That's right. the optical media isn't dead. In fact, its coming back with a vengeance. Streaming may be the new kid on the block, but it can't hold a candle to the audio and video quality of the new OD. Expect the new 4k standard disks to be out by Christmas 2015

I think optical media will be here for a long time. It's so cheap to manufacture and such high capacity. For movies, I much prefer optical disks to streaming especially if you have a quality home theater setup. Until internet bandwidth becomes nearly unlimited with no caps, optical media is here to stay.

Is this even a question? Of course 4K Blu-ray is better than streaming. Even DVD is better than streaming IMO.

    The question is rhetorical.

Streamed HD content is not very high quality.

I've had a blu-ray xl player for more than a year. So my biggest question is will a firmware update make it compatible to the new standard when it arrives, or would I have to buy a completely new player altogether? Guess that answers still up in the air?

At least we can all be content in the fact that our current collection of discs are backward compatible, and will still be playable.
