I don't print 100+ pages a day but I mainly use the printer to print many of the lecture PowerPoint presentation for my university works. After I realize how much I used to spend on an inkjet ink, I believe that it's time to move to a cheaper laser printer option.

I'm used to printing papers in black and white (don't need colors). I don't need all-in-one function (e.g. scanner, fax)

What are some good budget laser printer, somewhere between under $100 ~ $150?

Wireless option is not a must, but I would like to have this feature because of the complex dormitory structure. My dorm has wireless connection. I like the compact design, but not a must.

I'm not sure which brands are good for manufacturing laser printer.. HP, Brother, Samsung, Epson?

I figure HP would be good for ink replacements and such, in the future?

That is actually non-wireless version. I got fooled by that too :)

    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-ML-25...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1313174758&sr=1-1

ML-2525W is the wireless equivalent of ML-2525. They have non-wireless ML-2525 on sale for $49.99 at OfficeMax.

I do not have a router at my dormitory (my dorm is wireless), so I would think that wireless version would work better.

If I had to go between HP or Samsung, I like Samsung printers more because of its compactness, but does Samsung make good printer? I've not heard much about Samsung and their printers until recently.

I have 3 HP inkjet printers, so I know what I'm going to get with HP if I decided to get an HP laser printer.

Is Brother not as good as HP or Samsung?

I have a Brother HL2140, hooked up usb to my Asus RT-N16 router. Can print wirelessly from any computer

printer itself was a refurb from staples for $30. Add in 4x$20 3rd party toner(2800 page each), it turns out to be $100 for 10,000 pages... roughly 1 cent a page

too bad HL2140 and HL2170W (wireless version of 2140) refurbs are out of stock at staples.com.

    Yeah I did, also

Brother is a reputable company. Have you considered looking at any Epson's? I have a Epson Artisan 810 All-In-One. It's ink jet though, but I use the printer nearly every day and those cartridges last a long time.

Epson does not make a laser anymore AFIK

Brother and Samsung both make excellent printers. for home and small ofice. Samsung and Ricoh make great larger lasers for bigger setups

Hmm nice to know. : )

I think I would still go with HP or Samsung, IMHO.

I've been using the Samsung ML-2525W for a few years now and it is great. It's wireless, prints quickly, and I haven't had to change the toner yet. With my last few HP inkjets I was changing the ink constantly.

Do I need a router in order to use wireless function? I asked on NBR the other day and I was told 'no', but it seems like after watching some reviews from YouTube, I would need a router?

I personally got hooked on Brother after watching some reviews. I noticed Brother HL-2270DW went down as low as high $70s, so I think that would make a good deal: HL-2270DW deals, sales and discounts on dealspl.us!

If not, Samsung ML-2525L sounds good (saw deals going low as $64). I just like Brother/Samsung's compact design over HP.

HP laser printer seem rather big and non-compact.

^^That Samsung you want was around $65 in last several days..Now it's back up to the $80+ mark, I would keep checking to see if it drops back or unless you find it elsewhere..But, if you do have it at around $64 and want it go for it! : )

How is this laser printer? This one is not wireless, but seems like a pretty good deal. Seems like one of the cheapest deal available.

Brother HL 2240 Monochrome Laser Printer by Office Depot

    Anyone experience this model?

They're also giving away this labeler for free worth $20 (not that I need this.. :\), but I guess I could try to sell this away for extra money.
    http://www.amazon.com/Brother-PT-70...5CAU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313336506&sr=8-1

Well, they also have HL-2270DW (Wireless model) on sale for $99.99...

The difference between HL-2240 ($59.99) vs. HL-2270DW ($99.99) is that HL-2270DW prints 3 more ppm, supports two-side printing, wireless b/g, 24mb more memory, 0.6 lbs heavier.

Do you think it's worth a downgrade? Not sure if I'm going to use two-side printing. If anything, I can just flip back the page.. 3 ppm - doesn't affect me whole lot. Memory - well.. probably not. I'm not on time limit printing my documents.

    Lighter the better.. yes!

Only thing is wireless printing function.... is this that worth it?

Wireless printing is worth it if you are sharing the printer among many computers and do not have a computer that would be a convenient print host, but useless if you're going to be using it with only one computer anyway. My printer at home (with no wireless printing) is always hooked up to a computer that is nearly always on and connected to the home network, so it was a simple matter adding the connected printer as well.

The low-end Brother printers have relatively cheap toner cartridges, so it's a good choice for a cheap general-purpose laser printer. HP and Epson tends to have more expensive cartridges in my experience, but they do make very nice printers.

Well, I went to Office Depot and purchased Brother HL-2240 laser printer. They didn't have the free labeler, but they said they will call me once they have one in stock.
