Hey I just bought my first laptop, a Gateway8510GZ on a deal at bestbuy for $1200 and couldnt be happier. I bought it as a dtr, and need to get a mouse.

I would like to get a wireless optical mouse, that is FULL SIZE, with a mini-reciever... ie one that can fold in so I dont have a USB sticking out the side when I do use it on the go.

I have huge hands so these mini-mice do nothing for me. Im sorry to be posting this, but Ive been looking everywhere, and all I can find are mini-mice and full size mice with the big recieving station that are meant for desktops.

    Thank you!

Well, you just said it. Notebook mice are supposed to be portable. So "mini-mice" are protable and can stick their recievers into the mice itself, whereas non-portable mice are big, and have receiving stations. I am not saying that it is impossible, but it is really going to be hard to find one that fits you.

You could get a usb bluetooth thingy and a bluetooth mouse.

Haha, that makes sense. Assuming your notebook has built in bluetooth, you can get full-sized mouses without the bluetooth reciver.

Is there no company which sells a full size bluetooth mouse without a receiver and, would be really ideal, can load the battery through USB?

And, of course, works through USB when the battery is empty. (But I think manufacturers just don`t get it and will continue to manufacture too small mices with unconveniently battery systems).

    Guus,

Did you have a read of my review on the Logitech MX1000 Laser mouse?
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=24833
It might not be suitable for you as has a base station but coriolis said you can use a USB mini reciver with it as well. as long as its a logitech one i guess.

Logitech G7. I believe that it tucks the receiver into its own body for convenient transportation. Not to mention that it's a much better mouse than the MX1000 which had some problems (although it was a breakthrough mouse in its own right).

Thx for the advise Xplodin, but ..

My notebook has build in bluetooth so offcourse I would like to use that, and I don`t want to pay for a mouse with receiver (a good mouse is already pricey). Does anyone know if Logitech mices work with non-Logitech bluetooth?

Furthermore, I would like a mouse without a base station, so I can charge it anywhere I like without having to carry the base station. I think there is no mouse which charges by USB, so I have to go for one on AA-batteries.

And there is yet another thing. I like the extra functions you get from high-end mices, but ... I now use the cheapest wired Logitech mouse, but when I installed the software which comes with it, it disables the Alps Pointing Device software which came with my notebook. That I surely don`t like, so I removed the software from Logitech. With a high-end mouse like the MX1000 it would be a pity not to be able to use the extra functions. Any idea how to solve this?

I don't know if this will help but it's just what I decided mouse-wise

I was looking for a cordless mouse for my shiny, newly purchased laptop. I considered the microsoft cordless optical mouse. It had the benefit of the stowable reciever but the lack of back and forward buttons put me off.

I liked the shape of the intellimouse explorer and had a look at the wireless ones, but the inclusion of the wired reciever made it kind of pointless.

I looked at logitech mice but they didn't do much for me in the design department, and had already really decided on the intellimouse explorer shape. Logitech do seem to have the better mice though, technically speaking.

In the end i stumped for the bluetooth intellimouse as it is a nice, comfortable design and the bluetooth reciever adds bluetooth connectivity to my laptop. It also doesn't take up much room in my laptop bag. One annoying thing however, is the fact that microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, forgot to include a power switch, so you have to remove the batteries to switch it off. This doesn't affect me greatly as I don't transport it that often, but it's something to keep in mind.

Anyway, hope this helps a little. Happy hunting!

I am surprise nobody has mentioned this. I recently picked up the Kensington Pilot Mouse. It is full size, bluetooth, no docking station, no bluetooth thingy for those with internal BT.

It is pretty nice and simple. The only problem is that I cannot figure out how to customize the darn thing.
