I need a 2.5" enclosure, but I need it with a power button. I found tons of enclosures, cheap and expensive but none that seems to have a power button. I need the power button cause I am not so keen on having devices that suck up quite some power doing so on start up. I have heard of many frying their main board that way!![V]

    ANYONE KNOW OF ANY???

    Thanx

I use the IOGear 2.5 inch enclosure. Took my 60gb (7200) from another laptop and turned it into dedicated storage. COmes with USB (2.0) and FireWIre (400) connections...and a power switch. They are also producing new models for 1.8 inch drives.

    Thanx for the tip.
I checked IOGEAR's website and was skimming thru the manual. From what I understand the USB ONLY enclosure doesn't connect to a second USB port to draw extra power nor does it have an external power source like many other enclosures. Right?
Did you ever try to run on USB without external power (I noticed the USB/Firewire version, which is what you have, comes with external power adapter)?
I guess I should just go with the firewire version!

I have tried just USB only and no go. It would be great if I could find an enclosure that could do that as I hate carrying around extra adapters.

well i guess the usb only version will do that. I don't care if i connect thru either usb or firewire.
my only concern was that if my laptop isn't on the move i don't want to worry each time to d/c the drive after i am done work.
and yes the extra power is bit annoying when on the move!
maybe its just that firewire cannot provide enough juice!
