What are you speeds with this ssd? since mine (512gb version) max at 3270 for read and 2316 for write as my boot drive and I seen others with slightly better speeds so I don't know what is limiting it, would love some help and or experiences.

If you want better Write speed use AHCI mode with Samsung NVMe drivers.Vistar Shook likes this.

Yea I'm in AHCI mode, latest Samsung drivers and updates however I've been told that the spectre/meltdown patches (which I also have up to date) could drop performance a bit so not sure if it could be that.
-
Use Inspectre and disable Spectre update and check it out! I disabled it on my PC.
-
Curious enough I disable it and no difference, disabled meltdown too and still no change in speeds
-
Post screenshots of test results and Hwinfo64 temps for your ssd’s.

Try Resetting the BIOS to defaults and re-check CDM benchmark and ATTO.
-
Unfortunately it didn't make a difference

Anyone got anything to help?
-
Is this the max ssd temp after running benchmarks? I don't think so from an Alienware.
Could you run the bench test 3 times in a row and post ssd temp and test results (screenshoots)? Should be a clean graph.

As expected.
Your ssd throttle down speed due overheating. Most NVMe ssd's from any brand have throttle temp around 70C. Above this and the ssd speed will go down.
This is older gen Samsung NVMe drive - Samsung 950 Pro and clean numbers due lower heat.
-
There were others with 17r4s or 13r4s having full speeds with the same ssd...
-
Not with temps above where the ssd's start throttle the speed. What brand doesn't matter when temp is too high.
-
How can i keep it in check?
-
Use thermal pads, heatsink mods on ssd controller etc. Or buy a thicker notebook who have better internal airflow.Vasudev likes this.
-
already has a thermalpad that i got sent from alienware before so i used that one, looks like it isnt enough
-
Then maybe ask Dell if they can give/sell you their ssd heatsink for use in this laptop model. Most likely you have to pay because you didn't purchase the ssd from them. Or find one who fits inside the chassis on the internet.Vasudev likes this.

i'll try thx, hopefully its because of the temps i cant reach full speedsPapusan likes this.

You will never reach full speed from any ssd's in an notebook from Dell. I have never seen it before. But the results will be much better once the temp being better. Good luck.Vistar Shook and Vasudev like this.

Hah if I reached full speeds in an XPS I would hope it's possible in an alienware. Copying 500GB wasn't ever an issue for me.toughasnails and katalin_2003 like this. -
What NVMe ss’s you had? Several ways to measure the speed. I talk about vs. what the ssd should perform on paper.

In the 9570 I used:
960 Evo, 960 Pro, SX8200, and the stock XG5. Temps were never an issue when running back to back SSD benchmarks (CDM, AS SSD, PC Mark 8 storage bench).
My 9560s and 9550s also did well with a variety of SSDs.
Then again the XPS has an aluminum back panel to sink to.Last edited: Feb 14, 2019toughasnails, Vasudev and katalin_2003 like this. -
Some thermal pads and a laptop cooler will help. Also keeping the PCH temps down will further help temps.

@THE-HL
I have 970 PRO 1 TB and it also does not run full advertised speed in ATTO, but it does in CrystalMark.
I always thought how is it possible that 512 and 1TB run the same speed, but your post made me search and I see that this is not the case.
I think they (Samsung) always/naturally take the highest benchmark result, which is e.g. CrystalDisk.
I also have Toshiba XG5 512, and after 14 months of heavy use my speeds went really bad. After I secure erased the drive with PartedMagic, my speeds are back to advertised for 512.
Also, with 970 PRO, on arrival it was getting to 70C only installing Windows updates. I connected it with thermal pad to my laptop's back-plate and now whatever ATTO or CRYSTAL load I do, it never exceeds 70C (throttling temperature).
Here is a good 512 review for PRO.
