Yep the elite came out before bluetooth was added to the controllers. It aggravates me since i like the elite so much better.

I also have issues like everyone else with the dongles not staying connected too. My 360 controller dongle worked great, but i constantly have to plug my elite dongle in and out or pair the controller to it for it to work.

Man what a load of crap bahah. Alright at least I kept my nice white S controller so i can at least play without adding a big ass USB on the side of my beautiful device and worrying about that sync issue it seems to be having with everyone. So is it as easy as searching for a blue tooth device and just click on the controller ? I dont have my laptop yet as I ordered it 2 days ago but just wondering.

Mine is the FHD panel, so never had banding issues. Core temps on the mid november shipped one had a variance on two cores of over 20c which is substantiating the uneven heatsink theory. My new one only has a 10c variance which is totally fine. Gpu doesnt go much over 70c on new one and normally stays around 65c. I would return it if I were you. They are also now shipping the kabylake refreshes but I got the 6700hq/1070/FHD on sale for 1499 so I am happy as hell to have this performance in a laptop at that price.

It depends there are 4K gysnc screens, so we might just end up with a screen that uses even more battery if they go that route. Im personally hoping its not gsync, because i value battery life over that.

Id actually rather have a 4K screen on my 17 r4 then a 1440p one. The colors on the 4K as supposed to be way better, and it gives me the option to play in 1080p too which out the blurred scaling. The 120hz is nice for games like bf1, but 95% of the game i personally play i could care less about 120fps. I just hope which ever way they go its not going to come with all the light bleed issues. Idk which is worse scanlines or a bunch of light bleed.

You need to update the controller firmware first. When you get your computer, download the Xbox Accessories app from the Windows store. Plug in the controller via micro USB and let Windows install the drivers for it. Once that's done, launch the accessories app, and it should tell you there's a firmware update available. Do it; the process will take about 2-3 minutes. Once it's done, unplug the controller, open the Bluetooth settings menu, and initiate the pairing procedure. It should work just fine after that.

Ive been meaning to pick up a xbox one S controller to try the bluetooth, but im just to stubborn to buy it after spending $150 on my elite. Im assuming its the same as hooking up a ps3 controller though, that was pretty much click and go when i paired it with my desktop.

Hmm, Im not convinced it's a TNT panel, as viewing angles are to good for a TNT panel, and your less likely to get back light bleed. Also, colour reproduction is good (to good for TNT panel) anyway unfortunately I received my replacement panel today, same auo panel as before, so won't be keeping as bleed is worse then 1st panel and was hoping for an lg Phillips or chi me panel. Either way I've asked Alienware to confirm if it's Ips or TNT and requested another replacement or return.
If all new kaby lake builds contain the auo 1080p panel my advice is stay away as it's a step down from last years lg Phillips.

Then you must have a unique case because I have done so much reading on how to fix it. Many others are experiencing the same symptoms of random disconnections. Many have posted this issue on Xbox technical forums but no solution.

Rofl Just an update. When I ordered my 17r4 yesterday I did NOT pick the 17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display with Tobii IR Eye-tracking. I picked the base 1080p model that was included in the system. I go on my order list that I recieved today and it has 17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display with Tobii IR Eye-tracking checked off as the monitor and I did not pay anything extra and now I go to there website just to see if different panals are avaiable or what the hell happened. The base panel is no longer avialable only the tobii one is as the base panel included in the price but base price of the 17r4 is up 100$ ..... the hell is going on here ? haha Also My list has the 6700 down as the processor and now on there website it is only a
    • 7th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-7700HQ avaiable ...... what is going on ?

How long have you guys been experiencing the xbox disconnects? I have two of the adapters, and it's been a while since I used them, but I didn't have any drops.

I personally found it easier to play with the cable on my laptop.

I remember having issues with the 360 pad, but choosing the right driver fixed it.

I believe there was something in the windows anniversary update that killed a lot of things, the controller being one of them. There was a fix, I don't remember where I found mine, it's not what I'm linking here. But this should help.

    http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1258028

You should be able to Google yourself a fix. Just search windows anniversary update and xbox controllers.

I was wrong about the TN panel (HWinfo is not so reliable as I thought). It is the AUO B173HAN01.0 (I saw it on the label of the LCD), a 6 bit panel with AHVA technology that is NOT IPS but similar (I repeat, it is not IPS like I ordered). It is much worse than the LG screen. Plus it suffers a lot more of light bleeding.

Are you sure that you are changing the timer on the active power profile?

Guys, don't forget that LHz has an interest check thread going on for GTX 1080 heatsink upgrade for those who own GTX106/70 GPUs for Alienware 17 systems.

Be sure to submit your interest check below.

Nice way to kill your battery before time  Should not 240W be enough? Or is it a power cap aka a fixed max power draw from the psu?

    with the 6700hq and gtx1070 it's enough

with HK cpu and 1070 or above that's where the battery starts draining

What does it means? I changed it from control panel, alienFusion, and from the settings when I click on the battery icon. They are all the same identical setting.

EDIT: Found the problem. It was the 2.4Ghz wireless adapter of my controller. When I unplug it, everything works.

    Hello All,
Im am a proud owner of a new 17 R4. I picked it up from Offerup, brand new and sealed for $1000 from someone who thought it was the base model with 1070 and 16gb ram. I bought it thinking the same but it turns out I got the i7-6820hk, 32gb ram, gtx 1080, 1tb SSD, 1tb HDD, qHD 120hz panel, tobii, etc. Good deal?? The reason Im posting is I ran it through the Dell Support Assist video and processor stress tests and saw that the processor got to 78 degrees on one core, with another core sitting at 63 degrees, 15 degrees variance. The video stress test showed a max temp of 86 degrees on the gtx 1080. I called tech support and told me it is absolutely nothing to worry about at all and it is perfectly normal. The ship date of my unit is late December, I thought they had the thermal paste issues fixed by then. Should I be concerned? I just finished downloading Watchdogs 2 and can run it to test real-world scenarios, what is a good way to make sure I dont have a lemon?

Seriously, has anyone ever experienced that the Dell Updater / AlienWare Updater finds ANYTHING? Has never happened to me even though the website confirms there are new drivers available. Slam dunk victory for Lenovo here.

Any ICC profiles (color profiles) available for the QHD screen which is very blue right off? Also, any CONFIRMED news about Dell replacing the QHD panels with the striping problems with new ones?

Been searching around... Wondering if anyone has found a good 120Hz panel for their AW 17r4?

Sorry if this has already been answered!!

    Part numbers would be awesome!

I do have the 1080p monitor which also means an upgrade in resolution would require a new edp cable? Has anyone looked into the cost of these yet.

Anyways I don't mind 1080. Everything I have seen suggests refresh rate > display resolution

Would like to sit with a 16:9 unless a 16:10 is available and capable of 1920×1200 and 2560×1600

Again, I am sorry if this has been answered.

    Thanks!!

When I asked HIDevolution about the SSDs ports in the Alienware 17 R4, they said there are 2 normal m.2 PCIe slots and one shorter m.2 slot which wouldn't accept my 1TB 2.5" m.2 850 EVO SSDs

The question is now, what kind of SSDs can that smaller slot accept then? can you show me a few SSDs that can go in there?

I think it's probably a m.2 2242. The 850 EVO is too long. And I'm not sure the shorter M.2 slot is NVME, maybe just SATA?

There are few ICC profiles you can use here credit to this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...pro-calibration-profile.798361/#post-10390202. You might have to try them all to see what best suit you. Most do prefer the last one though like myself.

On the last tweet Frank@Alienware said that they are working with AUO to correct the screen between February and March.

Weird, tried to apply the ICC profiles like normal but nothing happened. Anyone else experienced the same problem? Having the GSync GTX1080 version. Do these machines come with something installed that interferes with the normal ICC color profiles?

Uninstall your audio driver using revo uninstaller and reinstall newest from Dell website.

Also check that your audio device is not faulty / plugged in to the wrong port.

Some perhaps promising news, my AW17 R4 replacement I just received has a noticeable better keyboard and touchpad than the one I returned due to uneven temperatures and CPU fan being faulty. The QHD screen also has much less obvious striping, even though it is still there. From the problem being visible even on the black bootup screen to almost not being visible at all from a normal viewing distance. I guess that we can mostly thank the Dell INSERT-ANY-COMPONENT-HERE lottery...

    Edit:

Actually, upon further comparison, the screens are probably the same and equally bad. Seems like Dell has some kind of color trickery with their default installations but when you do a clean install, this goes away. Keyboard and Touch Pad is still better though, and as it seems, the temperatures are better but not great.

I use Chrome but the problem is the same on local videos.

EDIT: I don't know if it's important... when I'm watching a video on internet, the swish stops with the beep some second after I pause the video; when I'm watching a local video the swish stops and I can hear the beep immediately after I stop the video.

EDIT 2: Same problem if I listen an mp3.

    Read the guide!!

Now, click on the Change system defaults button on the bottom right of the Advanced tab.

Then head over to the Advanced tab again in the new Window that popped out and check the box at the bottom which says: " Use Windows display calibration" and you will see the changes in color immediately when you do that.

I have experienced the same problem with dropping and charging the battery. It was 1.0.9 BIOS. Now I downgrade to 1.0.2 and it looks like the problem is gone. But i need to test it for awhile to be sure.

Regarding such issue, i did some testing with BIOS 1.0.2 and it didn't disappear, it's still there. I could not quantify whether more or less...maybe a little bit less. We will see after some time with new Nvidia drivers, drivers from DELL, firmwares, etc...

Ok, so some serious new developments with, at least my, 17R4. My R4 was doing the light throttle of about 200-300Mhz when hitting 93c-94c. It would drop down, cool off a bit but then slowly get hotter and drop again even lower. I called Alienware and they sent a tech who made it worse but using a entire tube of paste on the cpu and not spreading it out (wouldn't let me do it ether) among other things causing one core to be 10c hotter than the rest when they used to all be the same. I sent it in and when it came back it was running 5c cooler than before and even on all cores but would still do the micro throttles, it just took a little longer. I decided to keep using it since I still had time on my return period when, while playing RE7, a new issue emerged.

After playing RE7 for just under 2 hours it would hard thermal throttle down to 0.76Ghz. The max temp it got during the first time was 88c, the second max was 90c, but when it actually throttles its only at 84c. I called Alienware and spoke to a level 2 tech who told me that after using this CPU in this laptop for X amount of time it will throttle down to save it self and surrounding components. When asking him "So what your telling me is every Alienware 17R4 is essentially defective then as most people when maxing the GPU and high CPU get these temps?" He could not give me a straight answer and hinted that this was the case...

I am shocked that they could let this happen. And unless you are skilled enough to MOD it your self or have the money to send it to iUnlock, you are being sold a defective machine. This is crap and I am shipping my unit back and going over to MSI to test those waters. I am attaching two pics of the most recent throttle and one with it back down to normal when I went back to the main menu in the game. I hope no one else is having these issues and its just me. But after a very bad field tech, sending it in and being told its fixed when its not and now this. I do not trust it.

This **** reminds me highly about the first AW "Echo" models. What's your PCH temp? Or do you need to see pch temp in the Dell bios test software?

Just call the tech and apply the paste yourself. I did the same thing and it does wonders.

For that price there is no way I would give it up.

Temps don't sound too bad. You can use XTU to undervolt and that would drop them a bit. Monitor your temps while playing some games. In my opinion as long as your top core temp is not getting too high I would not worry about it. With undervolting mine stays in the high-mid 70's under stress test and in the 60's during most game play. Before undervolting the high was low to mid 80's.

Anyone know how the MSI gs73vr 120hz screen compares to Alienware 17" r4 FHD IPS 300 nits?

I'm debating if I should sell my gs73vr and get Alienware 17 R4 with gtx 1070.

    Question:

I've been getting these Adminstrative "warning" events stating something to the effect that "the processor speed is being limited by firmware" ... see the screenshot ... anyone know if this is normal behavior? I'm running bios 1.0.8 BTW ...

    Thanks!

I had the MSI GS63VR for a week. It's a nice sleek laptop but too flimsy and delicate. Weight was extremely light for a 15.6 screen laptop. I returned it and bought a Alienware. Build and quality so much better but the drawback it weighs a ton compared to MSI
