Hey I have a AW 18 with 4910mq and 880m SLI and am upgrading to the AW 17 with 6820+1080. I checked notebookcheck.net and am left kinda confused as to the real world upgrade I should expect? I thought the 980M was a significant bump in performance from the 780/880 and offered about 60% increase in performance. The 1080 is outperforming 2 980m in SLI in many instances so I would have assumed two 880m would be beaten by over 100% in benchmarks and gaming fps scores as the 980m SLI is worse than the 1080. Yet my firestrike is arond 9200 and the stock scores I'm seeing from the forums are around 14,200ish. That is not a terribly big difference.
So if 980m SLI is beaten by a single 1080 and I have 880m SLI which is way way worse than the 980m SLI, wouldn't I have been in a HUGE upgrade? I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised when I do my benchmarking and in game testing but am having doubts. What am I missing? Thanks everyone

I think the overall score on that benchmark is let down by the cpu and you should be looking at the graphics scores instead of the overall score.
What is your Firestrike Graphics score? I'm guessing about 11500 ish on 880m sli
980m sli averages 18000
One 1080 should be about 21000 or so.
Seems like a huge jump to me

yes good point, the GPU score is around 11900. I guess I'm just surprised my 880m SLI still holds up as well as it does as this system is over 3 years old right now. Then again I am going from 2 cards to 1. Plus I suppose being faster than 980m SLI is pretty good considering how big of a jump the 980m was to the 880m. This is an even bigger jump. I guess maybe I'm debating if I should be waiting for a good 1080 SLI setup lol.
Performance gain from 880m SLI to 1080?
