0 one will do nicely.
My daily gear is usually the laptop, charger, mouse, headphones (big ass beyerdynamics), 1 or 2 A4 notebooks and my glasses case. It should all fit nicely I think.
Is it sturdy and good quality? I take it pretty much everywhere (haulin' 17" DTRs all my life, never skipped leg day!) Right now I have a Swissgear one which I love 'cause of how sturdy and high quality it is, but the Alienware is too wide for it...

It's sturdy. Great quality. Better than my Swiss gear. I have a mouse and some other stuff in the front pockets so you'll be fine.

If you want a bit more room get the 17. Looking back i wish I had because it's a bit deeper and otherwise not much bigger but I digress. I might feel different if I had both side by side though I'm not sure.

17 1.0 should be ok just find a place and compare dimensions. I got mine from Dell directly. For 70 I think. The 17 was the same price. A couple other places sell them too I just searched. 17 2.0 would work of course as well.

Did you try doing a power reset by pulling out battery cable and by holding power button for 1 min? If it fails, you could try unplugging CMOS battery by disassembling the motherboard.

So my new AW 15 R3 7820HK GTX1070 has arrived, one week after I ordered it.

What's the consensus on first things to do?

    How to check temperatures?
    Reinstall fresh Windows 10?
Not sure I'm bothered about overclocking, should I update the BIOS?

What's your plan when a new laptop arrives?

Have you tried re-seating the RAM modules and also cleaning he gold pins would help too. If all fails, it could indicate a problem with the board.( I looked up in Google)

Try re-seating the RAM as already mentioned - leave the mains power disconnected. If the unit it on (and looping) Hold down the power button until the unit turns off. Then - add mains power and see If the unit powers up ok.

The 15R3 foot print is pretty big and it is not that much smaller than a 17R4.

You can't go wrong either way, but go check out best buy to get a side by side comparison if you haven't seen them in person together yet.

As I was repasting one of my units last night...I used the excess LM on the spreader to paint over this aluminium block to show how it reacts...

It is often talked about, but not visually seen by many.

This is only seconds after LM came in contact with the aluminium block.

Power up>steam>download a game like dota and doom>download hwinfo or hwmonitor> play a game and if everything seems ok temp wise and fps wise >reformat and reinstall everything again.

@iunlock: If you've posted the image of Aluminium being crumbled after Lm'ing. Do you have that image, it would be helpful for newcomers to LM solely for the purpose of learning, what if LM was applied on Aluminium HSFs.

    Hello,

    I have a problem with my 15R3 6700HQ.

I had a tech guy to replace my MoBo last week. Since then it is acting weird :

-the brightness of the screen is always on max, regardless of the settings
    - Once every 2 startup the speakers go crazy, loud buzzing noise, impossible to mute it
    - Webcam and Windows hello do not work anymore
-The start up sequence is a bit different, it is quite slow and it says on a black screen for a while with just Checking media presence ... written, it was not like that before

And last on HWinfo64 it shows now as Computer Name Alienware 17R4.. (it's a 15R3 !)

Any ideas how I can fix that myself ? Is the new MoBo a wrong one ? Wrong firmware ? Cables not in place ?

    Many thanks guys

To each his own... I've been around and am around both enough to opt for the 17 due to the foot print of the 15. Just personal preference.
Whatever floats the boat lol... Can't go wrong with either.

Yeah I also had a 770DM and it was a beast. But it was almost twice as thick as the Alienwares too...
Then I switched to a P650RP and I do appreciate its lightness and footprint, but the 15".... Too small for me.

I was about to pull the plug on a 15, but it's already a big ass laptop, so I ended up ordering a 17.

Went through the same thing. Hop into the BIOS and go to the Boot section. Need to disable Legacy boot and turn the Secure UEFI option back on.

Mine showed 17R4 as system type too. I didn't want to deal with it so I requested a refund.

Yes, same mobo, but two different makers. Nothing has changed except the cpu and some chips on the board itself.

Haha, can't help but lol at your use of the word, "echo"... I get it, but as you've seen from my posts, I wouldn't call my 17 an echo.

From what the 3rd party tech told me and what I could see; yes. He mentioned something referencing why the chassis have that small daughter card that connects via ribbon cable. I was only half paying attention though so I could be completely off.

In the Bios Boot section I have :
    - Boot list Option [UEFI]
    -Secure Boot
    -Legacy Options ROMs

So I disable the last one Legacy but what is the secure Uefi? The secure boot to be enabled ?

I can't really elaborate on it anymore because I just don't know. If you want your old boot process back you need to disable Legacy Booting, and make sure Secure Boot is enabled. That is what I did to fix my 15 r3 that had it's motherboard replaced.

My screen was all screwey after the heatsink replacement at factory too. Wasn't recognizing 120 hz etc. I didn't get into boot options but the tech also couldn't fix it so I got a replacement too.

    Hi all,

i have an offer in my country to buy the

    15 r3 with :

7820HQ and 1070 plus 16gb, the question is:

Does it makes any difference vs the i7-7700HQ?

what about temperatures with actual laptops is still that bad as skylake?

Just got my 7820HK, 1070, 15" R3 and ran OCCT as well as a game. How do these temps look? OCCT looked okay but the game performance (playing Playerunknown's Battlegrounds btw, it's early access so it might be really unoptimized) temps looked worrying.

    And running Battlegrounds:

Ok I thought I'd chime in here. I have an AW15 R3 (6700/1070/120hz) built in Oct 2016. In OCCT I was hitting over 99oC after 6 seconds and it would shut down the test. Temps were around 15oC different across cores. After working with Alienware support they decided to give me a new motherboard, fans, and heat sink. Two days later parts were installed. I wasn't happy the tech refused to change the thermal stamp off the cpu/gpu die with the provided thermal paste from Dell. I guess I should have pushed back harder but I degress. I figured if it still ran hot he'd just have to come back and fix it again. Needless to say it's running 70oC under load with a temp difference of 2 degrees across cores. MUCH BETTER!

I also noticed like others have stated the new motherboard ID is 000000 and it thinks its a 17 R4. HOWEVER it does have the Samsung VRAM for the 1070! My last one was Micron VRAM.

I too would like to know how people have been able to get rid of the checking media presence on boot. When I change the boot order to windows first and NIC IPV4 second. I save it but it ALWAYS changes back to NIC IPV4 first and NIC IPV6 second, Windows Boot last...any Ideas?

Also for laptop bags? I just picked up a Swiss Gear SWA0918 and I'm very happy with how it fits snug inside without flopping around. Just a suggestion for those who want something other than the Vindicator line. Thanks to all the smart people on this forum! Looking forward to learning more!

Hi, after examining my new AW 15 there were a couple of cosmetic things that bothered me and I wondered if you all felt it was worth complaining or not?

There's a gap between the 'shelf' at the back and the plastic under the screen, it's worst on the right side (pic)

There's also a very small 'lump' on the left side of the laptop. It really is very tiny but as the rest of the surface is silky smooth it stands out a mile if your hand runs over it.

Finally just below the screen there is a shiny 'scuff' in the matt soft-touch plastic. Only visible at certain angles really but a bit disappointed with this being brand new.

Am I overreacting? Is the gap next to the shelf a worry like if dust and dirt could get in there?

    What would you do?

    Cheers!

Are you in the US? If not, what country?

I've logged this and have notated the monkey business. This is unacceptable so I would call Dell and get an exchange.

    Thanks for providing that.

Okay so I can tell you for sure that it's the stock gunk paste and chances are the CPU has the stamp like there is on the GPU.

When did you order your laptop?
