My Area 51. Has a download limit set to 10MB/s for all torrent clients.
Do you guys know how I can remove that cap?
My internet speed is 200mbps So I should at least get download speeds on torrent clients reaching above 20MB/s
Any idea where to change this? I checked in the killer suite, saw low priority on the torrent client, changed that to high priority, but that didn't help? Does it have to do with profiles?

Happens all the time in the real world.

Uninstall that piece of trash bandwidth limiter Killer Networking Performance Suite and cap your upload speed to 100KB/S in your torrent app because if you have unlimited upload speed it will also choke your download speedsLast edited: Feb 26, 2019SlickDragon, Papusan, raz8020 and 4 others like this. -
Weird thing is, the suite is not in my startup objects and even if I exit the applciation the issue is there.
Now I tried setting my torrent client to the HIGHEST priority (which I Ideally don't want, because browsing should be higher priority than torrenting, but I don't want a download cap).
So uninstalling is the only option? -

Yes! We live in a world of super fast internet where even if you are downloading something while let's say streaming or whatever, Windows has a built in QoS Bandwidth reserve of 20% so other apps will always have enough bandwidth and 20% of a fast 100MBPS or more connection is more than enough for you to play a game or whatnot.
you'd have to use the Killer Uninstaller to get rid of all that junk!cn555ic, Papusan, c69k and 1 other person like this. -
Thanks a lot!
Worked like a charm, issue is gone. Back to perfect download speeds.
Also thank you for linking the tool. It removed a lot more than I would have using the programms and feature thing from windows.
Now back to Metro Exodus and Anthem!propeldragon, c69k and Darkhan like this. -

I really dont get why that after like 4 years, Killer drivers are still so problematic. This should not be an issue anymore. But now after each laptop that I buy, I remove the Killer wifi card directly and replace it with an intel card, purely for not even have to deal with these issues.SlickDragon, bsch3r, IXVIXXII and 5 others like this.

They have a long history of issues. Back in the days when I had an Alienware 18, installing the Killer Performance suite would cause BSODs for example if I was downloading a torrent, out of the blues I'd just get a BSOD. It was a well known issue on this and many other forums. This is the worst piece of software I have ever come across.
My MSI GT75 Titan came with the Killer 1550 but I replaced it with the Intel 9260 even though they're the same exact card just so the Windows store won't installer the Killer App from the Windows store automatically.SlickDragon, Papusan and tilleroftheearth like this. -
I ordered the Area 51M from them (paid for rush build, had them do a repaste with gelid gc extreme/use fujipoly pads, swapped the ssds for 970 evos -- I know I could wait and install my own 970 evo plus's or whatever, but I'm impatient). They completed it yesterday and it's arriving today. I know they have more stock coming in this week, not sure if they're all spoken for.

So question here about CPU temps. I've re-pasted with Kryonaut and turned off any overclocking and just left the fans at 100%. Using the x264 bench I'm still hitting core temps in the 96-99 range and same for package temps. Should I be concerned about this? I figured this big CPU would be up here but just curious. Should I turn on the "Overclock" to try and undervolt as much as possible?

9900k? If i was you i'd definitly go and undervolt it you won't get much better temps without Undervolting it.
-
Thanks!! I will give them a call when they open at 9 Pacific time. If they have them in stock and they are not all spoken for I may cancel my Dell order if I can get it faster thru HID.SlickDragon and Jaxigar like this.

Yeah 9900k. I've did the max undervolt (-.100), and using the least amount of voltage allowed (1.12v). I then capped the frequency at 4.8GHz (which under all core load goes down to 4.5GHz) It's down to the low 90c range. I may step down the frequency a bit more.

I do use my desktop for gaming and rarely ever game when I travel. I'm also familiar with the cables that you're referring to. I've had my fair share of seeing fried cables.
All this talk of the old school M18xR2's etc... brings back memories. As for the build quality I agree with you.... I can attest to the fact that clevo is nowhere near AW build quality and like you guys I've owned / own them both.Last edited: Feb 26, 2019ssj92 likes this. -
Alright, so I got my machine today. Great looking thing. Everything seems good, no problems. Screen is fine, no noticable bleeding or such. Very sharp too. No QC issues and SSD installation was a breeze.
Been installing the most important stuff, then testing a bit of gaming. At the max fan settings (which still is a far bit more quiet than my Clevo), I get about max readings 89C/68C CPU/GPU, thou that's after trying lower fan settings before, so a bit pre-heated. ;-) On silent I get max 100C/75C, but that's really silent tbh. The performance setting seem very balanced and will probably be what I use going forward. All in all - within expectations. Very nice machine.

When you say "nowhere near" that's OTT massively.
the M18x r1/r2 were great machines but it did have its flaws. The design wasn't greatly thought through, PITA to remove the GPU's, terrible clips on the mobos that were prone to breaking (couldn't buy replacements for years) especially at the hard drive connector side, the HD ribbon was also prone to splitting, overheating GPU's across the ATI and Nvidia range. I stand by my point, the only bit that was better on a like for like comparison with regards to the M18X vs P870x was the anodized aluminum chassis. I speak from hands-on 50+ m18x r1 / r2 systems since 2012, not just 1 or 2.
Both great machines and I like Alienware.
I am just unbiased and have had enough of them and been hands on enough to see the pros/cons.Last edited: Feb 26, 2019 -

Ladies & gents, without having to read all 302 pages on here, what is the current word on screens for this model >1080p? I don't mind the hit in fps, but I need pixels & cpu for my application.
Have cash / ready to buy, but I'm not buying another 1080p anything.
Thanks in advance. -

How does anyone in his right mind buy a 4K screen laptop?Rocktaze likes this. -

No other than 1080p to be offered in immediate future. They say it is a limitation of what's offered from their suppliers with "thin bezel design" -
Seriously? The mains lead on your PSU is causing FPS drops?
Obviously not the case. As if heatsinks grow on trees and they confuse them - they only have two or three. The heatsink design, selection and marketing would have been a rather big decision with many heads of departments involved, especially as it made it to the marketing department / public.
Yea I am with you on this one
They mentioned August due to the thin bezel requirements. They did not say exactly what resolution, or which firm is working on the new panels. -
I hope they offer FHD with high color gamut and high refresh rate, that’s way more important than 4 K resolution at 17” imo
SlickDragon, c69k, Vasudev and 2 others like this. -
I believe that if anyone ever looks at the AW17R5 4K panel and work with it for a few hours/days, they will never want a lower resolution or lesser colour gamut panel, unless they are hard core FPS players who can tell the framerate without an on screen counter.

I played a bit with TS to undervolt and raising the back of the machine for better airflow. Good results too...
At -139,6mV undervolt, I get 76C/72C CPU/GPU with performance fan profile (which is totally acceptable to both me and the missus). That's a little bit of amazing in my book.SlickDragon and raz8020 like this. -

Yes indeed. The PC felt much snappier and temps were down as well by 1-3C. With VSYNC not noticeable and w/o VSYNC you can feel it finds it difficult to push past 80C.
FPS was around ~3-4 frames higher. -
I just tried QHD and 4K, they look good, but text are so small that I cannot even see. On Linux, I see a spot in older distros w/o HiDPI support. Text and icons are very small just like ants.

This is why I don’t immediately buy new releases:

Finally arrived! I gotta give it to them, they managed to get it to me on the original shipping date, rather than the new one from after cancelling. Unfortunately I didn't foresee it arriving so soon, so my SSD and RAM is still on the way from Newegg. I guess for now, I'll check it to make sure there's no QC issues and maybe just admire how it looks.

Nah. If I repaste it'll be Grizzly Kryonaut. But ATM I won't repaste at all. Seem cool enough to me, and some of the fellas here reported minimal gains with repaste.

Was going to purchase the 51m through HIDevolution but saw the reddit post. I understand that it may be silly to think personal opinion could affect a professional service, but considering the purchase is 4-5K and a lot of money, it really doesn't feel great that the head feels this way about the product.
Anyone have any more thoughts on just Dell vs. XoticPC vs. HID? XoticPC is still definitely the best value, and I still haven't heard any real downsides or problems yet from folks. Looking for speed of delivery and a solid job on the internal mods/repasting.Rocktaze likes this. -

While @Donald@HIDevolution has decent tech knowledge, at the end of the day, he is still one of their sales team. He never will touch the system.
His personal opinion on the product will not affect their professional services on any build (which are really good).
Xotic is good, but slow in my experience. Only got one device from them to compare though. Their mods held up fine.raz8020, steberg and SlickDragon like this. -
Not written but Frank Azor said you need their special thermal paste to not void the warranty. He talk about it at the end of the video. But as we know both he and Umar not always speak the truth.
Thats correct but remember he have an good dialog with his own tech team.
And some of us know the test results from Area-51m long time before it was released.Last edited: Feb 26, 2019 -
Great, you make my choice much easier. LM avoid warranty? I build a desktop. Azor can go f himself

These warranty void rumors are really making me second guess even buying from dell... sucks because it’s been built and should be getting sent out here soon....

Considering that PSUs are meant to work with wide ranging voltages and voltage fluctuations, from <100V to > 240V and with phase changes and whatever frequency, it is surprising that an inferior mains lead would cause issues. At 240V the 330W PSU would draw, say, 420W from the wall, in the US that would be around 3.8A, in EU it would be like 1.9A and in the UK maybe 1.75A. This is such a small current, I could use my bedside lamp cable in the UK and never know a difference. I am suggesting something else is to blame, unless of course you also believe that OFC speaker cables positioned across the earth's magnetic lines make a noticeable difference to your listening experience
I have no experience with QHD, however at 4K you just set it to 200% and it is glorious. Text looks like the most expensive type print font, imagine you have 4 times the amount of pixels per character on screen. It makes text on the 1080p screen look like those SEGA arcade machines from the 80s.

You can likely resolve this issue by clean-installing the latest version of the Killer Control Center, following this guide - http://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/clean-install-killer-control-center/.
I see that you have uninstalled the suite, but please be aware that most manufacturers are now pushing the Killer Control Center through Windows Update (sometimes older, problematic versions) so I do suggest either updating the suite so that you can enjoy the full benefits, or removing it and installing the blocking driver that we provide here - https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/how-do-i-remove-the-killer-control-center/.
Thank you for the tag!

That post got me confused. So if the product is so bad I feel like they should just not sell it. Otherwise what is the purpose of doing business with a company that dishes a bad product? It just screams of sell out.
I've worked in retail before and I've learn to maintain level headedness on products despite them being of lower quality or having glaring flaws. I do tell my customers what is wrong with such but at the same time I make sure to also provide them of the stand out qualities or benefits if you buy the product.
I know his opinions do not reflect the companies but I feel this makes you doubt reaching out to them.
Personally I am curious about what he suggested but at the same time I can't help but be skeptical if it's a sales pitch to make me buy that company's items or it's a sincere suggestion. If he suggests the EVOC, I'm curious about the build quality and the quality of the panels on those systems.Last edited: Feb 26, 2019
