I was now about to update to the bios version 1.6.2.
And also saw that there was an update for the RTX 2080 VBios. I never have installed that before.
Should I? What does it exactly do with my GPU? -
Could you post the AUO's display information from HWiNFO?
Thanks!

Can someone answer this, did they send me a non gsync monitor?
It shows up as a 144hz monitor. I updated the drivers and even reinstalled windows.Attached Files:

Thank you, I was a bit confused why I didn’t have the option. Now hopefully I can keep this one until the have another device on hand.

vBIOS 1.0.0.5 = 180w an 1.0.0.3 = 200w.
Which system BIOS are you on?
1.5.4 and higher throttles the GPU when reaches 76C
Hmm, are you sure? I have it off on two A51M machines and I have never witnessed Windows update flashing the BIOS.
Latest VBIOS drops the wattage of the GPU down to 180W.
BIOS 1.5.4 and higher puts a thermal throttle on the GPU at around 75C.Last edited by a moderator: Jul 4, 2019 -
At least 2 in the thread couldn’t get it to work... Here is one http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-owners-lounge.826831/page-1306#post-10924917
Dell did also the same trickery on their 15 inch XPS model from last year. Of course after all the reviews was done. Both brands is under Frank Azor’s umbrella.Last edited: Jul 3, 2019 -
You had no issues? They just allowed this without diagnostic?
-
So I yesterday Updated to the latest 1.6.2.
My GPU temps rarely go above 75°C, as I have quite an aggressive undervolt going on, in fact so much, that I only use like 96-98% of my GPU. All this because still being skeptical after having my first machine burned and having to wait 1 month for the replacement laptop. Before my undervolt, it would reach up to 84°C, which made me very uncomfortable, considering the thermal limit of the gpu is 87°C
And I haven't tried installing the vBios. Never bothered. -
So I'm using my montior as my main monitor now and before I was able to use the g sync option in G panel but now it's gone, does anyone have an idea how I can bring it back .

Which pads should I get? -
VoodooChild Notebook Evangelist
2mm thermal grizzly pads seems to the general consensus in this thread. I've opened my laptop multiple times and fiddled around with it since its lying dead here, have done multiple surgeries on it already and I can confirm that you'll need .5mm, 1mm and 2mm pads for different parts of the motherboard, gpu and the m2 heatsinks. As for the brand, I think whatever fits your budget is just fine. I've personally gone for cheaper Arctic pads from Amazon and they come in all sizes.

Thanks! No 3mm pads? I read there’s one or two mosfets that needs 3mm.
-
The 2 mosfets on DGFF that are hiding under the beauty cover need 3mm. See here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-owners-lounge.826831/page-1111#post-10911767
Also, in the first picture, where i've written "1 or 1.5mm", only go with 1.5mm if your thermal pads are REALLY soft and supple. If you are using stiffer pads, I'd highly recommend going with 1mm on that location.Last edited: Jul 4, 2019hmscott likes this. -

As per popular demand, I have created these 2 separate threads:
1: Thermal Pad Upgrade Guide for Alienware Area-51m
2: Bios Downgrade Guide for Alienware Area-51m (or any other alienware)
Purpose of this is to make it easier for the community to locate this information as it is usually lost deep in the thread somewhere and difficult to locate. -

When I run FireStrike 3dmark reports a GPU temp of 87°C (which I found to be really high) but hwinfo and afterburner report 67°C. Is it a bug from 3Dmark ?

Does anyone know any EU store selling those Fujipoly Ultra Extreme XR-m pads? I can only find them in the U.S. and the shipping costs for Greece are too high, more than the actual pads.
Also, I have a problem with a circle audio radar thing overlay in some games, I can't find any option to turn it off. There is no Alienware audio console in the Alienware command centre and Realtek Audio Console says doesn't support this machine. Does anyone know a solution?Last edited: Jul 5, 2019 -
Repasted, Ran all cores at 4.6ghz undervolt to 1.09~1.1v steady at 95 degree, hows my cpu in termy of silicon lottery?
edit: 9900kDreDre likes this. -
Of course it does. That's not a big deal though. There is some flex in the magnesium alloy screen top and screen itself is glued to it and rubs against the bezel trim when you press on it.
-
I'm having a hard time finding good thermal pads that come in up to 2.0mm thinkness.
Any suggestions?
Also, very few brands seem to have 3mm pads at all. Is it ok to stack thermal pads?Last edited: Jul 5, 2019 -
Don't stack them! Not worth it. Panasonic makes both 2mm and 3mm pads. I buy them from DigiKey and have shared links in my posts here multiple times._deadbydawn_ likes this.

hi guys, after a week of non-use I found the battery below 60%, is it normal? last week it was 100%, powershare off

Hi guys, please recommend some good type-c dock with a lot of usb ports, which is a good with area 51m.
Thanks -
Same here. I wish the top was made of magnesium like the main part of the chassis. That would truly make it feel premium!

Perfectly normal with these desktop core v pro series chips.
It is made of magnesium afaik. But it has some flex because magnesium is no steel and that sound is of the screen rubbing against the inner side of the plastic bezel.
This comment made my day!

Glad you enjoyed that.
Reddit is as bad as Facepoot... maybe even worse in some ways, because it's mostly the domain of smart aleck punks with low IQs and no emotional intelligence. At least Facepoot has somewhat of a family atmosphere to it since it's not dominated by socially inept teenagers and immature young adults. But, both of them suck.
Magnesium not a good material to use in a fire-prone system, as it is highly flammable, LOL. But, it's most likely some sort of an aluminum alloy. Magnesium is more expensive to work with, a bit lighter and softer, and would not be as durable as an aluminum alloy. For some strange reason, most people are under an impression that magnesium is superior, but it is not. Aluminum is superior, and that's why they build vehicle bodies and frames using aluminum instead of magnesium.

I have run the Killer uninstaller but I do have a Killer Ethernet and Wireless
Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller,
Killer(R) Wireless-AC 1550 Wireless Network Adapter (9260NGW)
Whereas the drivers for the Wireless are Microsoft, the drivers for the Ethernet are Rivet Networks. I suspect they may be interfering with my game, Has anyone noticed issues with the Killer Ethernet?FXi likes this. -

It's not pure magnesium. Pure magnesium is unusable anywhere except in a science lab. It's an alloy of different other metals with magnesium afaik. It is alright in this form factor as far as strength goes. But if someone wants to get a foot rest and a laptop combined, then this laptop is not going to serve that purpose.Last edited: Jul 6, 2019FXi, Vasudev, etern4l and 1 other person like this.

I left it just 5 years ago for USB drives.
Its almost same as Fb but lot of good posts gets buried under bad posts; Its like finding a needle in a haystack. Especially Linux /r has been helpful but in near future it will go away too. All I see are Win 10 update changelogs and new updates which are popular, of course some memes too.
Doesn't it break compatibility on various BD/DVD/CD players? I always burned at half of advertised rates to ensure its burned correctly and compatible with most devices.
I use Imgburn which is very good for a freeware. -
Older machine (so not 51m) but getting the killer stuff out of all locations but the driver was a pain. They get into a ton of places in the network stack that I don't prefer. I did get it down to driver only on the ethernet but it wasn't easy. Wifi I change to Intel the moment the machine comes in the door. If you aren't too invested in your installed programs a Win 10 "refresh" will reduce things to a nearly cold install level (all programs removed but all files and users left intact) in which case you'd only get base level drivers. But in the world of AW, rebuilding the drivers and programs you DO need, and it sounds like some of them are a bit finicky on the 51m (thanks to Ultramale trying to keep us with up to date file versions) I would give that a good deal of thought (risk vs reward) before jumping down that rabbit hole.
