Alright, did a little more tinkering.
Temps continue to be pretty solid even completely stock. Gaming RARELY hits over 80c even after 20 minutes or so. Better yet, it's one of the warmest days of the years today - I'd probably have AC on today in the summer, but just hesitate to make the switch. Inside of the house thermostat read 75F, which is about 3 degrees warmer than I keep it in the summer.
AIDA64 of course destroys temps. 99 pretty much in less than five seconds. But Firestrike or TimeSpy? Nothing over 89. And again, gaming? Rarely anything over 79. Figure if a repaste can get me 2-3 degrees, and an UV can get me 2-3 degrees, I'd be really happy hovering around 75C stock for gaming.
Two issues, though:
1) Overclocks out of AWCC are very unstable. Both OC1 and OC2 (5 and 5.2 on 7/8 cores, respectively). While temps are fine, OCs so far have been pretty poor. Which is a weird combo that I haven't run into before, so I'm hoping it's just AWCC that sucks.
2) I'd like to use TS, instead, but I'm struggling to get anything to stick. Without a full Windows re-install (which I'll do later), what's the process to keep everything stock in AWCC without it resetting stuff in TS? Thoughts?
OH! EDIT:
3) I'm struggling to get the G-Sync indicator to work on my external G-sync monitor. At first gaming on it felt like crap, and I realized that's cause it was at 60hz. I got the res to 1440p and it's clearly running at high fps... but now my mind is playing tricks on me and I'm debating if G-Sync is working. So I turned on the indicator in Display in NCC, and it's not showing up. Thoughts? Is that buggy, or does that mean G-sync is, indeed, not working?
-
-
Maby you need to activate g-sync on your monitor in monitor settings??

Hey guys, which one of the two color option is less of a dust and fingerprint magnet? Which one do you think will degrade earlier?
I'm not a big fan of AW's rubberized coating so I'm hoping this one is not going be the same old crap they used to put in the old M17xR3. Don't want to be using a skin on a brand new system.

I'd say both have pros/cons. Black you'll see fingerprints on more, white you'll see dirt and dust more. Overtime I fear the white one might degrade slightly more. Just my opinion though. -
The white seems a little bit like a magnet to everything, such as hair and just random specs of things. You’ll find yourself wiping it often if you are ocd. Might bother some but it doesn’t bother me to much.

Got a call this morning i wasn't excepting.
A tech from Dell finally received the last missing part (motherboard) he called to find out the correct schedule to come to my house..
Seems to be a nice guy i think i can ask him to "transfer" the fujipoly's heatpads of the GC ram from the dead one to the new one and apply some Kryonaut i just bought.
Finders crossed but i think i got my AW area 51m back tonight !
I think i'm not going on a clean install again as the parts he's changing are the same.. -
I believe he plugged one 330w per port.
Wow they charged you $250 just for the cable itself? Can't wait to see their magic PSU in action.

Doesn’t seem like a rubberized coating this time around. 17R4/5 palmrest was a cleaning nightmare. This is more fingerprint proof, kinda hard/rough finish.

Wow, my replacement wasn't due to arrive until April 26, guess it shipped tonight and will be arriving in the next couple of days.
Looks like a lot of machines are shipping sooner than expected. -
Btw, I find this hilarious. The support guy on twitter told me he would keep me updated if there is any news regarding my laptop its status.
Friday I found out myself that the expected shipping date changed from 20/04 to 11/04
And yesterday morning did find out the status was actually shipped.
And still nothing from twitter. loljudal57 likes this. -

They cant even share good news lol.
I find even good reputable companies (even non tech based) have very poor communication today. -

Ordered a 9700k, 2080, 16GB, Samsung 500GB nvme and 860pro 1TB for $3,300 in Lunar white. Now, the hard waiting part begins. Ordered through xotic as they were $500 cheaper than HID for the same specs without the 1TB 2.5" SSD.
I've chosen for a clean install option and stock thermal paste. Will do that later myself if need be.

Guys, I'm supposed to get 3 games bundle, Battlefield V, Anthem and Metro Exodus with the purchase of a 2080 based laptop. Also, Tobii is running Division 2 game bundle currently.
So, will I get 4 games for free? If so, how so I redeem it?

1) AWCC is pretty much broken. Manual fan control does not work, and overclock only over clocks cores 0 to 5. Cores 6, 7 will be 300mhz lower by default.
2) you need to check the box to "apply immediately". There is also a config file in the installation folder. Make sure it isn't "read only".
Make sure you turn off AWCC overclocking.c69k and mattcube64 like this. -

Xotic will email you redemption codes or should. The tobii game should apply when you register with tobii. Congrats

Thanks, I'm stocked.
4 news games worth $200 sounds sweet. One more month with my M17xR3 680M, 2920XM beast until I pass it on to my 16 year old cousin. The beast stays in the family and only time will tell if the Area 51m will outlast this magnificent system.

Nice! I'm going to pass my M17x R3 to a friend, all my siblings are girls and they have no interest in my system haha. Going to miss having this robust port selection though
-
Hummm, that sounds plausible, but not sure that works on anything after the M18XR1. The Alienware 18 would not allow for the dual psu to work, but that also was not done in the fashion you mentioned. I guess we shall know when I get my new cable since i'm "assuming" it's a single barrel plug. The picture I saw seems to be still of the 4 pin tip.
If your idea can be made smaller than half the size of a flash drive, that may be a workable option. Depending on cost of course.
If you do that then they will register, but the idea was to only need to carry 1. I was testing to see if that were true. Now i'm more curious as to this cable from Eurocom and will it register 780W. i haven't seen any pictures anywhere. Have you?
I would not get to happy with that as it's not showing all the information correctly. -
Just got a message from Dell saying my new A51M will be delivered tomorrow, 6 days early. Ordered on 29/3 and delivered 10/4. I should be happy except I have to wait until the 16th when I'm back home to use it as I work overseas. Impressed with the delivery time though, hoping this one lasts more than a day.
SlickDragon and c69k like this. -
When Eurocom said they had tested that power supply, did they say they tested it without a 180w brick plugged in to the other port or that the 780w was the only one plugged in?
-
pathfindercod Notebook Virtuoso
No one knows at this time. Until one of us gets one. Eurocom is very quiet about it without any public details -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Now that would defeat the entire purpose. They specifically said it was to replace having 2 bricks on their Twitter. -
I agree, I'm just always skeptical of marketing like this where they don't provide specifics.
EDIT: All the twitter says is, "Eurocom offers 780W AC Adapter to @Alienware 51m model, so you can just use single AC Adapter for your RTX 2080 laptop."
That could be said of the any of the power supplies. It doesn't say it will support full computing power with only one power supply. Excuse me for playing devil's advocate here.Last edited: Apr 9, 2019raz8020, SlickDragon, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

Indeed, and I hope for their sake they actually tested it.
I doubt that they would intentionally mislead, because it would be a PR nightmare.
I'd imagine the first thing someone would do if these expensive PSUs dont work is send back for a refund. If they refused based off their shady language and partial power delivery, there would be some very angry customers. -
That's weird. My purchase order was originally delayed for almost 2 months after the purchase date, so I opened a ticket in the support portal asking for an explanation and almost inmediately I received a call from a Dell representative. Since that day he has kept calling me from time to time to provide information and details about the process, sometimes even with no news, just to keep up to date. That's something I appreciate a lot, it makes me think they care for their customers.
The representative has been kind and helpful, so up to now I'm satisfied with their support (I can only speak for the service in Spain).
I hope things keep going good when I receive the laptop on Thursday. Having read about all the quality issues from the owners in the forum makes me worry a bit. I hope I don't have to contact support for a refund and that my machine don't die burned.
First thing when I receive it will be to create a backup of the whole raid with Macrium. Second, undervolt the GPU and CPU. I will follow the Afterburner guide that Prema suggested for the GPU and a TS guide for the CPU.
For sure I won't flash the 200w vbios until the burning issues are clarified.
I want to thank you all for the valuable information that you have shared within this 712 pages in the forum.SlickDragon likes this. -

Man this thread has grown quite a bit.....got a question for you guys, when does Dell charge your card after the initial purchase/ when It ships? Asking cause after all of the delays I received the funds back early march as it didn't ship on the original date. Sunday I get a random email stating my package has shipped and received the dell rewards credit email. Well today my girlfriend tells me she signed for a heavy package. I haven't been charged at all. I just asked her to open the box......
My build was:
Lunar Light
i9 9900k
16gb
256gb
1tb
RTX 2080Attached Files:

In my case it was the same moment it shipped.
-
Oh that's another thing, dell or alienware doesn't have any client reps that contact you, you only have customer/technical support. For everything else, the line automatically says to visit. dell.be and cuts the phone.
Clearly support isn't offered in same quality over the different countries dell provides service for. -

For me they said it has something to do with FTC regulation in the United States. They cannot charge until the laptop is shipped. They place a temporary hold in your account when you order. For some the temporary hold will stay the entire time and changes to a posted transaction. For some the temporary hold will disappear after a few days because some banks/credit card companies do not allow temporary hold for more than a certain period of time. This can be misleading because people start thinking if their order is cancelled when they see the temporary hold disappear from their account.AllPowerfulArcadia likes this.

Does anyone know the dell part number for the AUO 144 gsync screen not the LG Phillips version - you will be able to get this info by your dell service tag
for those that have the auo panel thank you
-
VoodooChild Notebook Evangelist
Congrats on the system. How's the screen color gamut? You happy with it? From notobookcheck reviews, they had the LG Philips 173WFG IPS with a 508:1 contrast ratio and 61% AdobeRGB which sounds quite disappointing tbh.
I hope my system ships with a better panel.
Also, do you like the white colour? I'm still unsure if I should've chosen white or black. Went with white(it was $100 cheaper on xotic) but I hope it's not a dust magnet.

Also, someone should share the calibrated profiles for both the screens so that we users can enjoy it too.

780W Dell Cable
Well, we shall know soon enough. I do have one bought and paid for. Just waiting for it to show up.LoganWade, jclausius, ThatOldGuy and 1 other person like this. -
After all i got my laptop repaired !
The technician changed :
- The graphic card
- The motherboard
- The keyboard (i asked Dell to change from QWERTY to AZERTY, i paid something like 90€)
And the least i can say for the moment is :
"everything i working fine !!!"
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/35268583?
I didn't do any clean reinstall of the system as everything was running fine, AWCC kept the settings i've made (light 100MHZ OC on the GC & 10 MHZ on the memory).
Temperature are the same as before that mean very nice (40°C idle on both CPU&GC and 75/80 @ Max on gaming 94°C @ Max on CPU test on 3DMark :
I asked the technician to apply some Kryonaut i've order 2 days ago.
Let's cross the fingers now to avoid the same problem in the future.
I think that was maybe the graphic card that ended in "smoke" but i wasn't so sure because when all the "old" parts where spread on my table i tried to get as close as possible of the motherboard & the graphic card and i couldn't smell anything... i noticed a very little brown color under a MOSFET (grey component) on the power part of the GC but i wasn't that sure it wasn't as noticeable as other users on this forum with the same problem...
Seems like i'll never know...
Thanks to everyone here, i'll be keeping you guys up to date if my computer is still running fine in months/weeks........
....
...
.. or not !
PS : As a bonus i've noticed that the little Alien head behind the screen is now lit... i was 100% sure it couldn't turn on before... i think the technician managed to repair even this lil' problem

My replacement 51m is arriving tomorrow and I'm wondering if I can just swap the ssd I bought separately for my old machine, into the new machine without issue? (Already has Windows and all of my programs on it.)
Or should I just do a complete reinstall of windows? I did change the BIOS settings from raid to AHCI, so if I did just swap it over, should I boot the bios on the new machine and switch it over to AHCI first?
I have 2 USBs, one with just regular Windows 10 Home (October update) and another from Dells website that includes alienware software that I got by putting my service tag in the website and downloading.
Just wondering if it is better to do a reinstall, should I go with the base Windows USB or the Dell one?
Another quick question, since I already claimed Division 2 on the old machine, will I not be able to claim it again on the replacement? -
Division 2 you claimed is tied to your account. You don't have to claim it again. It will be in your account to download. -
Can you advice me some values ?
Can i do this with NVInspector ? -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Sorry. What I meant is, can I claim it again? Possibly have a 2nd copy to sell? -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Its all very variable. I would suggest around 1.025V @ stock clocks. I never use Nvidia inspector; I do not think you can use it to control the voltage curve -
You might if you create another new account when setting up tobii tracker. I am not sure though
