Well I have to say I am pretty happy with my Area51m and Cyberpunk 2077 Raytracing Ultra and it runs great!
I hear the console people got a raw deal though until they patch that version.

Hey guys, I've been out of the game for a while. Are we still not updating the bios/vbios or are the latest ones ok now?

I ask this because for whatever reason, while playing games, my GPU seems to throttle when hitting 79C. I went into command center and found that I couldn't adjust past 75C, so I did the workaround and I can move the slider up to 87C now, but that hasn't seemed to make a difference. Its been a little over a year since I've done any of the bios/vbios updates, wasn't sure if that could be the problem. Any other suggestions?

Try using Throttlestop and Afterburner to undervolt

Have you undervolted and repasted yet? If that didn't help enough, put on warm clothes and open the window in the winter, or set AC to 17C in the summer.

what's your FPS on those settings? i'm playing with ray tracing and ray tracing reflections turned on, ray tracing lighting on low, and ray tracing shadows off. DLSS on "performance," most graphics settings on high, but shadows low. using my 34in 3440x1440 alienware ultrawide i'm getting 50 to 60fps. i'm pretty happy with that. with ray tracing turned off it shoots to like 85fps, but it looks way too good with ray tracing on not to run it.

I haven't messed with the setting at all, just running it at whatever the setup detected when I installed, I looked at it and saw the preset is Ray Tracing Ultra and looking down the list it looks to be about 50/50 ultra and high for each of the individual settings I think I saw DLSS on performance here as well.
At this point in time I don't worry about framerates, I have not run any benchmarks or even launched Rivatuner in almost a year now.
The only thing that matters to me is that games look and play well and this game is beautiful, honestly I have not experienced any lag of any kind in Cyberpunk 2077 and only the occasional graphics glitch such as small items stuck in the ground and or floating in air and maybe 5-6 of those at most.
I realize the console people might have a mess going on right now, but I am really happy with the game on PC it plays as expected and is really been enjoyable so far.

yea, i don't care about bench marks either. it's just that the closer you get to 30 fps it starts feeling lethargic to me after being used to most games running at much higher frame rates. even on RPG games that don't really need high frame rates at least 60fps and up is really what feels good now a days. that ray tracing ultra preset was smooth, but it was only targeting 30fps and for me and i just couldn't stand it. i'm sure that is where yours is running at as on that setting the default DLSS setting seems to target 30fps which allows for closer to native resolution at high settings. the performance DLSS setting seems to try and target 60fps but that means unless you turn a bit of things like shadows to low it can adjust resolution a bit more and not look as crisp. the sweet spot for me for it to look great and keep that crisp resolution at closer to 60fps was that performance DLSS with some shadows turned down.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot if the new settings I tried don't work.

Have not repasted, but I did just undervolt through Command Center. Things seem to have stabilized a bit now, have a limited test it wasn't pushing past 76C, but I'll give it another try tonight during a longer gaming session. I also just opened up the laptop and removed as much dust as I could and raised the laptop a little off the desk to allow for better airflow.

Now that you mention it though, for the last year and a half I haven't had this problem, but all that gaming was done in my cool basement. I recently moved into some temporary housing and the office I'm in is a bit small and gets quite warm in the late afternoon. I'll open up the doors tonight to let some cool air in!

Alright, happy to report back that I just played an hour of Cyberpunk 2077 and didn't experience any thermal throttling! Things I did:

    1. Dusted all the fans/vents
    2. Raised the laptop up slightly to allow for better airflow
    3. Had a window open to keep the temp in the room down
    4. Undervolted the CPU
    5. Slight OC on the GPU

Played for an hour and never went over 75C! Now sure how much numbers 1-3 affected my results, but glad everything is working now and I can have a smooth gaming experience again.

    Halewafa you running 1.5 Bios?
What under volt did you do to?
    What GPU overclock amount?
What work around did you use for slider?

I was surprised by the dust from raised laptop I had to clean from exterior vents.

    Yes, running 1.5 Bios.
    For CPU (9700k) I went: Frequency 4.6 GHz, 1.1v, and -100mV
For GPU (2080) I went: 0% power limit, 76C Thermal Limit, +100 MHz Core, and +150 MHz Memory

For the workaround I fully uninstalled Command Center ( instructions), then reinstalled it ( link) and manually installed OC Controls ( an older version). After you install OC Controls it's going to ask you to restart, don't do that. Do this first, go to:

    C:\Program Files\Alienware\Alienware Command Center\OCControlService

    1) Right click on the file named Profiles.zip then click on Properties

    2) At the bottom of the Properties page, check the box which says "Read-only", hit Apply, then Ok

    3) Copy this folder onto your desktop

    4) Go ahead and restart

Once you restart and open up Command Center, its going to tell you that there's an updated OC Control, go ahead and update. After its updated, close Command Center, paste the Profiles.zip folder from your desktop back into the C: drive location and overwrite the updated one. Open up Command Center and you should be good.

None of this will work if you don't fully uninstall Command Center and follow those directions. Good luck!

Won't boot off a Macrium Reflect copy of the c drive i have on an external hard drive either....

Does it tell you which drive is FUBAR? Are you in warranty? They can probably overnight you an SSD if your in warranty, but if not just pull out the bad drive and re-install without RAID 0, it's not even going to be noticeable aside from the size loss anyways. I would be shocked if you could "feel" the difference from a normal NVME SSD to RAID 0 SSD's. It's probably not booting off the image because it can't reproduce the RAID, that's my guess anyways.

I still have premium support till February. I opened a support ticket with the qr code link it generated after a hardware scan on my OS recovery usb media now. It doesn't tell me which SSD it is. Just hard drive issue and error code 4337.

Just called Dell support who transferred me to alienware support when they saw i had premium support. They are going to send someone to replace both the raid SSDs. I didn't ask if they could just send the parts for me to fix it. I guess I'll just let them do it for the warranties sake. It's not like the tech could mess up too much just replacing the drives...

Haven't been using my a51m much lately (managed to snag a 3090 and 5800X lol) but decided to tinker today since I'm away from home. Managed to get Cyberpunk running at a decent framerate (60-70) with ultra settings (except for shadow cascading, that's on medium and it bought me a lot of fps) and a couple of Ray tracing settings turned on.

    Still a beastly machine.

Today i recognized that my battery pack blows up so i called Dell and get an replacement on monday. I asked several times, if its possible to run apps and games normal. Dell (technican) said its no problem and there will be no problem running without battery pack. I am a VR programmer and i need good performace for it, so i tried it out, but sometimes the machine shuts down without any message. It happens too if i try to play Fifa or any game. Is that normal? Could someone try this out maybe? Big Thanks for your replies.

EDIT: figured it out. One of the 180W Adapter is not working correctly. Have 2 of each(180 and 330) and the other pair is working fine. Orderd a new one.

I've been playing the PC version since release around 50 hours so far and I have not run into any serious bugs or problems, I am almost ready to start the last quest line ( I think ) but taking it slow and cleaning up all the side missions and secret locations, sure I have seen a few small items floating in air here or there, and cars can be quirky at times but no game breaking issues and graphics are fantastic.

I can't believe the disgusting clusterf#$k pile on that is the Internet these days who are all these self appointed critics and WTF have any of them ever created ? I understand the Console versions may be in bad shape right now but they will be improved with upcoming patches, the Rage Mob has ZERO patience and buckets of slander and absolutely no class.

I hope CD Project Red ignores it all and keeps doing their own thing, this is a thinking man's game and it rewards exploration and problem solving, if you run through it like it's Doom II your not playing it right. I have been constantly surprised by the quality and depth of the stories as well as the world.

If you slow down and pay attention the game really has an underlying Sam Spade Detective story feel to it, and all the bright glitzy eye candy on top of story driven pressure you feel to press on can really suck you into it's world, IMO the key is to resist the urge to rush, so far not much is time dependent really in any way and this game rewards exploration.

Strange - I was watching a streamer on PC and the amount of bugs were embarrasingly bad. I mean the characters hair just randomly disappeared in the mirror, gun sounds happened after fights, and people just phased in and out repeatedly. I don't doubt what you are saying, I am just wondering why so many would report such bad issues if it was uncommon....?

The biggest criticism I have read is its very "on rails" in the story, would you say that?

Guys, i got a problem. My screen would randomly just go very bright for no particular reason, as you can see in the video at the beginning opening up command center.. Disabling the video card turns it back to normal as you can see.. re-enabling the card would turn everything back to bright untill i restart my computer.. is my rtx 2080 broken ?

    thanks

No I don't feel that is "On Rails" at all. I think you can make it SEEM to be on rails by the way you play it. If your a Witcher III player and you know how CDPR laid things out in that game you will take a more measured and slow approach and take time to explore, but if your only interested in the scripted story then your cheating yourself out of half the game and it might feel more "On Rails" to you simply because your doing all the heavy scripted story driven missions on right after the other, I don't think there is any other way to tell a story then scripted missions that will feel guided unless you want to spend 100+ hours reading the story bit by bit lol.

I think this game strikes a great balance like Witcher III did between beautiful story rich scripted ( on rails ) missions and free roam.

It's weird I have not seen any of those glitches at all, as far as "on rails" Only the main story missions are, everything else is not. I have stopped my first playthrough on Corpo with all most all side Gigs and complete and just before the No turning back point, and started a New game Nomad and I have seen some variation in events and conversations, of course I am deliberately selecting different conversation options this time in some places to see what changes.

With over 50 hours in my first playthrough and did not even do very many of the ? spots or even any of the NCPD spots, I could see well over 100+ hours if you focus on side quests for leveling and then do main quests when you get bored with those. But it's hard to get bored yet there are so many secrets and side quests within side quests, I think too many people raced through the main story and cheated themselves out of the entire experiance.

thanks. that worked for downloading and installing it. but now when i run the mobile connect program it it says the driver won't load even though you can see the phones messages and files in their tabs in the app on the PC's screen. a google search showed this to be a common problem, but trying the fix to make it work doesn't work for me. i tried the steps in the fix with the newest driver and the driver the app links you to install and it didn't make a difference.

the "your phone" app windows loads seems to be a better working application. so may just use that instead anyways.

    1) The Alienware Mobile Connect Driver has to be installed as well in addition to the app

    2) You MUST uninstall the built in Your Phone app otherwise the Alienware Mobile Connect won't work. Use CCleaner to uninstall it as you can't simply right click on it and hit uninstall (no uninstall option)

i did end up doing the new windows install without raid after the tech left. that way i can switch one of the drives out for a 2tb nvme ssd soon.

*edit* ended up replacing both 512gb ssd's. cloned the OS to a 1tb Samsung 970 evo plus and put a 2tb Samsung evo plus in the other M.2 bay. i moved one of the 512gb drives to an external thunderbolt/usb M.2 enclosure.

I am searching on the net for a new RTX2080 card. Anybody knows the differencies between these Dell part numbers: YMTMW and V08H9? I found 2080 cards with both of these numbers.

keyboard doesn't work in windows (works perfectly in bios) after playing a game in VR (before that I installed the latest nvidia driver) any ideas?

EDIT: fixed, by redownloading the driver from dell, why this happened remains a mistery

Has there been a bios update outside the 1.5 that allows you to use both g-sync and the higher temp threshold from 1.5?
1.5 was before they added the g-sync screen so it does not support it. It basically makes it flicker every few minutes unless you disable G-sync.

I am not unhappy with my R1 with a 2070, but I am ticked at the fact that zero effort is being put into make any kind of 3000-series options for it. It's the least they could have done, but Dell frankly doesn't care about its customers anymore.

    Hello,

A friend of mine have had this issue for months without any fix. He ended up using an external keyboard. What specific driver did you re-install?
    Thank you!

Yes, the download works, and I could find it on the Dell website too. I'll make sure to give it a try with my friend soon!

If you go back and search I feel like someone on here did do it actually, and IIRC, it worked.
