Just take a look at the press release. I call that advertising. They claim it's the fastest laptop then state the fastest means its supports 2666. Seems pretty clear to me.

They claim also that the Area-51m was the most upgradeable gaming laptop in the world as well. But you can't really upgrade whatever screen you want (Azor's own statement).
Say they have equipped it with 64GB of DDR4 2666MHz memory doesn't mean the ram running that speed when they did the internal testing.Ashtrix, Darkhan, Rei Fukai and 1 other person like this. -

In either case its misleading customers about the product and its capabilities. This is most likely still illegal. -
illegal or not, nobody stands out. Bear it

I think it's funny the screen thing is still being given excuses. While I can believe there may have been limited uhd options when it first launched, I feel there is no excuse anymore. The Aero 17 is gonna have a uhd screen and few others from what I saw with those nvidia studio laptops. So they're just dragging their feet on that front. Considering the m15 R2 is gonna have a 4k panel before it is kinda sad.
Well Frank Azor I'd say I'll miss ya. . .but my parents raised me to not lie so. . .get out of heeeeere!

Good morning guys, my friend got A51m i7 9700k, with RTX 2070. But in the back of this GPU doesn't have the black heatsink like the 2080's version (image below). I tried to find the dell part number but I don't find any clue. So did anyone know the part number of this part? And is it possible to compatible with 2070? Thanks
(sorry for big picture).

You won't find it anywhere. Dell doesn't sell it, as its sold with the 2080 unfortunately.
I've had two sent to me for my 2070s through a guy I've been in contact with at Alienware though. I was advised that they may not ship, but to my surprise, they did.
I was a guinea pig for this, but I'm in the process of seeing if they can start selling them through their parts department.
I'll update you if/when they are available to buy!Darkhan, phusy, mason2smart and 2 others like this. -

It's still bait and switch. Which is illegal. I bought s system under false pretences it supported the 2666 ram installed in it.
I'm on the latest bios thanks to autoupdate
. No noticeable speed decrease but its definitely not any faster.

I got these from Amazon Dubai and it's pure copper shims.... I will try to experiment with these when my replacement system shows up in 2 weeks time. The size is perfect for the MOSFETS around the CPU and the GPU and underneath the GPU but I need to find a good way to "stick" it to the chips and the heat sink. I've tried to use it with my broken Area 51m but they seem to slip out a bit, I need done kind of grease to hold them in place somehow...
Anyone had any experiences with these copper pads? The ones I have is 1.8mm width..

Thank you so much for your valuable information. Very disappointed when Dell is cutting-off such critical part for 2070. BTW, after checking my friend's machine, the 2070 MOSFET's are weakest NCP-303151. And the inlet MOSFET's on the motherboard are AON-6380 too. Combining all elements above, his machine always turn black screen (but the keyboard LED is shining) after 5 minutes playing game. The only good side is his beast has not yet created smoke

Been a while everyone. No issues with my system since I got it besides a few MSI AB hiccups with locking clockspeeds at 300MHz under load.
System still running 1.5.0 and the first 200w vBIOs.
At this point, I do not think Dell will release any useful BIOS updates and would rather wait for someone else to mod one out.
If this continues, this will be my first and last AW purchase. The MSI GT76 has been a disappointment so far knowing full well it uses Optimus (and the reason why it has no GSync), doesn’t cool as well as expected, and not as portable as the 51m.
Guess I will have to wait a few years to see how the market looks and if we will ever get something that has the performance and freedom of a Clevo and the chassis design as good as the AW.

Well, I finally received my replacement Area 51m 9900k and RTX 2080... Here is to hoping that round 3 goes smoother than the last 2. The laptop arrived with the 1.5.4 Bios and 1.0.0.5 vBios. Not sure quite how I feel about the limiting of the GPU to 74 C.... but, considering I've lost 2 already, it might be wise to leave it that way.

Hmm it's still good but around 10-15% lower compared to old BIOS benchmarks (around 27-28K):

No problem! While it does have weaker MOSFETS, remember these were the same chips they used on the 2080, so they can certainly handle the power of the 2070.
I also had the black screen issue on my first 2070, replacing the DGFF fixed the issue for me. -
Hi bro, I just do as you wish with:
1. Thermal balance
2. Power balance
3. Bios 1.6.2 (latest)
4. vBios 1.0.0.5 (latest)
5. Stock pad (never open)
6. Stock paste (never open)
7. undervolt -125 mV
8. MSI afterburn (leave at stock)
Firestrike with demo: 21207, graphic score: 24135.
I can see during the stress test.
GPU is about 74, 94%, 1820Mhz (never went over 74)
CPU is about 74 too.mason2smart, Darkhan and luciela like this. -

Go to windows sound icon, right-click and click the sound set-up from stereo (2.0) to surround (5.1)
Or go to control panel, click the sound, playback devices, click nVidia HDMI and click configure, choose 5.1 or 7.1 (whatever your set-up is).
I am running 5.1 surround perfectly fine since release to my Onkyo TX-NR838FXi, mason2smart, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
I also had the Razer Blade Pro 17 with 2080-MAX-Q for 2 days. The fans are so high-frequency (also with undervolting, no matter how fast they turn), disgusting. That's why I do not like the Razer at all, not even for web-browsing...
Also bad: surface-temperatures, fingerprints on the surface, keyboard, cpu-temperature (although only 6x 4,0 GHz).
But yes, it has a good mobility (and processing).
Mobility or noise-level (characteristic) - everyone has the choise. For me noise-level (I rarely use headphones, but as I said, I also prefer the keyboard and the lower surface-temperatures of our Area 51m). And a (faster) desktop-cpu is a desktop-cpu.

Well, technically I've only owned 2. But this is round 3. Back in April my first RTX 2080 simply died on me. Dell sent me a new one (deployed to Afghanistan, so it takes about 3 1/2 weeks via mail) and I replaced it myself. Everything was fine for 5 days til the motherboard itself seemingly died. This was April 29th. So, it went out on me twice. Frank Azor was kind enough to force them to simply send me a replacement which, after almost 2 months, I finally received yesterday. So, this is round 3 for me heh.
Yes, you are certainly correct. I must admit, it does kind of suck that you pay $4300 for performance, only to see it limited later.... I guess I will wait to see how others fare before I try going to 1.5.0 and a pre 1.0.0.5 vbios again. Mostly because it takes so damn long to get anything via mail here and I also use the laptop for work. It also doesn't fill me with confidence that Frank Azor left so soon after their newest Alienware flagship, but hopefully that is simply coincidental.
P.S. Glad to see you are still around SacraficeMyGoat. Has your replacement system been treating you well?Alexon likes this. -
After some testing appears 1.6.2 has had it's throttle raised from 75 to 79. 1.5.4 would sever throttle at 75 and 1.6.2 it's 79.
To prevent this on heavy GPU intense games set the thermal limit to 78c instead of 87. You will still have throttle but its slow and won't notice it gaming, at least I did not, but without lowering that when the system hits 79 it dropped to 15fps and gaming is impossible.
This is for those that are ok going to new Bios, I only found one game that I need this for and that's Rage2 it seems to really hit my GPU hard.
But after testing, I have went back to 1.5.0.nkc likes this. -

@S.K @JAGGERBREAD
I did for the 3rd time a full Repad & Repaste, Kryonaut on CPU&GPU (personal tested batch on my desktop computer).
I gained some nice °c on the CPU but I was only able to lower the temps of the GPU after 20mn of 3d Mark 4K Stress Test from 84/85°c to 82°c (I just ran the test right after 1st boot so maybe the paste need some moar time to be fully operative)..
I don't think I'll change anything right now, I did the paper press test, everything was fine, I used 1mm on two mosfets where @S.K wrote you can choose between 1.5mm or 1mm, I double checked everything, I focused twice... I can't go better and I think that's enough for me, I'm very happy with the current state of my computer.
The CPU is very rarely reaching more than 85°c now (considering it's a 9900K not Delidded...).
Considering, once again we're reaching very high temperatures here in the French Alps (first year France reach the sadly 45°c record on summer :/)
Now is the time to enjoy !

Ι run prime95 with avx disabled and max temperature is 88c on the hottest core of the cpu with -0.110 undervolt. If I enable avx it hits 97-98c but the same also happens to my desktop pc which has a corsair h110gtx cooler. So I guess this is normal. I also left heaven benchmark to run for 1 hour and the gpu never passed the 73C degrees (cpu was hovering around 67-72c). So The cpu is at stock with -0.110 undervolt. Are those temps normal for an undervolted stock cpu on the area 51m? I am thinking to delid the cpu. Anyone can suggest a good delid kit? I would like to reach 5ghz on all cores with temperatures around 88-90c max. Is this possible with this machine?
I do very heavy tasks like 3d rendering and I want to make it as fast as possible and stable with acceptable temperatures.
About the conductonaut, I only applied tape and I have done this several times in many laptops, desktops and gpus. My laptop is dead atm and Dell UAE is doing all they can to avoid servicing it... I cannot believe how rude and heartless support here is, the moment they hear my Indian accent, they act as if I'm the service center agent and they are the $4000 paying customers. LOL its hard to have an Indian accent isn't it? Even in online games, I get yelled at a lot. Haha Although I am from the Himalayas and I look more Chinese than I look Indian!
I've got so pissed off with Dell that I'm seriously thinking not returning this old PC when the new one comes(if it does...) and sell all the parts online. Screw the warranty and the system! Anyone wants a brand new 9700K and a 2080 for half the price?
