I'm looking for a good set of over the ear (as in doesn't touch the ear but around it) headphones. No need for a mic, although I might use it now and then I have no urge to talk to ppl besides when I place with friends and I already have a headset for that. I'll mainly be for music and videos.

Sorry if I got the terminology wrong as I'm no big enthusiast for headphones

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for providing info on what your needs are. One question though: where will you be using these headphones?

The $35 JVC HARX700 get you alot of headphone for the money. There are mods out there to further enhance their sound quality, in case you feel the need to tweak them up.

I'm hesitant to recommend more expensive headphones before I know what setting they'll be used in.

It'll just be used in my home office. Won't be taking them with me for travel or anything.

I currently use a set of Sennheiser PC-151s which are alright, so I'm looking for something more comfortable that won't press on my ears so much and I barely ever use the mic so if I can save money on the mic and use that to better sound I'm all up for that.

Building on peli kan's suggestion, I have the JVC HA-RX900, essentially a higher-end model of the RX700 he recommended. They're excellent for $55, and extremely comfortable.

My new Maxell DH-II destroys every < $200 headphone I've ever owned.

It's absolutely the one to buy under $50.

+1 for either the Sennheiser HD555's by Akari (which sound great without modding), the Audio Technica ATH-M50's from Trottel, or the ATH-A700's by anodize.

I have owned several Sennheiser and Audio Technica products, and can safely say that they make fantastic products in the $100 price range that sound great without the need for a headphone amp.

I do but not many I want to bother about buying electronics I don't "really" need. Working on some stuff though. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I've got a good range of headphones to look for now.

What under $200 headphones have you ever owned? I've read that it competes with headphones above its price point, but in no way "destroys" them.

Not ATH-A700 (closed back), the ATH AD700 (open backed) instead. If isolation isn't a factor, the AD are sonically far, far superior.

I agree with your Senn and AT sentiment (though AT closed back cans are more flash than substance). They have great products at prices that make sense.
