I just purchased a new Sager NP8130, and want to hear your recommendations for keyboards/mice/cases/whatever accessories you think are important or that you use a lot. I've got $100 to spend, and am open to any suggestions, what would you spend it on?

I should add I already have a printer, speakers, and headphones. Thank you.

A wireless mouse would be a good start. Check out the Logitech Anywhere MX or the G700 for gaming. If you prefer wired, check out the Razer Deathadder or Logitech G500/G9x

If not, spend it on quality headphones/headset.

Both of those are really nice, but I'd be spending half my budget+ on just a mouse, do you think they would be good enough to justify the cost? I'm really working with limited funds here haha, pretty much broke the bank on the notebook purchase itself.

A nice mouse to compliment your nice new notebook. Try them out in store and see what you like.

Do it once, do it right. Dont buy something that youll end up replacing again later on with a better one.

Yeah thats probably true, I suppose I will be using it a lot :p I'll test drive or whatever the term is for testing out mice tomorrow. What other suggestions does anyone have?

It makes little sense to get a keyboard imo. Very little. If you have the essentials (speaker, printer), then the only satellite accessory worth getting for a laptop is a mice.

External monitors for one "work" destination, maybe. But if you add a keyboard to that... then you really should've just got a desktop.

I would spend the 100$ budget on a good mouse. That is probably the only accessory needed. I recommend Razer Naga.

I would split the budget between a good mouse and a good headset. My vote goes to the Razer DeathAdder and Plantronics GameCom 377, which will leave you some money.

It depends on how good his current headset is.

I would probably go for a Naga/DA and spend the rest on a good mousepad.

I would invest in an external HDD, and create an image ASAP.

I would go for a good mouse like the G500/DeathAdder (whichever suits your hand more) and a good mousepad (eg. Razer Goliathus)

The back-forward buttons alone make it worth it. IMO the mouse is extremely important and you generally spend a huge % of time using it!

Id either get another HDD if you got the caddy or a Cyborg RAT 3 or 5.

I see no need for a chill pad with that machine.

I've used an eXactMat for about two years with no damage to any of the mice I've used on it, and a Vespula for traveling with my Orochi, also in great shape. I recently started using an extra-large Goliathus Speed edition. Seems like the Megasoma is the exception rather than the rule, at least based on my experiences.

That is correct, but I would be cautious when buying a Razer mousepad that is new to the market and lack reviews. If they made a mistake once, they can do it again.

There are surely many good Razer mousepads, but there are rotten ones too like the Megasoma. Its hard to determine if a model is good or bad if it is newly launched. The Megasoma failure made me more suspicious of new razer products than other brands.

Alright, so I'm thinking of spending:

    ~$50 on a mouse
~$20 on a sleeve/case thing for transportation (have to toss in backpack and bring to class occasionally want a layer of protection from thin backpack)
~$20 Cable Lock (living in an on-campus apartment with five other people, have parties and want to deter thieves)
    ~$10 mouse pad

How does that sound? Would that ($60) be enough for a decent mouse/mousepad combo?

I think that sounds good. If needed you can even ditch the mousepad if something happens to go over the budget. I would recommend getting a good mousepad though, but never on the expense of the mouse itself.

Alright, cool, that sounds good to me. Whats the best wireless mouse I can get with $50? Once again, I'd rather have solid construction and maybe 4 or 5 buttons total rather than a dedicated gaming mouse with 60,000 clickable things. I really like a lot of the logitech mice I've been seeing lately, and have my eye on the Anywhere MX, I know its pushing it but is there anyway I could get the Performance MX or G700 for <$50 through coupons or dented box?

Cool, that is actually perfect. How cushioned are they? Is the build quality good? Do you feel like it would adequately protect against minor bumps and scratches? I mean for four bucks you really cant go wrong, but still :p

They are cushioned fairly well & should be that extra protection you need. Now, the ones I have are the red/black case/sleeve, and the black/blue/red case. I wouldn't put the one with the case handle into my messenger/back pack..I would just use the sleeve. :)

And, yes for $4 you can't go wrong with these.

Great! I am fairly certain it will work well for you, and the color will blend well with most backpacks! : ) Post back once you receive it and have used it for a few days as to how it is working out for you?
