    Dude, they're not coming. That was someone just saying things.
    We're going to see 640GB laptop drives before we see 750GB ones.
    a 750GB laptop drive would mean the platters are 375GB each. We don't even have 320GB single platter drives yet so we are far off (far off = like 6 months in the tech world) from a 750GB laptop hard drive.

    Right now, it's already possible to produce 640GB HDDs. Desktop hdd already have 500GB 3.5" platters so they can definetly cram 300~GB on 2.5" platter.

    The market is just not ready to adopt highier capacity drives thus they're no produced.

    Area = pi * r^2

    (pi * (2.5/2)^2)/(pi * (3.5/2)^2) == 0.51

    Just FYI, but laptop disc drives have about half the surface area as desktop drives....so you MIGHT see 1TB laptop hard drives once 2TB desktop drives become more mainstream.

    well, laptop disks also have less platters in height possible, so no, i don't think 1tb will be coming.

    yeah 750gb was just a rumour, sorry for writing it wrong.

    i guess by the end of the year, ssd's surpass notebook hdds in storage size. they could even now, but as you can't pay them anyways :)

    edit: and when you have the choise to buy which ever hdd you want for free, why didn't you get the most expensive ssd you could find? :) (and then sell it for tons of cheap ssd's and hdd's :))

    500GB*0.5= 250GB/platter

    You can fit 3 platters to existing 9.5mm 2.5"hdd, so
    250*3=750GB laptop hdd.

    But like someone else said earlier, 640GB HDD will appear before 750GB.

    NVM, i was under the impression that Hitachi 5k500 had 3 platter design and still fitted inside a 9.5mm case.
