I made some progress with booting beyond 2933mhz tonight. With BIOS 1.6.0 I could finally train a custom profile with my HyperX 32GB Samsung B-die kit at 3200mhz 18-20-20-40 1.2v. Sadly the OLOy 64GB kit (SK Hynix) was not able to train using a custom profile even at 3200mhz 22-22-22-52 so maybe Dell is still matching Kingston/ADATA as the module manufacturer string during memory training and rejecting anything else with speeds above 2933.

What is the difference between the K and non-K cpu's in terms of speed? I see that the non-k has slower base speeds but wouldn't this be irrelavent since the cpu just boosts to its max speed during processing? The K boost speeds are not that much more than the non-k.
-
The letter designations given to intel processors goes this way:
10700K - the K means the processor is overclockable; they're designed to sustain the boost in speeds as the ceiling is a bit higher(will have to delve into this a bit more on your own; not much of an overclocker myself)
10700F - there is no onboard integrated graphics(ie Intel UHD Graphics 630) so you would definitely need a video card for display
10700KF - overclockable and no integrated graphics
10700(K)A - if you see this dont buy it......it's just a Marvel Avengers branded processor not worth the price unless you're a huge fan
Hope this helps.jc_denton likes this. -
According to Support Assist, there is an update available for my Area 51m R2 which fails on every attempt I have made to install it. The update is the Alienware OC Controls v1.3.13.1300. Is anyone else having this problem?
Also, I'm having trouble with a Windows update 2021-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB4601319). Windows keeps telling me I need to restart to apply the update but after restarting the message reappears constantly. I have already restarted 8 times! -
A none K Cpu can't provide prolonged max boost clocks (lower TGP). And with an locked bios as from Dell you can't do much tweaking to make it run better than default. And you can't run ram sticks at 3200MHz in this Dellbook.
Skip it until they can provide a patch without flaws/bugs http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/windows-10-20h2.830339/page-61#post-11082621Last edited: Mar 8, 2021jc_denton, raz8020, Normimb and 1 other person like this. -
Ok, so how do you skip it?
At the moment, it keeps on wanting to restart to install an update which, according to Windows properties, it has already installed. -
A Dell tech solved it for me. She installed the preview version on top of the full version and that solved the constant restart issue. It appears the preview version contains files that are required by the full version.

Has anyone had issues with the battery? I had mine unplugged and was using it for a while on battery to discharge it a bit. I had CPUID open and was monitoring the battery levels. Once I plugged in the chargers, the wear level dropped from 13% to 16%. I've read somewhere earlier in this thread that there is a setting to prevent wear on the battery. Has anyone else experienced this? I've owned this laptop coming up on 6 months and find that's a pretty drastic drop in such a short space of time.
As an aside, is the 90Whr battery available to purchase from Dell and has anyone been successful getting one? -
Make sure you set in bios custom profile for battery. i did start charging at 50% and stop at 85%.
this way wont do charging cycle and it doesnt wear the battery out!Papusan likes this. -

You can set in the bios the battery to only charge to 80% and only start charging once below 50%. Otherwise you can just disconnect the battery from inside if you don't use it much. -

Very smart move bro ratchetnclank. But I wouldn't jump on regardless if 1, 2 or 5 flashed it.
Yeah, never trust firmware thrown out by Dell to reduce RMA costs due fragile hardware.
I put out a warning in here but not all want to listening and below you can see the outcome when people jump on the unknown.

Why am i surprise? Dell is now using a different strategy to cripple our system.
We asked for lower temps and they delivered (sarcastic). WOW that's great. Thanks for the link.
I have an issue with my car: it overheats when i WOT. The dealer fix it. They glued a tennis ball underneat the accelarator pedal.
I asked they delivered. Great world. (this is a joke) -
I don't know why so many people trust what Dell tech/engineers say or will do. You all will either be disappointed or risk hardware failure http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ews-and-advice.429972/page-1150#post-11084612
Much better use own common sense. -
SSD run very hot on my previous Area51M r1 and also on this Area51Mr2. I had to purchase a different heatsink and add some cooling pads to keep the ssd (S) under 75C
Dell's engeneer can be trusted......we can trust them to give us bad working software (AWCC, Support assist etc...) and eventually trust that they will reduce the performance of our system with updates.normand668 and Papusan like this. -

Question concerning the keyboard on the A51m R2. On my previous AW17 R4 I had 5 macro programmable keys on the left and another 4 above the number pad. It seems Dell have stripped away the 5 on the left leaving me with just the 4 above the number pad. On the R4 you could program them from within the Command Center but I can find no such option in the A51's Command Center. How do you program the 4 above the number pad please?
-
AWCC. Go to fx and click on the keyboard icon on the far upper right, then click on macro on the far upper left and finally select area-51m advance from the pop up menu. Hope that helps. Travis
-
In AWCC go to FX tab.
Then hit Macro.
Then enter a name for the macro, then create the macro (now create your macro and save)
Then click and drag the macro to the desire macro button. Save.
Done. -
Thanks. That works but it's much more difficult than it was on the AW17 R4. I guess Dell's motto is "Why make things simple when you can make them really complicated?"Normimb likes this.

Lost my windows key today. Installed some updates last night and today windows key not working. The onscreen keyboard windows key works just not the hard button. Don't know if its update related or hardware related. Ran powershell command to fix it and it still down. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas on a solution aside from India tech support?

I really need help i have area51 mr2 with 2070 super and i7 10700k I brought 3090 and used egpu everything works but I’m getting much worse performance over 2070super build in? Is it cpu bottleneck or tb3 connection? I’m about the sell laptop and build desktop if there is no benefits at all from egpu? Thank you

Are you using an external monitor of the internal display. The loss is less on a external display i believe but even still a 3090 will be bottlenecked across tb3 on only 4x pci lanes. -
i use the internal monitor. I got only 60fps on 1080p gaming that’s crazy I’m getting 200fps with 2070 super I’m going to try external monitor but I don’t think that’s going to help :/ thank you for replying!

Hello guys! can someone please help me with Nvidia update black screen.
I've received my area 51m r2 couple weeks ago with i7-10700k, 2070 super and 4k display. and I couldn't update Nvidia drivers since then.
Every time I update it, I get a black screen with unplugging windows sound... I also tried updating to a slightly older version (456.71) it worked at first but as soon as i turned off windows HDR I got a black screen again. I also tried cleaning Nvidia drivers with DDU but to no avail.
Am currently stuck with 451.67 driver which came with the device, and I need a newer driver to use latest version of octane render.
ps: I connect to an external monitor after getting black screen, and everything works fine in the connected monitor. -
[QUOTE = "caglar turk, post: 11084792, membre: 738253"] J'ai vraiment besoin d'aide J'ai area51 mr2 avec 2070 super et i7 10700k J'ai apporté 3090 et utilisé egpu tout fonctionne mais j'obtiens des performances bien pires par rapport à 2070super build in ? it is normal the egpu box manages badly the rtx3090 for the moment -

When you try to use the AGA with the built in laptop monitor it has to use all the channels to send both directions so it cuts the throughput in half. You will have poor results this way. The AGA is only an upgrade with this laptop when you use an external screen. I use it with my 51m R2 10900k 2080S and a 2080TI in the AGA. Its about a 10-15% improvement about exactly what the tests show it should be between those 2 cards.
I am curious what you did to get the 3090 RTX to fit, much less work in it at all... Most people haven't had any luck yet with them. Is your EGPU an alienware graphics amp using the AGA port on the laptop? or is it another brand using the USB C Thunderbolt port? The thunderbolt port shouldn't have as much bandwidth as the AGA port if I'm not mistaken. -
I’m using tb3 connection with razer core x egpu insisted is gigabyte 3090 it’s fitting fine just terrible performance
-

Did you manage to try with an external display yet? -
I will try it tonight let you know how it performs! I doubt it’s going to be better than 2070 super inside
-
if is not connected to alienware proprietary port you will not get better results due to 40gb/sec bandwidth of thunderbolt 3!Justin Stuever and normand668 like this.

Which BIOS is the best BIOS based on your experiences with the Area 51M R2?
-
so I've made a factory reset to get red of all updates and start fresh again, and managed to install latest nvidia driver without getting a black screen.. but as soon as I turn off windows HD color I get the black screen...
I would have kept HD color all the time, but it turns off as soon as I unplug the ac adapter which leads to a black screen
still looking around for a fix. -
do a clean reinstallation with a iso windows 10 pro ! in my experience factory reset never fixes the problem! do not install the windows home is to clamp to death!

Does anyone have any news regarding the compatibility of the i9 11900k processor with the r2?

Anyone take a shot at the 1.7.0 bios yet? I'm still waiting for someone else to guinea pig it lol
-
I was on bios 1.6.0 and had an issue with WHEA errors in HWinfo (later found out it was the Killer Lan driver) so i decided to dowgrad to bios 1.4.0. To my surprise i didn't need to use a usb key and go to the complicated procedure of downgrading bios. Maybe if we test 1.7.0 we can downgrade easely but i have no garantee. I will not be the first

See if you kept all your access in AWCC fusion tab. Can all the slider be moved as before?
Can it still be undervolt?
Thanks for testing. -
