Check that the fan profile is on Balanced, performance or full speed.

Remove one of the power connectors and plug it back after a few seconds.

    its not my case
we had a long dialogue for two hours and he consulted many times with colleagues. we have found out all the nuances, there is no question of low competence of Mario C. support.

Does anyone who uses this plugged in 99% of the time use a 'custom' battery setting within the BIOS or are most using the AC setting? I just want to make sure I am getting the most from the battery and that I'm not lining it up for failure.

Issue is the laptop was fine when I fresh installed yesterday then after about an hour or so it just does this.. Both power adapters are connected I'll try windows 1809 and see what happens

Have you checked settings in the Nvidia control panel, perhaps something in there set to save power? I believe Alienware/Dell provided a YouTube video providing their optimal settings for performance.

If you are using it plugged in most of the time and you want your battery to last, configure custom settings in BIOS. That's what I did. I set it to start charging when battery is below 25% and stops at 80%

Excellent, thank you I will give this a shot. This doesn't impact performance does it, by the machine thinking it is running on battery at any stage, hope that makes sense.

    ???

It's been documented in this forum many times the later releases of the vBIOS introduces thermal throttling of the GPU at 75C. I think Dell/Alienware introduced this starting in the 1.50 vBIOS (I could be wrong on vBIOS versions, but I do recall vBIOS 1.3.2 was the last documented version that had no such GPU thermal restriction).

vBIOS relates to the power capability (I think) of the GPU. So there has been 180w, 190w and 200w. This is the wattage the GPU can pull/reach.

The BIOS is what implements the thermal limits to the GPU and CPU and in this instance 75c from BIOS 1.5.4 onwards.

I'll take another look I'm on driver 441.08 I think it happened after it went to sleep mode because no updates completed yet when it did the gpu restriction, see the thing is I had a light version of 1809 installed and it was working really well I performed many benchmarks to find stable OC etc on cpu and gpu, but I think something needed to make tobii work wasn't there like a service, so I ended up installing a full 1909 and tobii worked I played bf1 for awhile just fine then when I got cod mw installed I played that after it took awhile to download and my gpu was doing the power thing, at first I thought it was the game itself so I went ahead and installed windows again thinking my install was bad so, I installed a light version of 1909 which is amazing! I played cod and this time gpu was full power working as should it was great, then after an hour of leaving it again and coming back to it.. I saw the power 50w thing again low clocks.. So I'm under the assumption that 1909 is buggy or something.. Not to sure, maybe it's an issue with tobii?

Hi anyone if u experiencing no sound from built in speakers after updating to windows 10 1909? Driver is working fine, no problem for bluetooth audio devices and using cable too. But there's no sound coming out with the built in speakers. I tried u installing/reinstalling drivers (tried different drivers too) but no luck. Tried formatting and still no luck. Will try to revert back to 1903 tomorrow if it will solve the problem.

Honesty they're pretty darn close to the other manufactures in price. And in some cases are actually cheaper. But you have to look close as the competitor that is more expensive will normally have more ram or ssd storage. But, point being is they're ALL overpriced and expensive. Just the way it is these days.

Ironically they're some of the best performers out there. The Blade Pro for example has 100w GPU's instead of 90w or 80w. It's a big enough of a difference that their 2070 Max-q runs as fast and Asus 2080 Max-q on their 17" GX701. And for hundreds of dollars cheaper. But, if you get a bad laptop that needs RMA'd you're pretty screwed. So going with anyone else is advisable.

Well, I have ordered mine. I have got the 2070, the 144Hz screen with G-SYNC, i7-9700K, ram and HDD basic configuration and the 3 years premium support. They say it should be delivered by the 29th, let's hope so...

    A quick aside:

I put a 9900ks in my 51m and I'm thrilled with the results but for reasons some folks might not expect. I've underclocked it a bit and heavily undervolted it to keep power consumption down as far as possible. It can maintain 4.5ghz on all cores in the quiet fan mode, making hardly any noise even when running at 100% CPU utilization. This is about 500mhz faster on all cores compared to the best I was able to do with an undervolted 9900k. For the ~$30 premium I paid over a 9900k, the +500mhz from the binned chip is totally worth it to me in this scenario.

I find it odd that one of the best mobile workstations happens to be an Alienware. It's not perfect, but the compromises it makes are the most acceptable to me.

    Thanks for your concern.
I am hoping that I'll get a little lucky in terms of silicon lottery, so hoping that I can run with a good undervolt.

I guess I'll have to see. But to be honest. The Alienware m15 r2. Isn't my favorite option. It's design is nice, but I prefer metal/aluminum chassis.
But yeah, I'm also getting i7 instead of the i9 (not worth paying 450€ extra), so hope that also helps in regards of thermals.

Well my aw continues to limit the 2080 power limiting 50w crap...this time I installed 1903 paused windows updates, installed the most up to date drivers and after afew restarts its just doing the same old again, could this have something to do with using the latest drivers from Dell? Originally was using a driver page I found on notebook fourm which was from afew months back but I did update the ones that seemed abit older.... I'm near another return with Dell and I really don't Wana do that....

Have you tried the latest Nvidia drivers? I'm not sure what would cause power limitation on the GPU other than some sort of power-saving setting?

    This doesn't sound right.

If you really want to rule out driver issues, download the Dell OS recovery tool and restore with it. There really isn't a lot of bloat when using this recovery method, outside of the typical Windows 10 stuff. You'll need to download the Windows store apps (Alienware Command Center, Alienware pointing devices, etc.) but is otherwise a painless experience.

Definitely the issue man, I literally started them up again, re start laptop, test a game *limit power * stopped both device and boom no limit... I'll stop using tobii for now install windows 1909 again and I'll have doe smooth gaming for once until I figure out why that is happening.

Random questions - Does anyone have one of those little sliders for their A51m webcams? I've bought a few but they don't sit flush. Secondly, does anyone have or know of a power adapter holder/case that keeps the two power adapters enclosed whilst travelling and whilst stationary? Hope the 2nd question makes sense, I have no idea how to properly describe it but know in my head what I'm trying to ask.

Can’t help with the first one. I always just use tape.

If you mean a simple way to keep the two power adapters together then just grab some zip ties. Might wanna put something between the two power adapters like a piece of foam. Or Eurocom has a 780w power adapter the would work for the Area 51m. But it’ll cost around $650.

I'm thinking black electrical tape or something might be the way to go.

Do you thinking that option would be ok? I imagined without a decent gap between them, they'd overheat or something? Yeah, I couldn't justify that just for me being lazy carrying them up and down stairs haha.

Are you referring to the Eurocom single adapter? If so I think this is it below, a bit too pricey for my needs.

    https://eurocom.com/ec/configure(2,404,0)780WACDCAdapter

What I was asking for was some sort of cage or holder that the 2 adapters would sit in to make it easier for storage and transportation. It sounds silly but I can visualise it in my small mind.

EDIT: Maybe something like the below but with extra support holding them together so they can be carried easier.

Any suggestion for a 512GB SSD? The laptop will come with 8GB, can I add two more banks of 8GB each or does it have two memory slots only? Any suggestion for the RAM?

You shouldn't have much trouble with most SSD's, Samsung seems popular, it really depends on how much you want to spend and stuff, but most will be fine.

In terms of memory there are 4 slots so you'll be able to add another 2 DIMMs no problem.

Holy hell, $300 for the unit itself makes sense... But 300 more for some cables and splitter box wtf... For 51m to be compatible. That's crazy op price, I don't care how industry grade Industrial X5 times they said it in the video It is. I'm shocked right now. I'll buy aw backpack and carry both psu ty.

I don’t see it being a problem heat wise. Just put something in between so they aren’t touching one another and I think your good to go.

Well when I opened it up turns out I already had one there. Hmm. Conspiracy! I must be an alienware plant.

This happened to me a couple of times over the span of a day or two. SUPER weird.

The fix I found was to run BIOS diagnostics... when it does the sound diagnostic, you’ll hear a VERY loud beep, and the diagnostics will confirm speakers work. After that, I rebooted, and sound was back!!! LOL WTF?

    Try it!!!

My turn to post a question!

I’ve been running the stock image since the start, upgraded to 1903 and one of the Windows updates disabled/broke VB6 and VB script applications, namely Alienware Mobile Connect, Alienware Pointing Devices, and Alienware Update.

I upgraded to Windows 1909 this Tuesday in hopes that Microsoft would have fixed that, and no... apps are still broken. At one point I got tired of trying to roll back the updates when I was on 1903 and blocking updates and decided to live with it until Microsoft released an update to fix this, but those 3 specific apps (that I assume use VB6/VB script) remain broken, even on 1909.

Is anyone running a stock image like me and experiencing this? If not, how did you fix it?

    Thanks in advance gents!
