Hi, so in preparation for my buying a 17" laptop I'm off on my search to find a suitable messenger bag.

I have no idea which ones are good though. I'd like something stylish, and money isn't an issue at this point. I don't want a backpack since I find them to be clunky and clumsy a lot of the time, and the messenger bag is allowed to be stylish as well.

I was looking at one called the "Knomo Friction" or some such and it looked pretty nifty, but I was wondering what you guys could recommend?

    Thanks.

    hello Cristo,
if money is not a problem, I would deffinitly go with the Booq Vyper Exo Xl.
IMO, it's durable, can be used as a wallet or a messenger bag, is not too heavy and have plenty of room for other stuff than your laptop.
I'm myself on the market for one, tought I think I would wait till I can find it under 150$ since I already have another Booq backpack and this one is not realy a need.

If you want a more casual look, I guess you could look at Crumble bag, less expensive and still prety good quality,

    Good luck,
    Olivier

Ahhh excellent, looks pretty nifty. Although perhaps a bit too business minded, considering I'll be at Uni whilst I use this. But definitely something to look into.

Are you sure you want a messenger bag?  All that weight on just one shoulder? I have a backpack for my 17 incher and it gets pretty heavy on 2 shoulders.

I won't be carrying it around too much, and it looks better.

You have to suffer to look good ;)

    Cristo,

If money is no object, get a Tom Bihn Super Ego with an absolute strap and brain cell 2XL. The bag can fit as much as an airline carry on, but with the absolute strap I usually carry 15 pounds of stuff without too much strain. The brain cell offers some of the best protection I have ever seen & you can remove it & use the messenger bag alone if you want to not carry your laptop.

Hmmm. The Super Ego seems to be slightly better value for money, since for $230 you can get the bag + brain cell + absolute shoulder strap. But the Booq seems like it's somewhat more attractive. Tough call.

You cannot go wrong with Tom Bihn neither, they produce good quality bag.
Tought I would say Vyper XL >> Super Ego since it got a solide shell and can be used as a casual briefcase,It look perfectly match with most wear even when it get more dressy(business casual).

The OP is using the bag for school and not for work. Booq Vyper Exo XL also advertises "laptop" more than the Tom Bihn does. Which sometime is not a good thing especially in a university environment. That is unless you can keep an eye on the bag at all times.
