Thunderbolt dock

Are there any docks that will power on an R13 without needing to open the lid? It seems like a glaring omission on the AGA.

 

There arent any.

 

I just power on my laptop then close it.

I have sent it in windows power profile that when the system is plugged in then when the lid is closed it does nothing.

 

Yea, I do the same. Was just curious - maybe the next gen AGA will have this functionality.

Its not because of the AGA but the laptop os actually unable to powerup with the lid closed. It can only powerup without the reed switch not being activated by the magnetin the screen lid.

 

To bad AW/Dell hasn’t implemented the same dock port latitudes have. Would be a excellent option.

 

Yea - for a premium laptop this seems to be missing some basic functionality.

 

What is it lacking? YOu ahve all the ports you can need. Only you cannot power the laptop on externally. You cannot do that with pretty much any laptop out there these days.

 

If you notice he is agreeing with my comment about the dell dock port on latitudes, which is a nice feature.

 

Alienware has the AGA port instead. So i dont get the fuzz tbh.

 

Dell docks with e-port allows you to just lock it in and use power button on the doc without having to open and close the lid everytime.

 

They would block the fan in and out takes and have to make sure all alienware laptops follow the same measurements... Thats just not realistic.

 

I just put mine to sleep and then wake it up when I use it. Don't need to open the lid for that.

 

Really wasn’t a comment/wish that I was wanting to debate. Was a statement saying would be nice if they could get it Implimented. How and if they did it I don’t care, would be nice if they some how did. If not, no show stopper and really don’t care.

 

Do you have an AGA hooked up? I don't even have an option to sleep in the start menu, and I seem to recall past threads saying its disabled when the AGA is hooked up.

 

Sleep should be there, hibernate mode is gone though. But in my case the AGA keeps running in sleep mode. So that obnoxious fan stays one. Still need to replace the oem fan and PSU in that hting.

 

Ah, sorry, I don't have an AGA. Didn't know it affects the system's ability to fully go to sleep.

 

Yeah, I noticed that the AGA stays up and powered on. Pretty stupid idea overall.

Honestly, I think they fully expected the AGA to be a hot-swap device (but could never get it implemented properly) and once you turned it off via Fn+F1 it would power down and if you hit Fn+F1 to power it up again it would come up. That would have given them a path to get it to power down in sleep mode and cause it to wake before the computer came up. But alas, it is "stuck" the way it is.

Maybe there will be a new AGA ver 2 or something with future laptops where they will have it all fixed.

I do believe I read where some of the Thunderbolt enclosures work properly and sleep/wake with the laptop just fine.

 

Its the up and down side of the AGA, its nothing more than an pco express 3.0 4X interface which makes it faster and more reliable during use compared to TB3. But pci express isnt hot swappable and i think thats why they couldnt make it work. I suspect they tried as well indeed.
