    Hello,

My old 120Hz gaming monitor gave up the ghost, and I'm looking for a replacement. My use cases for this are competitive online gaming and coding.

I've so far shoristed the most obvious choices from the gaming perspective: BenQ Zowie XL2540 and XL2546 - probably best pro gaming monitors, however, they are TN therefore less than ideal for anything other than CSGO etc.

Any sensible IPS options? I've read that many IPS 240Hz displays suffer from issues.

    Many thanks in advance.

Among 27-inch displays: LG 27GN750, Asus TUF VG279QM, Viewsonic Elite XG270, Acer Nitro XV273

Among 25-inch or smaller: Alienware AW2521HF, MSI MAG251RX

Note that with pretty much all these options, to hit a 1ms response time, you'll need to crank the overdrive setting to maximum, which usually results in lots of inverse ghosting.

    Great suggestions, thanks&reps.

Asus TUF VG279QM - fantastic, almost exactly what I'm looking for although 27 inch is a bit of an overkill for FHD. There is a 25 inch veriion, however, it doesn't seem to be available in the UK at a reasonable price at the moment. Arrgh!

Acer Nitro - very similar, but poor availability here.

LG 27GN750 - not bad, but seems slower than the TUF above and availability looks lacking. Ditto Viewsonic Elite XG270.

Alienware AW2521HF - strong contender, would prefer 25 inch, but a bit lacking in features and performance vs the TUF at virtually the same price.

MSI MAG251RX - looks good on paper, but not too many reviews, and no availability to speak of.

Will keep poking around, but it's between the Zowie 2540 and the TUF VG279QM now.

I ended up pulling the trigger on the Alienware AW2521HF. Faster than the Zowie 2540 on paper, better image quality and as an all rounder, and the only 24-25" IPS option available at the moment, 27" is too much for FHD. The 25 inch TUF has more features but it's not available, and lacks the awesome soft OSD of the Alienware. We'll see how it goes, thanks @saturnotaku !

Outstanding monitor. The stand is a bit weird though, it brings the monitor forward quite a bit.. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

Nice information, I was wondering this too. I dont like TN, and fast response time is always welcome. I have found with response time you actually want half of what the technical refresh rate is in MS, so a 240hz panel should have no more then 2ms, and 4ms for a 120hz panel. Its nice to see IPS being in the 1ms range since it was never there before.

Ya I think 27 inch is to large for just 1080p. about 24 inch is probably as large as I would want.

To be fair, to get that 1ms, you need to enable max overdrive, which produces noticeable artefacts around high contrast areas such as edges. Still deciding if 2ms or 1ms with artefacts is better for CSGO. There is a bit of artifacting in 2ms mode, but barely noticeable. 4ms is artefact-free.

Also for completeness, the Dark stabiliser function produces dark artefacts around edges. This kind of enhances contrast, but takes some time getting used to. Not really necessary given how bright the display is. Dell Display Manager is the killer feature for sure - automatic profile switching on per app/game basis... awesome.

I would go with 2ms then. Your not going to notice any ghosting difference regardless unless the refresh rate somehow doubles, and its well below the ratio I mentioned.

1ms refresh does feel a bit more responsive. Remember it's GtG, and other correlated transition times are longer. The Extreme overdrive mode has its place.
