How much did you pay for this system?(I'm sorry if I missed it somewhere)
Also, what is the difference in performance between a regular SSD like Samsung Evo and this Dell provided 1TB (+8GB SSD) Hybrid Drive ? Is the Samsung worth the upgrade?

I wonder what would be the best 2666 memory to buy?

$4100, forgot to add the 330w adapter though. I emailed Donald regarding it.
-
Forget getting from Dell and use HID to get Samsung SSDs or you can choose w/o any SSDs if you already have one purchased during black friday sales.
BIOS update will be through WU. -
@Ultra Male we ended up ordering together afterall haha!
Canceled my Dell Canada order and ordered through HID!
Emailed Donald and he fixed up my order mistakes lol. (Too hyped during ordering lol).

That's the best thing you did. You see we don't know the thermals of that thing yet so it is imperative to get it from HIDevolution, let them test it and do their magic with their thermal mods.
In that case, you'd still get the Ultra Male Tweaks as well. Win-Win situation
Glad to be back in the Alienware Gaming Team man
I have 0 $$ of that man. I'm taking a loan. Seriously. Then I will sell my current laptop when I receive the Alienware to be able to survive.
Keep following my order thread, once they start building it, I will tell you what memory they will use as they'd test it to save you the trouble
Are you getting it from HIDevolution BTW?TheDantee, steberg, c69k and 1 other person like this. -
No I got it from Dell. Thanks for the info and will be looking out for what they use, I am thinking of trying the hyperx 2666, I have it in another system and its been fantastic.

So I am about to order this through HID but don’t see the rtx 2080, just the gtx 1080 with auto upgrade to latest. What does this mean ? Will it arrive with the 2080?

Yes that's how I ordered mine as well. Because that's how Dell has specced it but you will receive the equivalent of the GTX so in this case, the RTX 2080
Email [email protected] before you order if you want the NBR Forum discount
Also, if you get it from HIDevolution remember you get the Ultra Male Tweaks
1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, collecting your activities that you do on your computer, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Disabling Microsoft Edge from starting up automatically in the background upon reboot.
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the Classic Windows Photo Viewer from Windows 7
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Restoring the Classic Calculator from Windows 7
9- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
10- Complet.ely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
11- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
12- Disabling Windows 10 Power Throttling which limits CPU performance in favor of more battery life
13- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
14- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
15- Preventing Microsoft Edge from running on startup in the background
16- Restoring the missing default power plans in Windows 10 (ie. High performance, Power saver, and adding the new Ultimate Performance Plan)
17- Creating a system restoration image so that you can restore your computer the way it was after I have tweaked it within a few minutes easily!

Not sure if anyone pointed this out but there are some Area 51m bags coming out that you can order along with the area 51m. They only have pictures of the Gear Bag and they don't seem like they're sold separately currently. Maybe once the laptop is released they'll be available. I'll get the backpack most likely for mine.

So does HID get these systems empty and then they build into them or do they need to order them built from dell and then rip them apart for our builds? I’m a little ocd with my new Electronics and wondering if 0 fingerprints and original plastic covering is all there as if it’s brand new from the factory lol

I don't know you need to ask them but I wouldn't worry about fingerprints with them.
This image is from on of my old Clevo's that they built, notice the gloves... perfect thermal paste job. Quality at its best... that's their most senior tech *girl* called @thattechgirl_viv

I believe it would have ended up being approx $5700 at regular price, guy on phone knocked off about $500... I asked him to go lower, he assured me that's the best his supervisor could do....
Regarding 2400mhz RAM, some people are saying dell.com is only listing 2400mhz because it's locked because of some architecture limitations, does HIDevolutions 2600mhz ram overcome this somehow?Vistar Shook and Darkhan like this. -
My dell.ca order also says March 1, 2019. Im canceling it Monday once customer service opens though since I ordered through HID.
I will get it faster from HID also since it will be shipped to a USA address.
I imagine they buy the base model with your chosen video card/cpu/color and swap out to the purchased upgrades and do any purchased services like repaste etc.
Also I would not be worried about finger prints, I got a Asus Hero ii a few months ago that had the repaste and other upgrades done and it came 100% clean and free of finger prints. The laptop was lemon (not HID’s fault) though now I just avoid asus.c69k, Spartan@HIDevolution and XxAcidSnowxX like this. -

Congrats man! So many orders! Did you order it from Dell directly? -
Yup! and just used their 200 off coupon code I was torn between this and the new Aurora’s with the 2080 ti hopefully I don’t regret this route lol
-
So here's a question for you guys. I left my configuration at the stock 8gb as I plan on upgrading it myself. I noticed all of Dell's configurations only offer 2400Mhz. Do you guys think it would be safe to go with a 2666Mhz memory kit or should I stick with 2400Mhz?
Vistar Shook likes this. -
Yes, the ram will just run at 2400mhz. We will probably get a bios update in the future to allow it to run st 2666mhz. 2400 is the current limitation.
HID is selling the 51m with 2666mhz ram if that makes you feel better
Vistar Shook and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Well if that's the case I'll just grab 2666mhz kit then. The price difference between 2400 and 2666 is literally a few bucks. So not much need to split hairs.Lunatik likes this.
-
2666Mhz should work. Idk why this is an issue with their system or what's going on. Intel spec also lists 2666mhz so it might be a dumb bios issue that gets fixed later.

2667MHz should work out of the box on new A51M's w/o BIOS updates. It seems Dell blacklisted RAM modules or timings are giving them a hard time to fallback to 2400MHz.
Higher than 2667MHz I don't know if it'll work properly.
HyperX modules manufactured post 2017 and late 2018 with Samsung B dies should work just fine on any PCs.Vistar Shook, Darkhan and c69k like this. -

Agreed. After my A18, I got an Aorus X9 SLI, and I have to say those are greatest laptops I ever had. Sadly, SLI is less and less supported even in recent AAA games.thattechgirl_viv and Rei Fukai like this.

SLI was best (IMO) during 400/500/600 series days.
Even 700 series was fine but slowly from there it started going down hill.
900 series was the last gen with decent SLI support.
Although lots of games still support it today, just not as many back then.DreDre, thattechgirl_viv, Vistar Shook and 1 other person like this.
