I'm looking at monoprice.com thanks to many recommendations made by people, but I'm not sure which HDMI cable is appropriate for my TVs.

I was going to replace my Monster HDMI (broken) cable with another Monster, but I read that Monster is all marketing.

But is Monoprice really good like many are saying?

I have a Sony 52" HDTV and Samsung 46" HDTV.

I'm reading about the new HDMI 1.4. Are those compatible as well as the color HDMI cable version?

What about 22AWG? 24AWG?.. 28AWG? Which one do I need to get?

My TVs are about 1-2 years old.

I'm looking to get two HDMI cables.. one for TV-Cable Box (3 ft) and the other for TV-Laptop (6 ft+) for watching movies via laptop.

    Thanks!

I followed a HDMI 1.4 URL link and found this, it doesn't say HDMI 1.4 anywhere, but it looks like this is HDMI 1.4 reading its features.

So is this compatible with my TV and laptop? Looking to pick up 3-4 cables as extra.. Thanks!

Yeah if your TV & Laptop use HDMI that will work fine.

I use a cheaper one that was like $0.49 off Meritline for my laptop and it works fine :D Id be more prone to go for "premium" like you linked when running longer lengths of cable.

Make sure that 3ft is long enough for you. You don't want to order a cable then realize its too short once you test it out.

    Then don't buy it.

The 1.3 will be compatible with 90% of your content, but if you want the most advanced capability that will allow you ultimate 3D and audio quality then specify the 1.4.

The only catch is you need to have a high quality compatible system to realize the full potential.

    Stop spouting nonsense.

The cables are all the same. The interface chip and version changes between the connected devices to support 1.4 or 1.3 or whatever, but the cable itself is the same if it's high-speed certified (which the Monoprice cables are).

I frequently quote information I get from a variety of sources and websites including this one to others. However, I also check other reference for accuracy before I do. If any of that information is said to be incorrect, I can always refer them to those sources.

In the case of HDMI, I have referenced information from many sites (including the wiki one), and I used the standard HDMI 1.4 in the same way it was used in those articles.

I admit there is a lot of confusion about the changes, but that is in limitation of the terminology and how it is stated. Not in what is necessary to make it work.

Any HDMI cable will work as long as its not too long. I don't think they design/build HDMI cables long enough for the cable length to become a problem anyway so...

The thing about digital signal transfer is that it either gets there or it doesn't. There are some mechanical considerations to take into account like cable management if you run reams of the stuff out the back of your gear. If you don't do that then any cable will do. If you do have miles of cable run then it helps to have them colour coded or made of that memory stuff so they hold their shape. Also to have metal jackets so they don't break easily when you step on them or flex them alot. How much you want to spend on that depends on how likely you are to deal with dud cables.

If you have patchbays of digital audio/video gear and a long signal chain, one dud cable can be a complete *nightmare* to find and replace.
