Has anyone tried to flash a vbios with higher powerlimit to a recent AW model, e.g. the GE76 vbios to the X17? As I understand the X17 uses 120W + 45W if cpu allows while the GE76 uses 150W+15W. So in certain situations the gpu powerlimit of the X17 seems really constraint. I know this cross flashing can be done with other vendors but I fear AW is again quite locked.

You can use the M17r4 Vbios. This is 150+15w and should work with the x17.
-
Hey folks. Can someone check if the X17 can accept double sided SSD's or is it only single sided SSD's. I checked the service manual and it didn't specify. Thanks!
-
To me looks like a standard m.2 slot, how can we know that?
-
-
Unsure how you can visibly inspect it, as I watched some reviews where people opened it up and I cannot tell. You would have to install a double sided SSD to really know if it would fit or not since the Service Manual doesn't say anything.
Has anyone installed a double sided SSD in the x17 yet? -
What's current top timespy graphics on the 17 3080?

Really good temps

Just got a reply from Dell, looks like there is currently a shortage of the 4k panel.

Which BIOS Version do you mean? I can only see the last Update from 1st of July.ekkolp likes this.

I mean it is the latest . Look at the video from 6:00 and you can see 1.1.2 show up in Hwinfo and he talk about it.

Okay, he already replied to his Video. He was not aware that XMP needs to be enabled in BIOS.

Let me guess: 360Hz panel or external monitor, hacked 150+15W vBiOS, ambient temp around 20C or better, repasted iwth LM, and running on a massive cooler (+full GPU and VRAM OC of course)?

These scores are also possible with the 4K Panel Version (hooked to external screen)
here is my score:

Never buying another Dell ever again. So supposedly my X17 shipped last week but the tracking numbers they sent me always said awaiting pickup. Then after more conformation emails that it shipped today received an email stating it got delayed and I either have to agree to another delivery date of August 13th or it will be automatically canceled. So they lost my $3200 laptop. Screw Dell.
-
Nope. Thats the i9
Why pay more for the unlocked i9-11980Hk in the x17 when you can come on top with the cheaper i7 ?

Yep, one out of two. As I said in my previous post... Either user errors or Dell cripple your ram sticks -
Did they send you the correct thermal shield in the end?
-
Tomorrow is coming UPS… Let’s see if 3 times are enough for Dell to send the correct shield.
-
Is that a joke? As if they wanted you to cancel the order, since you had to "opt in" to not having your order cancelled. Unbelievable. Meanwhile someone else got their institutional order shipped in days...
-
Update: My order has been delayed until the 13th of September
-
Does someone know what's the part number for the 330w powerbrick?
-
In other words: So mainly the same procedures anyone does for serious notebook benching regardless which brand
-
...you know me bro, had to get the i9 anyway, I can´t help it...

The part number is:

Serious benchmarkers (presumably a few% of all users) might do all that, but many people might see the score and rather incorrectly assume the result is achievable with a stock 4K screen model running element 31 and original vBIOS on a bare desk in the middle of the summer with no A/C

Gross. What was the ETA given at the time of purchase?
-
11th august, was supposed to be shipped on the 31st of july

Unbelievable. A it's like preordering a GPU from EVGA, except EVGA are honest about the stock levels and delivery schedule.Starchies likes this.

I bought it as a tax return gift for myself for July now I'll get it as a birthday present for my self in September lol

Nice one! So just to confirm you messaged @DellCares on Twitter asking for a second thermal shield part no: C99KM and they sent it for free?
-
Yes, I told them via Twitter @DellCares I wanted to install a secondary SSD and the heatsink didn't come with the laptop, and either show in the webpage even for purchase, so they sent it for free after giving them my address.

So what else can Dell crap out when you threaten to cancel your order? So not only did Dell magically find my missing X17 yesterday but by 8:30 am this morning it was sitting on my front porch. This after telling me at noon yesterday to agree to another 2 week delay. I told them no way and to cancel. I received another email from them telling me they were gonna try and fix it and by 5:30pm yesterday the fedex tracking number changed to picked up. So this morning I swapped out the memory, replaced the cheap ass SSD's with my 2 Samsung 980 pro's, and did a clean install. This thing wouldn't even see the lan connection until I installed the drivers. And now I'm typing this on the X17. The power brick is HUGE! I can say that it is not a tight fit inside and I bet I could get away with a 2mm heatsink on the 980's instead of the 1mm I installed. I'm glad I went with the cheapest memory and SSD options because the stock stuff is garbage. Even the stock SSD heatsink is garbage compared to the one's I purchased from Amazon. So instead of waiting for them to become available for my 2nd SSD I'm just gonna keep what I got. The stock M.2 SSD which was in the PCIe X4 slot is only X3 capable. And that makes a huge speed difference when swapped for the 980 pro. One last thing. The gel pad under the stock M.2 heatsink was poorly applied. It had large bubbles.

Congrats, so you made it at last. Mine is coming tomorrow. Which DRAM sticks did you install and at what speed do they run?
-
Are you able share a link for the ssd heatsink that you bought from Amazon? Also have you swapped out the ram as well? If so which ram did you replace it with and could you share the link for that as well? Cheers
-
Haha, shady a. f.!
-
True. But you don´t really think the top spots (MSI, Clevo, Lenovo) don´t use the same pimps including Prema Bios on Clevo, It´s an apples to apples comparison between the brands at the top. And the X17 despite its thinness holds up quite well. I will get mine (360Hz screen) tomorrow and unfortunately don´t have the time to pimp it in the coming weeks. I try to post some numbers by the weekend without repasting or vbios modding.
-
Clearly it's not an apples to apples situation if one laptop requires LM application to achieve top performance, while another comes with factory-applied LM, or if one laptop requires a vBiOS mod whereby another doesn't.
-
Putting this issue to rest. The Kingston DDR4 3467 ram I bought from Dell is CL 22

Need for vbios mod is not verified at this time. Let´s see what my stock numbers are. I will LM it when I have the time, cpu and gpu. And I prefer to do it myself compared to ASUS stock LM on CPU.
-
3DMARK installation was a lot faster then 4 years ago on my old desktop with 6950X CPU and Samsung 940 pro SSD.
-
Anyone know what might be preventing AIDA from being able to detect memory? Just getting zero's.
-
Running overclock profile 2 with fans at maximum. BIOS overclock tweaking off which is an option for 2 profiles.
-
This is interesting. You can adjust the same overclock settings in the BIOS as the Alienware command center.
-
Very low random 4K whrite speed.
Maybe start with stock clocks. The physics score is disgusting. Check temps. Make also screenshoot of "show all monitoring" in the main windowraz8020, captn.ko, Rei Fukai and 1 other person like this.
