Which silicon glue is good for electronics? I know my CPU had black silicon glue when I delidded it but just want to make sure I am buying something that is good for such electronics.
this is the one I found on Amazon, is it ok for the CPU? I wanna stick the IHS back for when I sell my CPU:

You can ask Silicon Lottery what they use...
Hey, aren't they doing the delid? That means they will do the CLU and reattach/glue the can for you.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

good idea, thanks for thinking outside the boxhmscott likes this. -
What you do need to consider, since you are installing the CPU yourself, right?, is what do you need to cover with silicon goop to protect exposed components from getting flickings of CLU.
Little CLU globs / specs can come off of the brush as you are brushing the CPU and Heatsink.
Which is why people suggest brushing CLU on the parts while off the computer.
Well away from any part of the laptop that could get shorted out by those CLU dingle-berries, those globular electrically conductive demon's of disaster.
Silicon Lottery should have a suggestion for that protective silicon goop, and/or tape, as well.Last edited: Mar 10, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
What about thermal adhesive compound? Something like the two part Arctic Silver adhesive.

eRRR.. If i remember correctly, they seal the IHS back on. Or is this for a different CPU ?

this is for my current CPU that I delidded myself. I didn't seal the IHS on -
@Phoenix > if SL.com responds to you re: what they use, I hope to see your followup here. I clicked your link to the black RTV sealant which on 1st glance appears satisfactory until I saw the fine print: it says it is general purpose indoor/outdoor rated @ 450F; my understanding (having watched some utube vid last year) was that a black RTV sealant was ok so long as it was for automotive applications, like as gasket material for use in an engine, where we might expect the engine to reach extremely hot temps. IDK the exact Permatex product specified, however their Ultra-Black is rated at 500F & their high-temp RTV Silicone is rated at 650F. I might prefer an automotive-type RTV for this job *shrug*

yeah it doesn't sound so simple purchasing glue for CPUs.
I emailed Silicon Lottery today, I'll let you know what they say. -

funny, I was just reading an article by this guy der8auer, who - although young - is far from being just a punk kid; he knows a thing or two about this, authored an article on ocguide: The Truth about CPU Soldering > I wish he'd name the black goop, or offered a preferential temp-rating. The vid I watched last year called for high-temp black engine goop (= Anyway, this is the same guy that invented the delid die mate

Do you even need it? I know the lid will be loose, but once clamped down, it should be fine.

I don't need it personally, once the lid is clamped it sticks fine. The reason I wanna glue it back on is to sell that old CPU -
