    Hey!
I wish to buy a gaming headset and here's the characteristics that i'm looking for:

Price: 50-80$ pretty much the money left and maybe a bit more if especially good.
Sound: Surround just for the realism and will be especially good when the Occulus Rift is released I guess. Noise cancelling would be cool but isn't particularly needed.
Microphone: If it's detachable or retractable it would be good as I also use my headset to listen to music during commute. If not, well, too bad, I'll look like a fool I don't care. If it doesn't record unwanted noise (like the sound coming out from the speakers) that would be great.
Extras: Comfortable to the ears. No cheap foam, even the cushions of my Elektra are a bit uncomfortable after a while.

I know that at this range of price it will be difficult to content me and I'm ready to postpone buying a headset until I'm ready to spend a bit more money.
    And thank you in advance!

I would recommend the Logitech G930. Its a tad higher than your range at 100 from Amazon. I purchased it about 6 mo ago and could not be happier. Surround is awesome, performance is awesome battery life is great for a wireless. All of the negatives I read before purchasing were pretty much easily fixed on my end. Hopefully that doesn't change in the long run.

Do you prefer wired or wireless or does it not matter?

    Thanks for your answer!
I think I prefer wired as I'm not a fan of having to take battery life in consideration. But how is the wireless in this Logitech? Is it AA batteries, a rechargeable battery and a charger, hybrid usb charge/wireless?

The Corsair does look good but it's still a bit out of my budget.

You might be able to get it for less elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend the 930, but I would say get the 1500.

Yeah, wireless gaming headsets sound too good to be true. The reality is that the majority (if not all) have problems, and they're always major problems such as signal disruption or poor battery life. If you're a serious gamer, you should just live with going wired. However, I have heard that the Astro A50 is one of the best wireless gaming headsets money can get you, but I'm sure it also has its own problems. Plus, it has one hell of a price.

Amazon.com: ASTRO Gaming A50 Wireless Headset: Video Games

Corsair's wired headset is a nice choice.

Logitech has some decent wired choices for gaming as an alternative to their G930.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
This ASTRO looks so cool but will definitely blow my budget to infinity and beyond, digging out a hole the size of a comet in my bank account while finishing me with machete blows :p.
As for the Logitechs the G430 is super cheap! Seems too good to be true. Can a surround really be found at this range of price? I certainly hope so!
As for the G35 it does seem better and I like the on-ear buttons yet I don't think that the difference of price is worth it in my case.
I will think about this when I actually order my laptop (probably Monday or Tuesday, fingers crossed) so as to make a grouped purchase, in the meantime if you find other deals, especially with retractable, unpluggable mics, let me know!

No problem! I'm glad you have some options now. The G430 and G35 are both great options, but it really comes down to how handy the on-ear buttons will end up being for you. And yeah the G430 is a relatively fair deal. If you want to cross off the G35, it's either gotta be the G430 or the Corsair 1500!

g wireless...audio quality is supposedly slightly less but no coord is a god send and i second the g930. I just with the boom was removable. Also I can comfirm the g930 does cover 100% of your ears with no contact. That is my biggest requirement. But there is one con...the stupid things are really loose. I have a smaller head compared to other people but if i lean back they slide right off :/

I just bought Logitech's G430 for about $65 off Amazon (I had a similar budget). The other headset I was looking at was the Plantronics GameCom 780 but it was a little more expensive.

I did quite a bit of research into the whole "virtual surround sound" and from my experience (roughly 20 hours of Red Orchestra 2), it's pretty great. Definitely a huge step up from my previous head phones which was a $30 Skullcandy pair. To be honest, the second I spawned into my first game wearing the G430, the surround sound was a little overwhelming. I was hearing all these different sounds from different locations now, and I had to adjust my playstyle accordingly. But after a few minutes I was totally immersed.

When the surround sound is turned off, the sound quality is identical to my $30 Skullcandy headphones, which is what I expected. I only use my G430 for gaming, and only for games with incredible sound production. When I'm just fooling around in World of Warcraft, watching Youtube or listening to music, I prefer to just use my Skullcandy headphones or my 2.1 speakers.

Comfort was a bit issue for me and from what I read, the G430s were deemed as one of the most comfortable headsets for that price range. This is partially true. While they fit over my ears very well and breathe easily, the material of the ear pads is a little strange. It kind of reminds me of that mesh webbing found inside men's swimsuits. The first day of wearing it, it was slightly uncomfortable as it was very rough around my ears. But after the week that I've been using it (along with a little bodily grease/skin oil) they're getting to the point where I can wear them for hours without comfort issues. So basically, the more you wear them and the more dirty they get, the smoother the material becomes (kinda gross, but it's true ^^).

Mic is not detachable but it does fold upwards. It's supposed to be noise-cancelling, and from what I can tell and have been told in-game, people have no problem understanding me (even when I'm speaking quietly).

Since the material of the ear pads are mesh-like and breathe easily, they also don't keep out 100% of ambient noise. But I sometimes find myself wearing them while studying to keep out light-moderate background noise.

Build quality is also a little iffy. The weakest parts of the headsets are the joints which connect the headband to the left and right ear pads. The pads are designed to swivel so you can hang the headset on your neck and the pads will lie flat on your chest, but I avoid putting any extra stress on these joints because they can easily snap if you handle them aggressively. I'm generally very careful with all my gadgets and gizmos, but I feel like I have to be particularly careful with the headset.

It seems like comfort is a big deal breaker for you (as it should be), so it's difficult recommending this headset wholeheartedly because it takes time for the "roughness" of the mesh-like material to become smooth. I'm sure there are other headsets in your price range which have a material similar to synthetic leather that will probably be more comfortable from day 1, but in my experience, the leather makes your ears very warm.

But I really love my G430s and I'm very happy with my purchase. Someone advised me to put 90% of my budget into a good pair of headphones and just buy a $5 clip on mic as it would be just as good as the mic on a gaming headset, and while his idea makes complete sense, I opted out of it. I wanted "gamer" gear and I got it :D

It's good to hear that you like the headset for the most part! Yeah, after I read some of the extreme faults that wireless headsets bring gamers in general, I opted to wired headphones and just told myself to deal with it until a decent wireless pair came out. This is a good headset to get, and also the Corsair one. Although, I'm not sure which one to pick.

i wouldnt fall for the surround advertisement on the headphone. its mainly marketing gimmick to justify a higher price. razer surround is free and it creates a virtual surround sound. razer surround also works with any headphone, even speakers if u really want to.

    Hey!
Well thank you for all your suggestions and sorry for the lack of responses I had some issues IRL. I decided to not go for a headset yet and wait until I'm able to put a bit more (instead I'm investing a bit more on my computer so I can get a 770M ahah).
    See ya!
