I'm wanting to upgrade my 2.1 speakers for 5.1 as i jut got an external sound card but all the speakers I can find have wires and my room is an odd shape and would mean having wires running all over my floor which I don't want. Wondering if there are any 5.1 speakers that don't have wires running back to the sub? So i don't have to have wires running along my floor?

If you just clicked my google link, then you'd see that very first 3 hits are for Wireless 5.1 speaker systems  ...

Just in case (if you see something different than what I see....):
1st and 2nd links : Creative Labs GigaWorks G550W ProGamer THX-Certified 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Wireless Rear Speakers
    3rd link : Logitech Z5450 5.1 Speakers

Both have wireless rear speakers (which is usually the biggest problem, for front speaks wires are not usually a problem)

EDIT : More googling relieved these universal adapters. If i spend more time, I'm sure I can dig up several more....

Do you really want to spend $300 on a set of speakers ? If you devote some time and effort and try to run the cables along the walls I think you can work something out for less than half that price (with same or better audio quality)… Besides, if your main concern is music, then why 5.1 ? You might also want to consider a pair of high quality headphones; I've seen few 5.1 headphones, but not sure how they sound.

well i also watch movies on my laptop and thought the 5.1 would give me the best sound for doing that and would also help with the music. I think i might just try and run cables along floor then.

It's possible to only have certain speakers running. However, if you set up your room for a 5.1 system, there's no reason to not use the other speakers. If you aren't an audiophile, then the G51 will probably do fine.

Well i'm thinking if i just have the speakers running on the left and right and then when i want to listening to music or watch a movie place others out so the wires only on floor when doing that not all the time.

That's not very practical. There are easy ways to hide wires.

Those speakers have some good reviews. Therefore I wouldn't worry about sound quality. Amazon has it for $130, which I think is a pretty good price.

I haven't done it, but I don't see any reason why not. You can control the front and rear balance either from your sound card or from the speaker control pod; therefore if you push it all the way to front, it will be like 2.1.

yes it is possible to use 2 and all of them when you want to. I actually own it and you can select between a gaming preset, music pre-set and also a stereo (front 2 only) preset.. all from the control pad.

How do you find the length of the cords, are they a reasonable length?

If I’m not mistaken it uses standard RCA type connectors for satellite speakers, which means you can always buy additional extension cables if the supplied cables are too short. They are very cheap and can be found on any shop selling electronics.

Hate to butt in randomly here, but I thought 2.1 was the best for music?
