I'm looking for a cheap enclosure (I really just need the SATA-USB board and not the enclosure itself) that works with a 5.25 desktop optical drive that will run it off USB power. A 2.5" enclosure didnt seem to do the job, wasnt getting enough power.

Its more or less a desktop question, but I figure people here would probably would like to use an old optical drive on their notebooks as well, and using AC adapters just suck :p

The problem I have,is that I got a motherboard with 2 SATA ports and 3 drives (SSD/HDD combo being the other 2),and I want to hook up the DVD drive to a USB header, since the SSD/HDD are more important when it comes to speed.

I'm pretty sure that a desktop drive will not run off of 5v... you're going to need a AC adapter I think.

If you had an external laptop drive you can run it off of the 5v USB power, however I have found that these drives even need an additional power source if you are going to do any writing.
