    Hi,

My laptop charger (Acer Aspire 5720) has broken. Are the cheap replacements on eBay reliable or a waste of money?

The original one is 65W, however until the replacement arrives the only one I can bowwow is 45W.

Can I use this without the battery in (to stop it charging it and therefore reduce power consumption) or is 45W not enough to power it at all?

    Thanks!

The cheap replacements can work, and sometimes well, but it depends on what kind of charging circuit your machine has. I don't think Acer does like HP and Dell do, where they look for their branded chargers, so you should be ok.

If the voltages match, the 45W should just charge a bit slower than the 65W. I would refrain from running anything heavy though, as it may be more load than the adapter can handle and it will drain the battery as well.

I would recommend to stay with OEM adapters even if you can get the same wattage. One just never knows the quality behind the products, and I have myself too many bad experiences with 3rd party to even consider getting anything else but OEM

    cheers ...
