I'm looking at getting a new speaker setup when I purchase my new notebook. I currently have a 2.0 Altec Lansing setup but I feel I could do with adding a dedicated sub-woofer and going for something that is over 30 RMS output. Any recommendations as to some good manufacturers or even models?

Yeah, I would appreciate good bass in my music. Any recommended Logitech setups then?

What's your budget? For around the $100 USD mark, the Logitech Z-2300 are a good option, especially if you love bass. For a more balanced sound, you may want to look at the Klipsch ProMedia series.

For budget 2.1 speakers, I find the Logitech X-230 to be excellent value for money.

The x-230 are far from the best for 2.1 speakers. For purely computers you can look at klipsch, creative, jbl, altec lansing, and logitech. Those are the most available ones, when you done with those, look at the price and decide how much you want to spend.

I have a Cyber Acoustics CA-3000 2.1 Computer Speakers. I brought it for $10. Pretty good sound quality, but not as good as my desktop speaker. But its very portable.

I personally didn't want to spend a bundle on my speakers since I use headphones in conjuction for certain things. So I went out and bought the X-230s expecting mediocre performance. These things blew me away. If you hav e the extra cash, I would invest in the Z-2300s but the X-230s are the best buy for the money.

Just a heads up.... On ebay I have found Z-2300s for 50ish and the Klipsch Promedia 2.1s for as low as 35ish. All sets are Brand new just sold by wholesalers or shops with overstock. I would go for the klipsch personally, better all around. More mid range for the money.

Picked up the X-230 last night and I'm very chuffed with the sound. So far I've tried it with my mp3 player which gave reasonable sound quality even though it is a pretty old device. The seperation of different levels and tones was very clear which I wasn't expecting. Now where the speakers really seemed to excel was with video-gaming. I hooked them up to my Wii and gave The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess a whirl. The sound quality was SUCH an improvement! I actually can't think how I put up with the poor quality audio I had before.

    Thanks for all the recommendations!
