    Hi,

I have a DELL Latitude D600, 6 years old, to the month. And I am using a secondary battery since then in the media bay. I guess it is a LiPoly type.

All battery tools show me a wear level of 1% which is highly unlikely. I haven't done any measurements on how long the battery really lasts, but it feels shorter than new, but it is hard to tell, since my primary battery is pretty degraded.

Has anybody any explanations for the strange readings? Any way to fix it? Show the true state?

All I can say that is 6 years is quite old. How long does your battery-time?

today I tested with WLAN, screen at full brightness and watching a video i got to around 55min (which is too little)

what i noticed was that after 36min i got an estimated 75% reading, so that total would be around 2:24 which compares to the reading after a few minutes (2:20)

but when I reached around 45, and each following minute, the percentage drecreased very fast all the way to 10... and soon after it failed completely.

    are there any fixes?

You can try calibrating the battery (drain the whole thing and then charge it) to get a more accurate reading of how long the battery will last, but you can not make it last as long as it used to.

Your only option is to purchase a new battery if you need longer battery life.

I had the same problem with my HP. I did not find any soultion for this, but anyways my ThinkPad does my HP's job today.
Calibrationg did not help for me, but again, it is worth a try carlaron :)

my problem is not how long it lasts.... it is enough.

but calibrating does not work. when I drain it to 7 % my laptop just shuts of (as if not enough energy)
but afterwards it still shows a wear level of 1 %

perhaps set your laptops to hibernate at 10% and 30% respectively.

its just my secondary battery, so there is no problem. to go to standby/hibernate at 5%, i just want the readings to be accurate. They show 7 but only last for about 4-5.

It's a MIRACLE battery :D ....I think the feature of the battery that reports the wear to the various battery tools is disfunctioning.Probably there is nothing you can do.Even after 15 years it will show 1% wear...Either that or it's atrue miracle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

well, it still lasts between 50..75min depending on usage, so that is quite ok after 6 years. but it isn't great...

so lets hope for a miriacle ;-)

If you're into calibrating again, leave it on running the BIOS on battery until it shuts off, that way you don't get anything controlling the turn off point besides the battery itself.

Dell received additional information relating to the company's 2006 recall of Sony batteries, expanding the number of potentially affected units by approximately 18,000 worldwide. All affected part identification numbers have been added to this website's database. Dell asks customers with affected models to check their batteries, even if they previously checked their battery as part of the original recall.

    well,

Lithium Ion batteries have a controller, that shuts them off to avoid deep discharge as that will break the battery, so I don't feel to goot pushing it too many times...

about affected batteries: it is a LiPoly battery, so it shouldn't be affected, or am I wrong?

I just wanted to find out, what is wrong with this battery.

does anybody else have a mediabay battery for Dell Latitude D series and can report their behaviour?
