I'm thinking your options would be to get a 5.1 receiver for the speakers and use some audio out to the receiver, or get a usb sound card for the m17x and attach rca jacks to one end of the speaker wire so you can connect them to the card..

Probably your best option anyways! You'll get better sound and you'll be able to hook up more devices in a home theater type setup if you choose

From the looks of them I don't think external sound cards would work

I'd get a USB to SPDIF adapter (USB to RCA jack) and then connect the RCA jack to the coaxial digital input of the home theater. The RCA jack is orange. You may run into sound card issues but nothing that cannot be fixed. The sound source needs to have 6 diff. audio channels of course.

If those speakers are not "self" amplified, you will get a very low volume output. You need an amplifier or receiver with build in amplifier (that connects to the sound card on the computer).

You don't need an adapter, just use your HDMI (which carries 5.1) out to your receiver.

if you can send audio out over hdmi, a nice receiver with hdmi input and 5.1 output would be a high quality solution.

I don't have a receiver with HDMI input
But I might just set these up in the media room and buy some computer speakers also has anyone ever seen speakers where the bass uses the front left and right inputs and has outputs to the smaller speakers as I can not find a receiver that uses that set up so the bass is really used any thoughts?

I'm sorry but I don't understand? Start from the beginning and trace the steps of what you want.
