Thanks Gabrielgvs, however, when I click on his username (and even yours), I don't see "Start a conversation". I see an option to click on his profile page (which I did) and member info.

To start a private conversation with somebody you need at least 5 messages.

So, can anyone highlight what should be acceptable CPU temperatures for a AW17 R4 with and without OC? And I am not talking about the best possible when people who really know what they are doing have gone through the laptop in detail, but rather "if the people building it aren't complete idiots, this is an acceptable temperature" levels?

Either with OC or without it, it would be preferable that temps do not go over 80-85C. The components itself are great (though not without cons ofc), but underpaid labour shows up in this low build quality, imho.

Are those average temps over a period or max temps?

You can get a person's attention in the public forum too, by using the '@' method, like this @iunlock - then he can initiate the PM/Conversation mode. :)

Dear All, Today again I was in contact with Dell. I can't seem to find a lock that fits the security hole.. It gets through the plastic cover, but wont fit the Iron part of the laptop. Is there anyone with a lock that fits? Or is it a production failure?

If you have the Alienware softwares installed, you can *left* click the battery icon in the tray and select "Battery Saver" ... this turns off all the lights (and might reduce the CPU usage). You can also *right* click the battery icon and select "Power Options" which will bring up the Windows power options panel and then select "Power Saver" which will run the CPU at it's minimum state 100% of the time.

Finally, and most effectively, if you have the 6700HQ/GTX1070 machine, you can run the machine on the integrated graphics, when using general Windows applications and this will DRAMATICALLY extend the battery life. If you have that above configuration, then you switch between Intel integrated graphics and the discreet Nvidia GPU by hitting FN-F7 ...

    Best of luck.
