Are there any reports of these drivers causing graphical glitches in general?

I just called and they said that the part is not in stock and won't be in stock in the US for a few months. Told her that was total horse 5#!+ and that someone received the part already. looks like the part number is on there if you click on the pictures. I am going to try warranties and see what they say.

Darn I really need to get one of the m.2 heatsinks as well. Even just the single m.2 one would do, I guess check eBay for similar parts?

These work great. I put them in my 17r4 with double sided heat transfer tape instead of the thermal pads to keep the height down. Dropped my ssd temps by lik 20-30c.

Which type of heat transfer tape did you use?

I was thinking of getting some of this:

I put liquid metal on my CPU and GPU. Definitely worth it. Speed shift on 0 now, -.0150mV undervolt and Temperature barely goes above 70°C while the fans are quiet as hell.

I can confirm we can't update to the latest Nvidia driver or Intel gpu driver. Neither one wants to install, I imagine they haven't put this Alienware model on the whitelist yet...

Have you tired editing the drivers INF to get the standard driver download from nvidia to install? is it even possible on this model?

This is strange. I'm on the latest driver, 417.01 without an issue.

Did yall do a reinstall or update Windows? I have seen before having a Windows.old folder can impact this somehow. Maybe remove that if you have it?

If that doesn't work, then best to start over from scratch. This is what I'd do, and is definitely redundant to a degree but its Windows so...

    1. Uninstall GeForce Experience - reboot
    2. Fresh install GeForce Experience - reboot
    3. Uninstall your Nvidia drivers. Best to use DDU, but you can do so via Control Panel. DDU is easier and more efficient, imo - reboot
    4. Use GeForce Experience to install new drivers - reboot

If you're still having issues, check out Event Viewer (search eventvwr) to see if there are any errors. Most likely these will be under the Application level, but may also fall under the System levels. Feel free to paste here what errors you are getting, but Google is your friend. Most errors I've solved from there have come from a Google search.

Uninstall drivers for both with DDU and after directly install the respective driver packages. Windows update and or dell drivers are cannot be updated with the original drivers.

    Hi All,
Just wanted to post an update to my ongoing saga. I ordered my M15 with the following specs on 11/7/2018:
    Windows 10 Pro
    i7 8750H processor
    16 GB RAM
    FHD 144 HZ Screen/Nebula Red
    GTX 1070 MaxQ GPU
    512 GB SSD
    90 Whr battery
Originally set to arrive 11/27/2018. Order was canceled and redone on 11/8/2018 due to a dell issue with a new delivery date of 11/28/2018. Order was canceled on US Thanksgiving (11/22) and reordered due to a dell issue with a new delivery date of 12/11/2018.
Just got an email with tracking information. The tracking is not updating yet, but if it's anything like my wife's PC, it should be here on Monday, 12/3/2018, a full 8 days earlier than I expected! Either way, this is great news in my book. Thought folks who are waiting might want to know!

Were you the one who ordered yours with Windows Pro, could that possibly be the differing variable? I know at least one Pro user wasn't having the windows problems that Home users were.

Because the CPU and RAM isn’t fast enough. You need lots of grunt to push what use to be the normal 60 FPS and get near 99% GPU utilization.

I use to demonstrate this with a 7700k at 4.5 and dual channel 3200mhz memory. I took those videos down since they were not too popular. But you could easily maintain very high GPU usage while scaling in-game settings to achieve higher frame rates.

All testing done in CPU intensive games such as BF1 64p Conquest.

But my aorus x7 DT with a 7820hk could keep up and the CPU wasn't taxed that much, it did have a 1080 though but it never reached above 70% usage either... I'll have to look into it. What's the max ram speed this laptop can take? Maybe faster ram can help?

That’s a great CPU but pushing for those high frame rates with high GPU usage on a gtx 1080 is going to take more.

    I love that CPU!

There’s a weird shift that happens where people state that the GPU or CPU is powerful enough and the other is lacking.

The difference between those two people is usually resolution vs frame rate.

It’s hard to saturate the GPU on a FHD 120hz+ display.

You can’t have enough CPU and RAM speed grunt.

On the flip side 2k and especially 4K can get by with a stock 8 thread i7 (often even less) and get the most out of the GPU much easier.

    That’s the short version.

Yes but the R4 is also thicker. Do you think it will fit in the m15 @pathfindercod

**EDIT** I ordered it, we will see when it gets here. 7 bucks isn't a big deal.

I didn't (mine is back in the box until Christmas), but I lined it up with my 15r3 and it compares in size just like the pictures I've seen online. I think notebookcheck and laptop mag had size comparison pictures. Going back to my 15r3 after testing the m15 for two days was hard. The m15 is considerably smaller and lighter. It's something like 3 pounds lighter. Not that much thinner, but you can see that in the pictures online.

Do you guys have a recommendation on what heatsink and repasting material to use? So that I can order it thru amazon before my unit comes in on dec 5.
Is this a good material, from linustech video?

    Thanks for your answers!

So my rep set me up with ProSupport and I called in yesterday and they are sending me out the parts. I should have mine by Monday night. If anyone is in the market for an M15 shoot me a PM and I can forward you his info. I got one hell of a deal with him that included 4 year warranty ProSupport (includes accidental) for the price of a 2 year plan would normally cost.

If so, I'd also like to order the parts :p

Wanted to add a funny story for all of you here. I had my 180W power brick attached to my surge protector overnight but disconnected it from my laptop. This morning I turned on the m15 with it plugged in and I was greeted with a warning saying "Did not recognize the charger". I fixed it by disconnecting the power brick from the laptop AND power, then reconnecting the power brick to power and then the laptop again, then turned on the laptop without any warning. Just a heads up in case anyone gets this issue.

I am going to Grizzly Conductonaut my M15 if I keep it. It will make me feel better about the thermals and therefore long term ownership.

What are your thoughts on using a small amount of high temp electrical tape around the dies to avoid shorts?

I have several LM application videos on my channel. 33+ electrical tape is fine and if you want an additional barrier you can apply 3 coats of nail hardener to the contact points around the die. Some use conformal coating instead.

ALWAYS have a barrier installed, no questions. I've seen many "Pro" tech-tubers not do this and it drives me nuts.

Here is the 1x8gb that came with my unit if anyone is curious:

    SK Hynix - HMA81GS6CJR8N-VK

After some more playing around with the fan and Throttlestop, I think I can manage the heat up top once the fan controls start working. The "Cool" pre-set seems to like to push the fan only over the CPU to 52% which works, but is fairly audible. Once I can control both fans, I think setting them both to 30% or so on a curve will be good enough to keep the top cool and the fans quiet during typical desktop work / web browsing.

I really wish the software would work right so I can confirm before my return window has closed.

Good application video. Desktop applications are easy. Do the job then install it into a board that will likely never move.

I would recommend a barrier on laptops since they are meant to be mobile.

I like the idea of the tape over nail hardener just because I can make sure I covered everything good (little to no overlap)...

Thank you for your reply, a very informative video! Got your point! I’ll make sure I wont use it in the m15 considering I still haven’t had any experience on repasting and applying that graphite. Plus, I’ve heard that there is a danger of short circuit due to its high conductivity, and if misplaced to another area due to its thinness, it might cause problem. Thanks!

Indeed. If you read through the amazon reviews of this product, which it seems you probably already have, there are many coments about how they slip and slide about all over the place. And the material does not stick to adhesives well either. But you probably can use some of the same masking techniques Bob mentioned earlier to protect nearby components... Just not with this v1 first generation product. Its simply not there yet. But who knows, perhaps in a few years time there will be a 'new and improved' version'.

Does anyone know of any hardware mods we can do other than a re-paste to reduce the temps on the keyboard? the left side seems cool but the middle of the keyboard seems a little too hot for comfort. Or would just re-pasting really reduce those temps as well? I feel like they need a little fan inside the chassis to circulate the hot air in there or something but it's no where as hot as the razerblade 15 thankfully.

Anyone know how to disassemble the bottom panel off? I took out all the screws including the 2 in the back, do I just pass a plastic pry tool through the sides or something?
